@db909 and @RockySmalls this is related to what I'm working on right now and is currently in beta. Notes played on midi keyboard (either hardware or the on screen one in a host) are not latched. There will eventually be an option to turn on/off latching both for midi and touch interface, at which point your request will be satisfied . I've also been looking into implementing some basic attack and release envelope on volume for the notes played; this is a bit tricky in SC but I think it's feasible.

Very very cool and thank you. I had written off granular synthesis as too “noisy” before this app. No more. Very nicely curated set of controls and a gorgeous interface. I will leave a review

Watching these gems evolve by independent devs is what I really like about this scene.

Reminds me of the old shareware stuff back in the day, but more social.

Hat tip to the AB forum for facilitating it too. B)

    Love it!

  • Truly an awesome app! Completely addictive! In a very good and creative way! :D
    Congratulations on a masterpiece!

  • This weekend has been super productive. I managed to get amplitude attack and release envelope working independently for each note on a normal midi keyboard (great for playing in the top right of the grain panel) and also got seaboard working with per note independent pressure control. :D

My plan is to use some other axis on the seaboard to modulate the position too. Anybody with a seaboard is in for a treat ;)

Great to hear about the envelopes! I have the Linnstrument, will any MPE Instrument work?

  • Not sure. Would be great to test it out on the beta . The seaboard sends channel pressure on 16 channels. If linstrument does the same then it should work

That would be the next beta, right?

  • Affirmative

  • Awesome can’t wait to try it with GeoShred! :)

I just managed to get seaboard slide left right (usually pitchbend) to change the playhead position. Amazingly this works for each note independently! So you can slide left and right with multiple fingers and the grains move around. Kind of like the LFO on steroids. :)

Sorry to hype but I'm really excited about this mpe thing !!

  • Can't keep my hands off this one, the price is too good to be true!!

    Sounds amazing.

I have a Roli Block (much recommended) which sends all the same values as a seaboard.

    Can’t wait.

I'm scared to disappear too far down the hardware tunnel, but when you say you have the 'block' what did you get a hold of and is it enough?

    Agree

The human component is so amazing

And ironic due to the tech nature of it all.

    Great post

@Dchild I'm thinking I'll raise the price a bit at some point but not until state saving, presets and midi are properly implemented and live and well. Not planning on doing IAP

YES! you need some bux/dinero coming in to help keep you, the app and the concept alive. As I have little REAL musical/keyboard skills, this sort of “free-wheeling” app is helpful to me to get out of the iPad. I’ll be looking forward to any new goodies.

Aside & OT: I can comersate with you discovering unexpected probs. I’ve been working on a Processing/Arduino project for nearly a year! I overturned a number of things I simply never knew about - but have learned a TON in the process. Sure do hope that light I’m now seeing at the end of the tunnel isn’t that....train! 👻

Ah, sorry. I got a ‘light block M’ -basically the cheapest ticket you can buy to the show. And yes, it’s more than enough for me personally since I’m no keyboard player and you can very easily restrict all its pads to a set scale.

Used with the Noise app or Volt (or equator on the Mac) it’s great.

And actually the really ingesting thing would be getting it to do it’s full MPE thing with SynthMaster One. Which I’ve only dabbled in. But that could be massive.

Thank you Mister. Popped up towards the top of my list. Of course, a very clever financial design, drip some, drip some more... :) Does look very fun though...

  • I have a lightblock too (developer kit). I tested it and was surprised how well it works. If you set it up as notes you have independent pressure control on each note played and sliding left/right modulates the grain positions (also independently per note).

This feature will be in beta soon

You’re going to cost me AU$450 for a Seaboard at this rate. I bet you’re on Roli’s staff and on commission. ;)

  • @deltaVaudio, It would be awesome to see a vid sometime on how you integrate the lightblock with Spacecraft.
Curious what advantages it has over playing everything off the iPad surface.
    Is it much more expressive?

I'm hoping the ipad via apps like thumbjam can achieve a similar result as using a seaboard block regarding independent pressure per note etc... I have ask the thumbjam Dev if he could let me know the possibilities. I use the ipad when travelling so I rather not use an additional controller in that particular situation. The seaboard functionality is awesome though!!

  • It's unbelievably expressive, for me it is now THE way to use SC, but I'm making sure it also works well with a normal midi keyboard. I'm getting ready to do a YouTube video to show what MPE can do. Might just make it unlisted on here for you guys in the meantime until I release it to the app store. I don't work for roli, promise ! Note, MPE stuff is not in beta yet.

Here’s what I’m thinking @deltaVaudio . Tempo sync/ableton link stuff. I wanna set the grain size thing and the lfo to divisions of a tempo, quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, the standard stuff. Also think it would be super cool if the audio selector brackets could also serve as loop braces and you could set it to automatically scrub through the audio at the tempo or divisions thereof, forwards, backwards, forward then backwards, backward then forwards. This way you could tinker with the other stuff while the audio is being scrubbed through at a set pace. Set recording length would be cool too, by the bar. Perfect loops could then be exported for use elsewhere. Love this app!

  • @db909 funny you should mention that. I've been working on something like this over the weekend, already implemented, but not in beta yet. The lfo has had a facelift and can scrub at divisions of the tempo much like the grain frequency syncs to divisions of the tempo. I've also implemented triplets into both grain frequency sync and lfo sync which sounds amazing. This really makes SC rhythmic. Super excited about this !!!

I think the improvements to the lfo pretty much take care of what your audio selector brackets suggestion would do. Now over all frequencies the lfo max distance can travel much further so you can tune it to whatever length you need.
