I’m aware. Threads from 2016 are no interest to me.

Worth the price? What sets it apart from other VA synths? Are the devs adding AUv3 in the future?

You can download it for free to try. A payment opens other features but you can get a very good idea of if it suits you from the trial. I'm not an AU snob so I am quite good without AU, but it's coming eventually. I've also got it on desktop which allows me to save patches in their cloud-based banks and use them cross-platform.

I’m not an AU snob myself, but that’s where it’s all going. IAA is being ousted by developers frequently nowadays.

Reading threads from two years back about software that continually updates would be fairly redundant. But you be you I guess.

As if synthesizer apps stay the exact same for 2 years. It’s just lazy.

That may be read as Aus Nob around here, I’m not wearing that at the bar.

I like my, currently complete, set of fingers and thumbs.

    46.15 vs 53.85 %, not a such big difference.

    I want my « AU but not only » snob T-shirt !

DRC has not changed all that much over the past two years FWIW. To your original inquiry, what sets DRC apart from other VA synths in my opinion is its drive / distortion and the harmonics it offers to the raw waveforms. It’s capable of producing quite aggressive sounds that maintain a strong bottom end. It also has a really nice chorus and reverb. And rumor has it that an AU version is on the map.

  • So the OP edited out the original question/point to make this some kind surreal voting exercise?

I'm worrying about the space/time continuum.

Interesting accusation... I was seriously trying to help you. You'll learn way more about DRC from past threads than any other means.

Exactly. Ask a community for thoughts, receive them, high-handedly reject them without bothering to actually read what's suggested and THEN accuse folks of the snark. Not the best look.

I’m a snaub who constantly uses Egoist, Effectrix and Turnado on almost every track. I probably won’t buy an IAA only synth or fx app again though.

  • I am most definitely an Aus Nob. Sign me up.

    Preppers

  • I do prefer AUv3 and honestly all who do should keep their iOS devices up-to date since the old iOS versions will never get the AUv3 related fixes.

iOS12 is around with release in september/october and after that it's goodbye to AUv3 related fixes to the previous iOS11 version...

I read what was offered. It was from 2 years ago. Updates and things happen in two years.

If the response from two members of the community is simply "go read this thread from two years ago" then what good is the community?

  • well AU's in cubasis
life thru a letterbox is real fun
standalone if that were the only option

  • werent we talking about DRC?
If so, I think it’s one of the best VAs on iOS, like a lot of people here I’ve been on the beta since back when, and all it’s done is get better and better....

The AUv3 snob thing, nah. In my time using the iOS platform for music on iPad (since December 2010) there’s been a lot of steps forward including AUv3, but also constant steps sideways and back. Some combinations of AUv3 and hosts are still fails, and plenty of IAA options run like butter. And Apples update/upgrade cycle continues to destabilize...
I’m nowhere near deleting the IAA/AB only hosts and instruments, in fact lately that’s where I’m spending most of my iOS time.

there is no reason an AU can't be used as standalone application ;)
the developer just needs to write a little host to host the au = standalone app ;)

Trouble is; once you do that you have to add IAA and AB or there will be complaints and 1-star reviews. And when you’ve done that you will be forced to add Link. And then import/export of presets (and don’t you dare use iTunes for that). And then people will demand MIDI input/output. And MIDI learn. And bluetooth MIDI.

Basically, once you add a basic standalone mode you’re pretty much on a road to hell which will eat up more time than you invested in making the AU :#

So. Much. Redundancy. For a crappy user experience.
