Line of sight ultra high bandwidth transmission is already possible albeit only across a few feet, so a cradle could be viable to carry connections to various devices and charging also. Headphones though may be a problem.
NICOLA TESLA WHERE ARE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU!!!
Seriously, and believe me it is pretty serious, I turn seventy in a week. I think I can scrounge enough vintage iPads to keep me going for the duration. First time you all can be envious of a geriatric!
I notice the current iPad pros have a headphone jack, lightning port and smart connection. Maybe time to stock up? Surely they will be on Ebay for the next twenty years. Who will want them but us guys and probably pretty cheap! Think positive😈👹👽👻😊!
And what is a smart connector, please?
If they could just wait a few years until I die or get dementia (whichever comes first) it would be great. We're talking 30 years at the most. Not gonna happen, is it?
Getting rid of ports and buttons on a phone makes some sense, making it 100 waterproof, even if it is cumbersome. For tablets however? If they pull that, Mark can go f-ck himself. Sorry, just my two grumpy cents.
Good thinking... but!
Apple has always had a clear strategy of making operating systems and hardware cross obsolete. So you would soon be cought in a time capsule. And when you want to add something new to your arsenal, you will face some difficult choices. iOS 11 killing of apps comes to mind. Obviously it was a big change, but it could easily have been managed much better with softer landing. There are several other example of this and long time users know this. Recently Apple was forced to stop the practice of deliberately slowing down older devices (in order for users to upgrade), so when you are dancing with the devil, you need to Tango.
So, @idexis, are you saying 0.3 and my iPad4? What model and generation would serve best at this moment in time?
That's 10.3
I wish I had an answer in this matter that were built on knowledge. I’m only pointing out that the company has a reputation of using devious tactics to encourage (force) users to upgrade their hardware faster than they might otherwise prefer. Will Apple quit this behavior? One can only hope, but I wouldn’t bet large sums on it myself.
