the *new* NanoStudio hype discussion thread ...
Okay okay, i'm sorry. Really. But, I bought this yesterday and though in my mind it's bad form to opine about a synth or DAW or groovebox (or whatever we are calling these things) early on in it's use ... this thing is a serious piece of work. I love it. The workflow to me is just stellar. Easy, clear, quick and efficient. Sounds great.
I read this from last year and got suitably optimistic.... from the dev ...
"During development of NS2 I experimented with different ideas for the sequencer but more or less came full circle. The net result is that NS2 has the same linear tracks/parts you're familiar with from NS1. What I've tried to do instead is relax certain restrictions, such as no limit on the number of tracks, effects, parts or events (up to your device's CPU/RAM naturally). NS1 also had the restriction that only one part would play if there were overlapping parts on the track but NS2 will play overlapping parts, automatically sorting them into lanes on the UI.
Tracks in NS2 will be familiar when used in their simplest form, but NS2 also lets you go beyond a linear list by allowing you to drag and drop tracks into a hierarchy and add audio or MIDI send/returns so you can form groups, buses, custom chains etc. It latency compensates the audio graph so that any effects, instruments or Audio Units which introduce latency will all stay in time relative to each other.
Being limited by CPU usage is another (often overlooked) restriction. NS2 is super-optimised so you can run 10's of synths and over 100 effect instances on newer hardware. This has taken a fair amount of development time but I feel it's worth it (and perversely, I always enjoy optimization work).
So the bottom line is that I'm mostly trying to build upon what's there but provide 'the next level' if you want to go deeper, with heavy consideration towards CPU efficiency. As always, the main challenge is trying to get the UI/learning curve right so that the more advanced stuff doesn't get in the way of the day-to-day stuff. I'm not sure I'm quite there yet with that but fingers crossed."
Okay, please, if you know of any status, update this thread. I want to know all about it. Back to your regular Korg and Props threads ...

Is this mere optimism or inside info or have you been to a soothsayer? This year would be fab!
Gee, just noticed this on the NanoStudio forum ...again from the dev on 07/23/18...
"Hello. It's still all happening, it will definitely be this year.
There have been some hold-ups solving various compatibility issues with Audio Units - each problem has been unique and has needed detective work to track down and solve, often involving cooperation with AU devs to work through the issues. It's slowed things down but I'd prefer to get it right rather than deliver a flaky product.
The good news is that I'm happy that the app is now up to release quality, but there are still a couple of features left to add.
I will announce a release date when I'm sure I can make it without risk."
Very pleased to read this!
NS1 is still my most used app and thats after having tried most of the competition. It can do most of what i can imagine up. Its workflow IS stellar and its fun. Fun is a big part of it for me. Eden makes a lot of pretty noises that are right up my alley. A lot of apps of this genre are decent enough but NS1 is just funner or more funner. I hope Mr Blip keeps NS2 fairly simple/approachable for nit wits like myself at least on the surface, like its predecessor.
What will make it complete for me is this AU thing. That is beautiful. I think I may have found my dream platform.
I was too late the NS1 party stopped by then (when I got notice of it).
So I am highly excited for the new version. Hope NS2 will come this year.
What I heard so far... this will be the one app that will overshadow everything and it will be the only app you will ever need again in your life. So promising
I must confess, its looking awesome: http://forums.blipinteractive.co.uk/node/11615
And sounding really good: https://soundcloud.com/blip-interactive
When this app hits it will be as close to perfect as you can get. I had some issues with workflow on NS1 (that’s just me) but this looks amazing! Funny that I just took a peek on the Blip forum last night to see what was up.

Gah. So good. NS1 was my VERY FIRST EVER purchased app on the App Store. Used it for years and years and years.
I look forward to giving Matt my money for this new iteration. If the workflow is anything at all like the original, which it looks like it will be, it’s a real winner
Ns2 is a one man show. I’m afraid all the high expectations and demands will burn out the dev. Building a daw for ios is a big task that take years. I just hope that after he releases it he’ll still have energy to fix all bugs and implement new feature requests.
Nice! Sounds great and an update from today nonetheless. Yes.
Yeah, I cannot imagine the drive to be able to do it. Pretty amazing.
NS2 will not have any significant bugs and new features are already in planning stages. I don’t remember any significant bugs in NS1. Anybody else?
I really am getting super hyped for this.
Oh forgot to ask, does anyone know what this will cost?
Matt sets high standards for himself and I'd rather wait until he's satisfied with his own work. I expect NS2 to fill the space that I hoped BM3 would, including a more sophisticated synth and a multilayer sampler.
In terms of MPC-style sampling to pads, NS1 is still one of the fastest and most intuitive apps. And it runs on a "waste" iPhone 4 like a dream at 9ms latency when controlled by external MIDI.
I hit refresh on the NS forum at least twice a day. Oh dear.
Nope. An app that complicated with so few bugs is really a bit of a marvel to me. I write much simpler code all day long and produce 300X the number of bugs!
Which makes that iPhone the cheaper hardware NanoStudio I can imagine.
I was reading about how he has it laid out for the future. Sounds intensely organized and logical — guess you’d have to be.
Honestly though, when I started playing with it yesterday there was a moment of like, err, how did I not know about this? How can this be so tight? And then the, man, if I could use X synth in this app it would be perfect! Then to find out there will be AU support in the next version!? Holy crap.
I will work with what I have, which is plenty, and plan for the future. Good days ahead!
Some interesting insight for those who haven’t seen this:

I remember how impressed I was after purchasing the original Nanostudio and I’m confident that version 2 will create the same impression, as other have said I do t remember any issues when it dropped not in the time spent using it afterwards.
In addition it’s nice to see a developer who isn’t banging the drum every five minutes about how their new project is the ultimate everything only to deliver a buggy disappointment.
Nanostudio was my first app too for an ancient iPod touch! Love to see how NS2 has evolved
Awesome, it just makes me want to buy it even more, even if I'd never use it. I have a first gen iPad that I was given as well as an ipod touch that was my daughter's that both have ns1 and alchemy on them. They will remain as legacy hardware devices. The sequencer and arranger on ns is still my favorite of any progam I've ever used.
Fair perspective but it's just not Matt's style. Sure it will not dove global poverty but also sure feature/stability wise it'll be worth the wait.
