Medley gets audio clip import

Medley just got an update iap to allow audio clips to be imported.

The nice thing about it is that you can drag and drop them straight into the grid from the files app in side by side view. This means that all those little clips you have exported from Groovebox and blox wav to AudioShare can easily be arranged into a timeline. Or in lopmode in medley can be played like launchpad.

Tell me, Bianca, what’s the deal with music made using Medley, these days. Is what users do their own, or copyright to Medley?

  • I must have missed something somewhere, I wasn’t aware that it had ever been an issue.

Anything you make in Medly is yours, we (Medly) make no claims to it, even if you use the loops and samples in Master and Starter in your song, you own the full copyright to your song.

What you don’t own the copyright to is instrument sounds, loops and samples (individually). Essentially, you can’t repackage our packs/individual items and sell them as your own.

    Hope that helps :)

It does indeed, thanks for the clarification. :)

  • Hmm. The way you describe it is tempting

  • i intresting. can you do volume fades on the tracks?

  • are there any other audi sequencers similar to this for iphone ?

Not really. Not with such a smooth timeline and loop set up. Multitrack Daw would be the closest

  • Am I to understand based on the tempo and key selector for import that it also does key change / time stretching like blocs Wave???

Medly does work on both iPhone and iPad :)
And yes, you can add fades using our Automation graph (and cool FX too)

    Yes!

It would be nice if there were an option to loop the audio preview in the import window

Thanks for this update @baldajan

    Yes!

Although the key change is off by default - you can turn it on by entering the audio section and enabling “Match Key” in the settings menu. Also there’s a small bug right now where the key change won’t take effect until you exit the section - we’ll get that fixed soon.

Dang. That’s impressive, I am going to need to give this another closer look.... what kind of sample length limitations are there?

I mean key match and stretching is enough to make me jump ship from another similar app >_> cause that kind of flexibility is pretty impressive especially since I’m a heavy, heavy blocs Wave / Groovebox user

30 seconds to be opened and will be trimmed to a max of 16 bars when imported.

I hate to admit it, but our tech and UI wasn’t designed for very long (or arbitrary) audio clip lengths. So we decided to push this initially now, and if people are using Audio Import and are demanding and chanting “we want arbitrary length clips”, we’ll definitely revisit and see what we can do :)

  • Can you export stems from Medly?

There’s no built-in stem export right now, but you if you mute or solo tracks when exporting that will be reflected in the export. So you can solo individual tracks and export them one at a time.

  • How much is the audio import feature?

It's included as part of the Master Collection for $10 USD, which also includes 30 instruments and 600+ audio and (editable) note loops.

Thanks Stem export would be a nice add.

  • We always want EVERYTHING and we always want it NOW

But in the meantime 16 bars and 30 seconds is perfect;y adequate for use in Medley

16 bars / 30 seconds is three times as much awesome as what I’m accustomed to now ;)

I know what I’m looking into again very shortly

Let me know how that goes. I could use something simple to potentially do some linear sequencing of stuff I record into Blocs Wave. Also interested in how Medleys fx and mixing stuff might compliment that
