I get this all the time, what with me being from down south..and the rest of my family being northerners

Countless times I've heard...its baff not baarrrf....paff not parrff

I get this too, from Mrs Zen. :) I maintain that the finest exponent of English is generally thought to be Shakespeare. A man from the Midlands, who knew there was no R in bath. ;)

First exposed to the word when I heard the Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor as a young boy....

Pretty cool - although the fugue section is a bit glossed over.....

It makes sense to us ‘mericans, for whatever that’s worth.

You do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard.... for the rest of the world to understand. ;)

Just to be fair, here’s a few British English examples that befuddle others.

Befuddled no more. Just takes a little education. :)

  • Anyways in the OP's video, this isn't how you pronounce it in french.

  • These differences can be disastrous. Inches and centimeters and their misappropriation spelled disaster for a Mars rover. We tried to switch to metric in the US. I remember looking at my foot and thinking that seemed about right, but the parking meter was too long and the vu meter too erratic. Just us lovable, dumb Americans sittin' around eatin' stuff.

  • I think it’s pronounced ‘a-b-a-n-d-o-n-e-d’.

    ;)
