I do believe it was a bit wrong to be critical of the guy for promoting his business (other than him posting the thread in General, not Marketplace, but oh well). In this case, there should be more leniency. For my objections, it’s all to do with the content of that original post. I assume that’s 98% of what we’re on about.
Fair enough. I’ve flagged things to the moderator in the past as well. I think the last time was when someone ridiculed another forum member’s transgender avatar. It’s pretty subjective but we seem to work it out in the end
I was responding to this bit:
“I can understand why the guy got defensive Tbh, some of the comments are just plain rude, insulting and way too personal”
“Yeah, I’m with you @Oblique. Sometimes I find this forum a little prone to over-reaction.”
Which I thought sounded like you were also criticising the strong reaction to the work. I personally think if you’re going to create works with controversial themes and show them off in public, then you should expect and be able to defend a proportionate response.
But anyway, whether it’s to do with content, or selling of wares, I think the tone of this thread has in many ways been set by the OP. Gruesome, and a bit bloody.
That might’ve been me who thought he was just goofing around and didn’t realise he crossed a line. Now that you admitted to it, now I know who to give hell to.

(Just bullshittin ya mate. And yes, I did apologise and rescinded the other replies by editing them to appear blank.)
Okay, that there was far more clever than my Twilight references.

Surely, members of AB Forum - a music forum - telling other members about their work and gaining feedback, is part of what being here is about.
No one has to part with a penny if they are interested in listening to what RTM do, as is the case with EVERYONE on BandCamp. If someone chooses to buy a track or an album, great. But there is no hard sell. In fact, we have no expectation of making money from our stuff. It’s primarily about making interesting music, learning from others here, and helping out when we can.
The things we do with true commercial intent, which in the case of two RTM members, is artwork based, never gets close to this forum!
.
@jwmmakerofmusic I don’t think it was you so wasnt having a sly dig or anything. My point was just that these things can be subjective.
I wouldn’t consider it a sly dig anyhow. I was joshing about.
Long Sunday, because my headphones broke and had to get replacements, so was bored while waiting for my shared ride.
I agree that the post was kind of misplaced under 'general' as it was a clear merch offer.
But I fail to see the offensive part.
Such (cover) artwork isn't unusual since the days of HR Giger. Infected Mushroom (an electronic act) used several works from David Ho (I'm The Supervisor, Vicous Delicious).
Maybe that influenced the choice of a forum with a somewhat similiar musical orientation.
Such artwork is intentionally disturbing, but imho there are more disturbing events in news/everyday life than these abstract visualizations.
An album cover is a highly important part in marketing - the visuals are the (only) trigger to catch attention.
Some choose cute, others choose disturbing images.

Other options are available.
I repeat, these images were not initially hidden behind a spoiler tag nor was any warning in place, and the thread title was pretty inviting since a lot of us, even those of us who do professional-level art, wouldn’t mind hiring someone to make a professional album cover or at least to see what kind of talent the person has. “What’s so offensive about the art?” Maybe it’s, oh I don’t really know, due to the fact many people would interpret the initial art to be sexist, misogynistic, fetishistic, violent, gory, gut-wrenching, disturbing, and just plain disgusting! There’s absolutely nothing abstract about the art.
“There are more disturbing events in news/everyday life.” Right, which is why we come to this forum to get away from that shit for a while.
@Ego_Likeness
The "witches" book looks amazing.

Is that all your creation?
Dig it.
the abstract part is what happens in the viewer's mind...
The first 3 'offending' works may as well be interpreted quite opposite to the attributes you applied.
Jwmmakerofmusic~you are my Hero! On a week were my faith in “man-kind” was sorely tested, you reminded me that there still exist real, true gentlemen and decent guys out there, yes, I mean you! You have my utmost respect with the posts that you have made on this topic. I could not agree with you more. I thank you for your words in defense of women, kind Sir! Bravo!
Actually, the third one is of a woman with goats, and despite her being nude, it’s not really offensive (although perhaps objectifying?). The other art he posted (the traditionally painted “prosaic” stuff) is definitely not offensive. However...
(Graphic descriptions ahead.)
A woman impaled on a tree with her heart ripped out? A woman cutting her wrist open? The worst one - a woman bleeding from her nipples and covered with blood all around her pubic areas, with that look on her face as if she just got raped?
It’s painfully difficult for me to think of the digital art as anything other than all that I said it was. However, I suppose everything is open to interpretation, and so if you see it differently than me, so be it. We all have the right to think what we will based on our core values. If Ego says most of his clients are women, maybe he’s right, but all I can think of is that those particular women are a part of the same sad tired outdated niche underground Gen-X music scene that everyday folks “just don’t understand”. My opinions quite obviously.
I appreciate your very kind words. They mean a lot to me.
As yours did me. Thank you very much! :-)
@jwmmakerofmusic sorry, I miscounted the pics and referred to the whole first group.
One of the images shows a dreaming woman with a tree growing from her chest carrying a heart. There is no sign of violence, it's a surrealistic scene open to imagination.
Blood is a natural sign of alarm for all of us, and it's a natural experience for women - which I can only imagine as frightening when it happens the first time.
But this is also the start of 'real' sexuality, a new section in life.
The blood is exaggerated, but the face shows kind of relief. She may have touched the blood (in fear) and then her breasts, confirming now I'm a woman.
I see no need to spoiler these thoughts - but I agree with you that it's up to the viewer in the end.
Great work, mate!
She may have touched the blood (in fear) and then her breasts, confirming now I'm a woman.
I’ve known a lot of women. None of whom would smear menstrual blood over their breasts! You certainly have a vivid, and quite strange imagination.
That said, art by definition is always in the eye of the beholder. It would have been considerate for the OP to include spoilers, and personally I don’t find mutilated women an appealing subject. But I would defend his right to express his creativity in any legal manner he chooses.
Preferably on an art forum.

Just spotted this, and for a moment thought you were being humorous. Sadly, you are not.
However, you have made me think seriously about coming out as an openly straight man. Surely, there can only be a few of us left, and those few offend people who don’t know if they’re Arthur or Martha. Oh dear.
@Zen210507 it's mostly about observation. There is no smear in the top part of the body, just those 2 rinses. Might as well be an imaginary extension of the natural process by the artist, but in any case there's few indication of violence. I didn't describe it as a female habit, but as a possible reaction to a specific experience... whatever.
The artist leaves that to the viewer and imho that's a part of art. In fact I only took a longer view after the rape comments.
I also disagree about the pet's mimic. The living one has quite a different expression on it's face than pictured. The latter may have been the one the artist experienced, but comments here were about the similiarity between photo and paintwork. The photo shows such a cool broad grin. Needless to say these are my subjective impressions - I don't claim to be right in any of the cases.
The work shown was intended as 'examples of skill, not content... blood and knives' only on request, probaly because 'explicite' violence today has become a main feature in some types of contemporary music and video, in particular games.
I'm much more concerned about idiots who watch and film accident victims to be the first to post ('share') on social media than by paintwork which is imaginary by nature.
Life has it's dark and sometimes frightening side.
I’m as serious as I am straight.

This is true, and art should represent that, too.

Seriously, I see no problem with anyone being whoever or whatever they wish to be. Within the law, and consenting adults, of course.
At the same time, I see it as a very healthy thing for people to joke with and about each other. Far too many people today would rather take offence, than take a joke.
I've been away for a few months due to major life changes. I had time to briefly pop in this weekend. Still the same whiners and complainers who stir shit up.
The little dogs, intimidated, bark loudest.
Make art, let others do the same...
SO much opinionated BS here
Some of us are big dogs.
Woof.
