Keeping things simple for a Saturday had fun downloading a few classic synth wavs from this site for free to try them out in AudioLayer. Anyone else recommend any good wav classic sounds websites.

    https://freewavesamples.com/sources

Try some of my 'raw' SY85 samples. They should be quite fine for exploring the synthesis capabilities of AudioLayer and also check out some of the looping functions (ie. create a loop for the pad-type sounds) :)

@Samu What a great collection of basic (and some not so basic) sounds, these could be really useful fodder for apps like Quanta as well! Thanks for sharing.

  • Sorry if this was now answered but what formats can be used with AudioLayer?

    No problemo!
I do wish I had 'ROM Dumps' from the SY85. It's only ~6MB or so for 240+ samples.

A tip here is to layer 1-4 sounds in AudioLayer and use the filters etc to mimic the 'Performance Mode' of the SY85 where it was possible to layer up to 4 sounds.

AudioLayer however does NOT include separate FX sends for the layers yet which would further increase it's flexibility :)

@VirSyn Just had a 'click of death' in AudioLayer(stand alone) ie. it 'clipped/ducked' so hard CoreAudio decided to shut down but the rest still works.(In order to recover from this 'iOS Bug' a reboot of the iPad is needed).

Maybe I should just stop using single-cycles waves with AudioLayer for now...
(I will try to reproduce the 'clipping' consistently, It's happened twice now but only using the built-in speakers of the Air 2, now problem with external USB-Audio Interface or built-in 3.5mm jack).

  • oh my goshness.... I just realized that I can Au<3 up my favorite THOR sounds with this incredible app.
This is crazy. Sooooo soon good. The GUI and other features are pretty straight forward and doug gave a perfect overview of this. grandios!!!! love it

  • @VirSyn Ok I updated to 11.4.1 today and shows a slight improvement in Audiolayer AUv3 in apeMatrix ipad 12.9 Pro2, but still not working properly, the gui trigger lines show up but flicker then disappear if pushed to fullscreen view and then you can't get them back. Plus still crashes quite frequently. Same in AUM. this also happens on my Air2 the gui trigger lines seem to disappear when forced to fullscreen mode, then you can't get them back until restarting the AU.

Can send a video if it helps.

  • @VirSyn feature request:
Start / stop sample record from the Audiobus transport par.

  • Looking forward to seeing some tutorials for this, I’m lacking a few basics. For example when I try to edit the volume envelope for a sample layer, it seems to affect all layers.

@MonzoPro Had the same problem with panning. I think it might have something to do with having the scope box ticked or not but yes more videos and the manual would be great hopefully this week.

Yes, you have to have the scope box selected at the layer level.

Thanks for the replies guys - 'Instrument scope' is selected in both layers when I create a new patch with two layers - and I'm not able to switch it off.

[update] - ah, should be in 'Layer' mode, ignore the above...

[update 2] - ok now I'm completely confused. When I'm in 'layer' mode, I'm able to change the audio envelope for sample 1, but when I switch to layer 2, it has no effect. Then when I'm in Layer 1 and I change the filter, it affects layer 2 as well, even though the scope box is not selected.

[Update 3] - didn’t fully take in Wim’s comment, instrument scope stays selected unless you select layer scope.

Note to anyone confused as I was - have ‘layer scope’ selected on ALL layers if you want to make individual changes.

    Should be default really.

  • Hello everybody ! I have been reading on this forum a long time now without commenting. Such a great forum and friendly people.
I bought the Virsyn Audiolayer yesterday, and what a great app. So many possibilities.
    Many thanks to Virsyn.

importing a range of samples and automatically spreading them over the keys in some kind of auto function could be useful for setting up instruments with loads of samples.

    +10000

That’d probably be enough for me to instabuy. I have a lot of Samples From Mars instruments’ multisampled wavs and BM3 does a good job of automatically assigning them to the correct keyzone, no fuss at all, just drag sample from the bm3 browser and drop them anywhere and the sample snaps itself to the correct key/velocity zone (guess the info is encoded in the wavs somehow). Buuuuut.....you can only select/drag ONE sample at a time in the BM3 browser...can start to drive you crazy when rebuilding large Samples From Mars instruments....If Audiolayer could enable instant instrument building just by selecting a folder to ‘import all’, that’d be great for workflow..

yeah we'll need this. iOS is still so bad for manipulating lots of files, compared with desktop that we'll need all the help we can get.

@MonzoPro Yes that one was getting me totally confused aswell. Thanks for the answers.

  • Yes, we are going to need keyboard input as much as possible. fiddling with velocity layers in zones without a mouse is very difficult, or we'll need a bigger zoom option.

Yes, zoom all the way. Should be no problem with metal 2?
Of course full autosampling will do it all for you ;)
And i still wonder why we get not more drop n´drag everywhere.

Yeah, I'm sure after more development this app will have better options here, but I'm always impatient :)

  • I’m going to have to leave this for a bit as I’m getting seriously wound up. The only thing I seem to be able to change, per layer, is the volume. Everything else - panning, filter, stays the same on each layer. If I pan layer 1 left, then check layer 2, that’s panned left 2. Pan layer 2 right, go back to layer 1 that’s now panned right. > @MonzoPro said:

No worries - yeah threw me for ages that one!

  • There seems to be no way to audition velocity using the built in keyboard so a way to audition the velocity zones without external equipment would be nice.

One of the reasons I asked for vertical velocity a few posts/pages ago :)

Also being able to preview the recorded sample while trimming would be handy...

Yes, I'm finding a lot of these things are necessary requests whilst building my first large multi sampled instrument. It's early days I know for the app. :)

  • @MonzoPro I'm likewise stumped by how the three tabs on the left interact with each other. It's certainly not intuitive. Agree that we need vertical velocity and auditioning while trimming. It's early days--ReSlice came along nicely after initial release (choke groups, etc); I trust the same will happen here.

  • Anyone else notice both alto flute instruments B3 is sounding as A3?

Early days indeed, for AU samplers in general. As much as I would love an AU sampler I am really on the fence with this one. The intro price lure makes it tempting to get in now but I just think there is a super broad range of things people would like to see with this one and that the odds of my few interests (mainly better fx routing) being reflected in updates is higly unlikely.

  • If I understood it all well, there's only smooth import of files through iCould. @VirSyn my iCould is full with backups. Will there also be other cloud import option like dropbox or stack?

It’s a bit quirky - took me a while to suss it out. As far as I can tell ‘Instrument’ is the global section, and changes affect all layers if ‘instrument scope’ is selected.

Selecting the Layer tab, and then the far left layer dropdown, allows you to make changes to the selected layer, but only if ‘layer scope’ is selected as well.

It’d be handy if there was an easier way to jump between layers, it takes a few clicks at the moment, and maybe different colours for each layer.

Haven’t messed with Zones, but I’m guessing editing these would be the same as layers.

Now I’ve worked out the basics I should be able to make some decent patches.
