  • Highly recommended.

  • Gonna learn it one day...

  • It's great, but kind of hoping for an AU extension now for midi sequencing with it :)

  • Really cool and different

  • This is the craziest drum machine I've ever used. It takes a minute to get a handle on what's going on but once you do it's madness on the scale of something like Moebius Lab. So worth the $5

  • I remember back when it cost 100€+...

  • I remember, way back when, folks getting upset at the mere suggestion that whatever price it was could be considered out of reach for many,

Then the dev dropped the price to something reasonable, and I bought it, then bought the add-ons, which are now free. I’ve never mastered this highly complex app, but at the current price it is a steal!

lol did anyone here buy it?

Im listening to demos and its "neat" but not very musical.

This was/is the problem people have with the app. While undoubtedly brilliant in its design and capabilities, the app requires much more effort to get a good result, than any other drum machine.

A couple of people did. Lots of hearty discussions about value, perceived value, scarcity and mystique. I bought it when it dropped down to about 20. It’s unique and pretty amazing but has a steeper learning curve than most other apps. I think it’s a great deal right now - definitely worth it for this price if you’re into polyrhythms and generative/semi-randomised composition, but it takes time to learn how it works. It won’t do the work for you! Can’t imagine a developer trying this in 2018 - it was another time. ;)

It can do the full range between musical, robotic, chaotic and dissonant. You're job is just to pull the levers and figure out which you like. How hard can that be?

  • I’ve had many apps like this. Fun to mess about with, but ultimately their stand alone nature never worked well with me actually using them with anything else to make music. I won’t mention the AU thing as I know some people will get all hot under the collar and wet their panties in anger lol

  • ahhh..ok...so Ive bought it...and had a bit of a play around...i think it may be time to drop the brown acid ....

Pulling the levers, not hard at all. Getting those pulls to sound musical....much trickier proposition.

  • All done with DD driving sounds on GB on my MBP...

I don't believe it's any harder than hitting the keys, banging the drums or plucking the strings. It takes a musicians mind to turn any sounds into music by giving them context. A basic four on the floor drum beat isn't particularly musical when it stands alone but turns into music quite easily as sounds and rhythms mingle with it.

For me, that's the joy of apps like Diff Drummer, that they force you as a musician to consider patterns that you wouldn't normally invent left to your own imagination.

Indeed, this is a very good thing. At the current price, anyone interested in rhythm should give it a go. :)

  • One of those interesting apps that I looked at on a regular basis but couldn’t justify, and probably wouldn’t scratch the surface of.

At this price though, no brainer.

With this app, that might be a good strategy. :D

  • It is iphoneable too.

    cheers

Yes it works as a midi sequencer, all iaps have been removed and now included I believe.

Yes, it works as an 8 channel midi sequencer, and you can assign multiple tracks to the same channel for layering.

I think all the IAPs are now free.

  • Nice tune @funjunkie27 !

Thanks! Most of my Soundcloud account is using Different Drummer, if you want other examples.

  • Btw....I have several YT videos out explaining how I use DD. Here's one...

  • Pokes around after a few brews without glancing at manual (I’ve fixed my ancient Nissan Pulsar’s brake light sensor issue today with the help of an angle grinder, I don’t need manuals) ... oh my, I think I need the manual ... this thing is proper nuts, I like.

  • How is this app compared to Patterning?

I find it absurdly complicated. It’s one of those apps where people are relieved when they can get something remotely musical out of it. If Patterning is “The Hobbit,” inventive and fun, Different Drummer is “The Silmarillion.”
    To me, anyway.
