Hype Quanta Click Click Boom Dead?
What the heck happened there? I mean geez what a messed up situation. Reminds me of when labels drop snippets of tracks, then exclusive vinyl. By the time you can buy the track, the whole thing just looses its momentum. I bet a heck of a lot of people watched the Quanta threads here and then were turned off. They should be up nights, rotating, ordering Chinese over at Audio Damage -- just trying to get the math right on the envelopes or iOS integration or whatever the frig killed their app. Someone put the problem to the fellas at Princeton.

Why go to Princeton, when Kentucky fried pizza, comes to the rescue, in a situation like this.
They did solve the problems, didn't they? Even implemented a quick workaround for the nasty Apple bug that inexplicably messed with Safari (because Apple are too busy removing ports and putting a notch in the next iPad to fix it themselves).
in 1982, the fairlight cost $32,000. it was plagued with all sorts of problems both hardware and software.
2018, quanta, which can do so much more than just play back samples, full granular engine with extremely impressive modulation possibilities, and fun to work with.. cost $8.00
I have no idea what you're on about with this exclusive vinyls metaphor, but I don't know why people feel the need to complain about an instrument that not only works beautifully, but it is the most incredible synthesizer I've come across in a long time. if you don't want it, don't buy it.
you could put the $8 toward a bucket of kentucky fried balogna rolls.
Got it. Been enjoying it a lot the past 2-3 days.
I like it a lot. It's not a synth which produces nice sounds easily - but that's not a bad thing. Not having built in reverb means the presets aren't all smothered in dollops of ear candy.
The only thing which would make it better would be animation of the modulated parameters (particularly the filters), but maybe only in edit mode, to keep CPU usage under control.
Great app, many thanks to Audio Damage for making it available for iOS users.
Still clicky voice retriggering. Chipmunk 🐿 pitch using a 96khz audio interface.
Quanta sounds very nice once you know how to avoid the clicks. For a click free experience you need to set it to max 6 voices, don't use long attack/release times on the envelopes and don't play more than 6 keys at once.
It's similar like Ipulsaret with the extra option to blend the inbuilt synth with the sample part.
I like and use it a lot.
I’m not the biggest fan of audio damage apps but Quanta is pretty impressive. Spend some time with it (2-3 hours) and you’ll yield some great results. I love the combination of sampler and subtractive synthesis. It isn’t a game changer but it was worth the buildup. To each their own I guess.
I agree. I actually wish more synth plugins didn't have effects. 99% of the time they aren't great sounding.
I’m loving Quanta, producing many sounds that I would be unable to get with a normal synth, it is a wonderful addition to the armoury, and worth every penny/cent. It is one of my best buys in a long time.
Yes I love it and can live with the clicks now that I'm used to the synth. I feel like there were some improvements made under the hood (I was getting harsher ones before) but it's just the style of the synth so you either need to workaround it or have a slow tempo to avoid clicks,/use multiple instances for more voices. Decreasing tails of envelopes and increasing voices is usually what you need to do.
capable of lots of great sounds this synth
I never got the clicks and the synth seems to work fine after 2 updates and a reinstall. There have been better topics to rant about in the history of the world.
And why would they order Chinese? No food is more motivation-killing than Chinese, unless you're just eating steamed rice.
Boy, I need to dig deeper in ipulsaret. You really seem convinced of it. Next stop: revisiting iPulsaret
Nothing to see here.
It had that iCloud problem at launch that was solved in about one day.
People having issues with clicks? Yeah, like that never happens on iOS, it must just be Quanta.
It was explained that this is not a ‘smooth’ granular, and was never intended to be. That came straight from the developer, if you were paying attention.
It is also stated in the app description that this synth will push your device to the limit, and low powered devices will suffer when trying to run it.
People have posted tracks featuring Quanta, so it obviously works.
As far as pre-release excitement, followed by a near total drop off in chatter around here?
That happens all the time, with synths in particular it would seem.
By contrast, Spacecraft landed out of nowhere and had tons of excitement when it was released. That excitement built up as word of mouth spread around here. The developer Mark was very engaged with the users here, which I think built up even more interest. The discussion has tapered off quite a bit by now, as usual. It still is awesome, and I use it nearly every day. I just ain’t blabbing about it in here.
Quanta is most likely in the same situation. People are using it, exploring it, most likely enjoying it, but have stopped blabbing on about it. It is more fun to actually play the thing than it is to wait for it to be released, but until it is available, all you can do is engage in speculative discussions.
But whatever, people see what they want to see.
Like I said in the first line, nothing to see here. For me, anyway.
For me the click issue i have never experienced on any other IOS app and I do not believe it is related to it being 'not a smooth granular' it is due to voice stealing. Also it is broken when using an audio device at 96khz (chipmunk city) unlike any of my other ios apps. Its cool you are happy with it but i still have issues and no response at all from the Dev who i emailed twice unlike Spacecraft where the Dev almost encourages extra challenges from the users.
That’s not to say it can’t do smooth - it can. It just gives you more option regarding the grain shape, etc. for more versatility.
@[Deleted User] I had a similar experience with Axon2 when that came out. Stayed broken for months, no info from the dev beyond acknowledging the problem existed. It eventually got fixed, I believe, but that was the one and only app refund I even requested.
Still haven’t repurchased it, still got a bad aftertaste from that one.
This one is usable. It ain’t perfect, but for me it ain’t broke either. I just saw this thread as an invitation to bitch and moan about things that have been dealt with, along with trying to declare the app a failure. I don’t really give a shit, but would rather not see that happening to AudioDamage on this forum. They have some of the best apps on iOS. I would hate for them to walk away from this platform.
Fair point, I should say I use E02 on everything (bread and butter effect) I also own Discord4 and i never had any issue with them and they sound awesome. I actually didn't really notice the title until now.

I really wanted a grain synth which wasn’t just atmos and pads (there are quite a few on iOS already).
It is quite a different beast and a great alternative to other grain synths on offer. Very happy here but as with all the synths not for everyone
Fm and ring mod are traditional synthesis techniques while this is a grain based synth, so it’s a different beast. You can certainly make noisy, clanging sounds (not sure what you mean by Krach) with high frequency content. You just need an appropriate sample. And the envelopes, lfos and mod matrix put most synths to shame.
well said!
I personally find quanta to be ideal for doing ambient stuff. But different strokes I guess..
I'm having no problems with clicks, and really have no idea what all the fuss is about. I find quanta to be the most intuitive and inspiring synth to come out in quite a while. It's flexible envelopes and lfo's are incredibly powerful, not to mention the modulation possibilities.
I’m into ambient soundscapey stuff, and you can do a bit of that with Quanta - it’s very versatile, and as it’s AU you can layer multiple instances for really big pads.
I haven’t had an issue with clicks either.
