Alchemy update

  • No, the bundle won't automatically include new sound libs (it's not a subscription) and I don't think we're planning to update the bundle when new sound libs are released.

Most likely is that in (say) a years time we would release a new bundle that includes new sound banks released since today.

  • @mgmg4871 thanks, I'll do some more testing.

@ZenPunkHippy I launch Alchemy in Auria, BM2, Cubasis & Tabletop.

The same results every time with every host, fails to launch first time from with the host.

When I try to launch it again from within the host after the error message it launches no problem.

Same results every time with all 4 hosts on ipad air / 4 and iPhone 5 (BM2).

  • When audiobus stops working its time to worry!

  • @ZenPunkHippy Here's another bug: When launching Alchemy inside Cubasis, every of the eight sliders is labeled as "Control". If I launch Alchemy before I launch Cubasis, the sliders are labeled correctly.

  • Yeah I noticed that today. Will look in to what's going on there, pretty sure it was working OK during beta testing.

  • Any improvement on the glitching/popping issue? One of the Devs commented here previously that a future update would fix that problem.

  • The freeze bug that occurred sometimes is fixed in this update.

The glitch when changing tracks is not fixed - that will be in the next update or the one after that.

There is also a problem if you try to record a midi part using Alchemy keyboard, when you start recording from IAA bar in Alchemy and play your notes on Alchemy keyboard there is no midi recorded parts in Cubasis.
Any one else having this problem.
Also I thought that the Developers would have addressed the stupid red bar to the top of Alchemy in this update.
Midi mapping for transport Play and Record

  • Yes, though it's not alone. Addictive and Magellan don't usually record either. Nave no problem. And no problem from Cubasis

  • My cousin just bought an iPad mini and was wondering if Alchemy Mobile can import the desktop Alchemy sound packs? Or does he have to buy the in-app packs specifically?

I know the app description says it can import sounds/presets from the desktop version, but I recall reading somewhere that this doesn't always really work. Maybe that info was mistaken. I just want to clear it up for him. He's never used any iOS music apps before and he's pretty excited at the idea of being able to sketch out ideas and import them into his desktop workflow. Thanks, guys.

  • If you own Alchemy desktop sound libraries, yes it is possible to use them directly in the iOS version if you have the Pro upgrade. It's done via iTunes share folder + the Add custom sounds option on the app sound library menu. Not all presets will work but 90% of them should.

  • @JuniorPops - to record MIDI from the keyboard in to an app like Cubasis you need to enable MIDI out on the Settings menu (Pro only feature, tho).

  • edited November 2013

@Ian you are correct Magellan has the same problem, the only app that seems to be able to record the midi from playing within the app is Nave, that's something that needs to be fixed, most problems I am having though is with Alchemy and iMini with connecting and freezing .

  • I updated Alchemy Mobile today and can no longer open Alchemy within Audiobus. Alchemy shows as an input but once I try to launch it after choosing it it just remains grayed out in my input slot.

  • Oh, I should add that I am using the 6.1.3 operating system still.

  • edited November 2013

@Tritonman Same here on iOS 7.0.4. Sometimes, the input slot is not only greyed out, it is completely empty after selecting Alchemy (means: the app icon of Alchemy will not be displayed).

  • AudioBus switching is a known bug, we're working on it. The workaround is to double-tap the home button and switch manually. Sorry this got through - it was working in the beta build, something went wrong in the final build.

  • Anyone having Alchemy starting up in portrait mode? The icons are trying to fit onto the portrate screen but when you rotate to landscape some icons are missing. Ios 7.04 on iphone5

  • @nu2morra that happened first launch after the update but its fine now...

  • Still doing it! and having problems getting it to receive midi from BM2.
Try again tomorrow when less stressed.

  • Is there any chance for a midi learn for the trigger pads? That would be great!

  • I can only get Alchemy to receive midi from BM2, when it's set to "any" in the settings page. Done the same check on other apps and they work when set to receive from BM2. Are any of you noticing the same?

  • @Munibeast - the drum pads respond to MIDI notes, so you can play them like a regular keyboard. The range is C1 - D#2 (Cubasis keyboard).

  • @Nu2moro - I will have to investigate the MIDI out problem. I don't have BM2, does the problem occur with other apps that allow MIDI recording?

  • ZenPunkHippy
It's the midi in that's the problem when alchemy is set to receive from BM2.
When other apps are set to receive midi from BM2 they are ok

  • Ok, thanks for the clarification. I will investigate.

  • @ZenPunkHippy Thanks for reading our posts here and for your fast responses to our problems. Alchemy Mobile is already my favorite synth app. But I would be extremely happy if stability became a higher priority than new features.

  • Stability is always a priority. It's quite difficult keeping track of bugs, especially on iOS, because most users don't email us about 'em.

With desktop plugins it's different because users purchase directly from our website, and know who to contact for help.

For reference, you can always email support [at] camelaudio [dot] com if you find a problem. The more info you can provide (steps to reproduce, iOS device type, iOS version number) the easier it is for us to track problems down and fix.

Thanks ZenPunkHippy, I know the pads respond to external keyboards. What I mean is I would like to tap on "learn" and assign the pads to the notes that happen to come out of the controller. Then I wouldn't have to remap the controller on the PC first... It would be so easy.
