This is interesting and the price is right! Less than $3 CDN and the manual’s updated.

  • I like it. The option to zoom in/out on the piano roll to select note range is clever.

  • Nice to know someone's having fun with it :) Here's my current favorite :D

Cool! Good to see you got this out before Easter. :)

Will be playing with this tomorrow! Cheers.

  • ...and thanks to Apple, they really got their app review team sorted nowadays.

@SevenSystems Really glad with the drumpad update! But to be sure, will this work with external midi drumpads also?

  • @charleso that probably depends on how those send their MIDI messages. If you find out, why not drop a short note (no pun intended) here. :)

Finally picked up the full package and IAPs and am looking forward to using it. Great work.

  • How much is the new Polyhymnia IAP?

OMG! Thanks. Need to get this finally, and I better be quick about it. B)

  • Bought it and the IAP. Pretty excited to finally try this one. I have followed its rapid development since it was released, read all discussions and fanfare, and even interacted a bit with the awesome creator of this beauty.

The addition of a Generative module is unexpected, but very interesting for me. I really like generative/algorithmic composing methods. Looking forward to exploring this new one.

I have a Boppad. When tapping double, overlapping notes, it will send note on messages with each tap, but it only sends a note off message on the last release of the finger. So in a sense, it doesn’t ‘slice’ the notes (no note off message woth each new tap, overlapping or not).

I think it’s the same thing that happens with overlapping notes on the onscreen drumpads in xequence, so the question is whether your app will do the same ‘slicing’ thing for incoming, external midi messages.

  • Somebody could compare it to Oscilab?

Oscillab is only one note (no chord if i remember well). Here you can have 5 notes (chords) And control pitch ,lenght, distance And velocity. You can shuffle And randomize all or detail each part.It would be great to have an auto generate different melody after each Loop.

I didn’t even realise these IAP’s were available. Just got the Polyhymnia thingy. How about Unlimited Tracks, is that really worth a tenner? Just checked out the developer website, and we get just 4 tracks as basic. Bit stingy, but I suppose enough to work out whether we’d use more.

Or, you just get it - to be on the sure side and also support the developer :)

    >

I’m sure you mean well, but not everyone has your disposable income for endless purchases.

Also, regardless of how brilliant any developer is, the app has to be of use to me personally. With this one, I already bought the main app because it looks so interesting - supporting the developer. Now I need to actually use it enough to discover if more than four tracks is worth more to me than the next Brambos creation. :)

I just again checked the code and I've implemented and tested this for both MIDI Input and the on-screen keyboard. It's probably easiest you just try it with your Boppad and give feedback :)

I think he setup the app and IAPs as a try before you buy, but charges a $5 entry fee as well. The IAPs are functional, but the purchase unlocks a save or midi out type of thing so it is fully functional. I guess 4 tracks is to see if you love it enough for unlimited tracks, if not you can still use 4 tracks forever and pipe it to a DAW or a synth setup in AUM.

I actually like the way he set the IAPs up. I too was shocked at the $10 price of unlimited tracks when this first came out, but I see that it is actually a good system for the buyer and the dev. I have a strong feeling I will get the unlimited tracks option before too long. The IAP system in this app just shows that this dev is tying to improve and innovate, not just pump out more of the same in the same old way.

I will surely test it out, but when I have acces to the boppad tonight. And thanks again for implementing this. Just for other interested readers, this makes xequence be the only traditional (linear) sequencer app that can record the boppad on ios!

Only, just a dream, but if xequence would became audio unit it would fill a really big hole in the audio unit landscape. A dedicated linear sequencer is really missing for auv3 AUM users...

  • @SevenSystems is there a way to limit the scale of the pitch bend wheel? I’d like it to send only +/- 1 semitone to model d but I don’t see how to do it.

Also: Y axis cc expression is so great

  • edited March 2018

@charleso thanks... let us know if it works as intended. If not, it'll be fixed ;)

Concerning AU MIDI: This is unfortunately not very likely... what's definitely more likely though is support for AU synth hosting inside Xequence. But no definite time line yet...

You mean, on the keyboard screen while playing live? Not completely... what you CAN do is set the slider to 0, then set it to Gate Mode (button above the slider, the "Pulse" icon), and then you can switch between zero (or whatever position it was in when you activated Gate Mode) and another value by tapping anywhere on the slider.

Also: Y axis cc expression is so great

Good to hear people using it :)

  • I’m doing xequence->Midiflow ‘local’ connection->GarageBand->Model D AU, using the xequence play surface as a controller, and it’s great because GarageBand on iPhone does not offer a mod wheel, and here xequence y-axis provides a mod wheel as aftertouch.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing that workflow/workaround. B)
