Spent about £100 on ios drums. Maybe its just me but ios drums arnt great but havent really practiced. They all have advanced features but dont get the basics. Will try sb drum. Elastic drums. eg pulse. Drambo. Grooverider. Elastic drums are good but I will post to show why I cant use it well. The menu thing just disappears before changing sound. Then trying to switch of automation is a nightmare. Drambo is good for p lock sounds. sb drum is good for tones but sequencer chasing is annoying. Always not getting on with ios sequencers. Does the impact solve the basic concept of drums on the fly? Or does it then mean you are always on the inpact also because it dosent have automation? Needs to work with the multi out though. Not sure how the 4 outputs are/how many sounds via each output but would layer with a volca drums automation and hoping the stutter across both sounds good. Dont like the impact needs 2 hands for rolls. All ios drum machines are still good when you already have a groove or record but getting going spontaneous isnt as good as hardware.

I’m very happy with the ruismaker apps and also Sugar Bytes DrumComputer. The ruismakers quickly gets you going and have a nice analog/FM sound, noir lets you craft your own sounds. DrumComputer is so versatile - it almost leaves no wishes open. EG Pulse does the job well for drum samples.

Thanks Krassmann. Always wondered about the ruismakers. I think I will end up using Drambo ( obviously other apps ) but built a live rig also, Nothing more is actually needed but maybe a 2nd ipad is better than a drumbrute even for live noodling. Elastic drums on a screen. Some synths on another etc and still be kind of nessesarry if ended up switching to all Drambo. I worry too much ( about THINGS ) like now Id continue by saying theres the possibilty of switching the volca drum for another volca modular, even when using all Drambo.

  • sb drum seems a bit more immediate than drambo maybe but would need practice. It seems I either need to go blah, a drum pattern + polyrythums maybe or be able to make an advanced beat/track. Its best to actually practice/use apps obviously. Sb drum were ( maybe still ) going to be for live noodles etc.
