GENOME: Why I still use and consider the easiest for my workflow.
Genome.
Record notes.
Record automation.
Sets up easy.
Auto connects to all sources.
You just set channel on app you are using.
16 possible channels.
You can control your patterns(groups of tracks via midi as well)
Built in basic analog drum machine.
It is like MODSTEP in many ways.
Just no hosting ability. The app does midi.
Pure and simple. One purchase and this app does everything I ever need and till this day it serves me well.
I am looking for an iPhone equal, but it is hard.
I know there is a lot of talk about sequencers but I needed to post what I use and why for those who are not familiar with it.

@RUST( i )K What does this mean from the app page ...
"- Basic Audiobus support"
Let me add two more great features:
I'm still using it regularly, maybe simply because I know it well enough from the ancient times I worked with David Wallin to improve clock sync and fixing transport control
Another question ... so what this offers me/us over say AUM is the piano roll and editing?
Genome is a pattern-based MIDI sequencer, nothing like AUM.
Yeah, forgive me, I'm all over the place. hehe
The routing stuff, I guess I was thinking.
Good dude
Philly brother fellow Yank
Seems great, and it's super ergonomic, tried it many times, but, to me, it just doesn't swing at all...
Even a simple 4/4 beats does not stay in line.
Dare to sketch your setup?
@rs2000 last time I tried, it was for the latest update a year or 2, and the workflow was very simple:
iPad pro 12' running it, AUM, 1 or 2 synths driven resulting in nothing in line, just the worst midi timing I've ever had from a sequencer...
I> @crony said:
I believe update happened or is about to
I never had an issue
Ya, weird. I’ve always found Genome to be stable af.
It means you can use Genome as a source in AB - it’s got its own synths, but also so you can sidecar it in an AB session next to your nutrimentos to take advantage of the AB control strip - genome will appear in the control strip that appears in your instruments and where ever you’re recording them if you have a daw or recording app in your AB sesh...
Ok, took the advice of @RUST( i )K and got this app. It’s just brilliant.
It is
check out the live play stuff...
This button
Takes you
Where you can make loops, pitching and gain happen on the fly on any and all channels
hehe I’m not even sure what I’m looking at but I believe you. I’ve been looking for this app ...
How does it do as a MIDI looper? Can it sit in background and be controlled by external MIDI devices? Record/ rewrite, etc?
YUP
Stop it!
After Modstep came out I stopped using Genome, but if it ever got an AUv3 conversion that would give it a new lease of life for me....
It's not built to be a live recording looper, you'd rather use "Infinite Looper" for that.
You can however trigger pre-recorded patterns over MIDI, and they will start/stop in-sync.
Ah OK, I can't say anything about this setup, I'm never using AUM when driving my synths.
I was using it a lot, then xequence appeared...
LINK has updated since then if that makes a difference as well.
If you work with hardware grooveboxes or sequencers and you like to jam triggering different patterns, there's still no alternative to Genome.
Actually I don't. I compose linearly, like a classic composer, without patterns. So Xequence suits me better. But genome had been my favorite sequencer for many years before I switched.
There is that looping function...you can create and play with midi loops live, with finger tips, within your patterns of any length. Sort of like DJing within patterns you’ve made.
Recording audio requires sending instrument audio to a host of course
Modstep is a good alternative, even if Genome has a simpler workflow, but as I said, even with Link, it wasn't ok for me with the tempo...Maybe with IOS 12, but my workflow is fully functional now...so...
My experiments (first time use) last night yielded pretty quick success. I tried one midi pattern of each of several synths. However, I could not get Sunrizer to work with Genome. Dunno what I was doing wrong and why it would be different than the other synths I tried.
I had 4 synths going at a time in various combos - Ruismaker, Noisemaker, Mersenne, Poison with a different midi pattern each. All in sync. Though obviously short patterns ...
Should I ever use "network session one" in the setup?
Anyhow, fun stuff and looking forward to digging in more and sending midi externally.
iPads, iPhone and Digitakt go into the UAC-8 and I record them either with Audio Evolution or with Cubasis.
