Protein Der Klang: Importing Samples

How?

I tried iFunbox but it looks like some preset folder zip I can't create or access?

What am I missing on this to customize?

I’m using iMazing for this stuff now, and I can drop clips inside the “Documents” folder.
The .pdk is the project format but the Doc folder also collects the samples from AudioCopy and bulk imports via pc

  • I don’t see how it is done either- I have written to the devs to ask them. Has nobody else managed it?

  • AudioCopy and General Pasteboard work and are accessible in-app. ITunes might work for bulk but iMazing def. works, free-to-try software for your pc or Mac

    Thanks man!

  • Yes- found it now. Go to the long list of built in samples. Tap on one. Takes you to pink page with sample details. Tap on the little icon with the two little box shapes together- and you are in

I’ve had the thing and thought it was amazing since it went live but I’m only just now finding where everything is. And there’s a lot to find

  • Glad someone else is using this app.

It’s like a cryptic puzzle- it’s like it’s saying- you don’t deserve to use this unless you put the work in. It feels like I’m playing Tomb Raider again.

  • Strange- and a bit of a bummer- I don’t seem to be able to access the manual online or in app anymore.

  • @robosardine

For the manual select the symbol in the bottom right corner ( three triangles ), then select the symbol in the top left corner ( open book symbol ).

Hi- thanks- what I was meaning was that it won’t open even going down that route- all I get is a blank page now. And when I try via Google- nothing loads.
For some reason every time I try to search for PDK on the internet I always type in Protein Van Der Klang.... I wish I could stop doing that.....

  • So this won' open in Audiobus or AUM?

    I just realized that?

  • Ahhhh..... I hadn’t got that far yet- I’m still trying to work out the squares from the squiggles- even being able to open it and arrive at the same destination twice in a row would be a bonus... it’s even harder without a manual. I think I might just slip this back into the toy box and shove it back in the cupboard again. I’m remembering why it got covered in so much dust in the first place now....

What a shame, this seems so legit and so much potential.

I don't know why a dev wouldn't want it to survive?

I got PDK to launch as a source and play into AudioShare with both AB2 and AB3. For AB2 I had to open PDK first, AB3 took two tries but audio flowed

Also used PDK as destination in AB3, recorded Animoog in-

@robosardine that you’re not able to open in-app manual is so odd.

No luck with AUM here either, this seems to be because PDK as IAA is a fail...

    Absolutely!
I have had this app forever, and about once a year, I pull it out and say, "You know, this looks really interesting!"
I start poking around on the controls, get something interesting going, and then wonder how the hell that happened. After trying to retrace my steps, and tearing my hair out in fruitless frustration, I eventually put it away, and tell myself, "Maybe next time..."
    I like cryptic.
    I like tools.
However, I just don't think cryptic and tool make a very good combination.

    But maybe next time!!!

Just installed on my phone and I see what you mean. No manual.

The manual shows on my iPad though...

I can attempt export to ibooks, or copy paste if anyone would like a copy of the manual.

Confirm that PDK runs in audioshare and audiobus 2. I think I've had it running in modstep.

Thank you for that- but I will leave it for the time being- I have a feeling that it will take to much effort now even with a manual (factoring in short attention span).
I have already pulled another old toy out of the box which is a lot easier to get a good old racket going with- namely GlitchBreaks. Van der Klang has had his chance :|

    @robosardine
Getting manual no prob on iPhone too. So weird. Maybe because I’m on old phone (6)
    Three button presses away.

  • @Littlewoodg said:

Tried again and now it's there. Peculiar. Must be connected to wifi??

PDK requires some time investment, but it's worth it robosardine.

Hopefully the developer will update. In some ways PDK is reminiscent of ableton live 1.

  • Thanks- I will try it again at some stage :)

    And then these happened

  • Strangely enough- my manual is now available..... and it’s been changed. The importing sample instruction is now much clearer- haven’t checked the rest yet- but hoping it has had an overhaul.

Can I straight import a wav from Audioshare or only record in?

What ways can I get an existing loop into this app/

    Sorry if same question

    Still not figured out.

If you’re starting in AudioShare, once you’ve chosen you’re clip, use the General Pasteboard/AudioCopy export option

    Then tap-hold here in PDK

    Then you’ll see this:

Tap one of the pads and you’ll get here

And when you tap that AudioCopy icon I’ve circled, you’ll see this:

Notice how PDK thinks it’s still Sonoma AudioCopy. Either way, still works...

  • Just came back to this to give it another shot+ I’m glad I did. Maybe it’s me but I think the manual has been rewritten. Anyway it’s great so thanks all for the encouragement. If you follow the manual- it’s easy to get to grips with- if you don’t you will probably be stuffed- like I was. Give it a go with the manual- it’s worth it if you like mangled up glitch madness. @RUST( i )K are you on top of the importing now?
