  • Hey guys, just finished this yesterday...I usually master.my stuff with the Audiomastering app, but thought id try one of these online "instant" jobbies...i like how it sounds, but it's sooo loud innit?? Anyway...I'll be grateful for any feedback please and also can i fix the volume by simply importing this into Auria...lowering the output volume and mixing down again??
    Cheers guys :)

Listen to Astronaut by Pebble Wreck #np on #SoundCloud

  • @studs1966 It's nice acapella, the singer has a great voice, love the ad-libs. Mix and production are top-notch as usual, like the horns and the keys, and the bass that pulses along throughout the track. The vocal really gives it a cool and gritty feel, I could listen to her voice all day.

Thanks Richard... The Vocals are Angie Brown famous singer from Clapham (South London).. She sung with Bizarre Inc 's two hits " I'm Gonna Get You " (1992) and " Took My Love " (1993)….

Hi to all of the song of the month guys :)

I keep working really hard on my new track, hope it will be done in less than a week or two...Techno obscure thing, but I think it's going quite okay atm...
In the meantime, here's my feelings about your songs...

@richardyot production is nice, I like the atmosphere until 0'45, then, the chorus, to me is out of tune, and (sorry, just giving the more details I can to help) completely boring harmonically.
Then at 1'05, it goes back to a song that I'm in phase with.
2nd verse, your voice is too "trainante" (seems the same word as french...)
So to me it needs more affirmations on the structure and harmony progression, not just something to "fill" the harmonic space just because it's on the tone, but because it has a progression that catch the audience.

  • @Jmcmillan very nice intro, good production, the violin theme is simple, just the end of some notes seems a bit cuted (it's just on very few places) but it "kills" a bit the good song.
Drums seems to be to "ornemental" having less attention regarding the harmonics. No need to put a ton of drums, but something that stick better to this track omho.

  • @crouchie long time man ! Hope you're doing well ! I moved back to France, have been in a non music break for almost two years...
So, happy to see that you keep working on your tracks ! I've set a new studio, and working really hard to achieve a live, hopefully for real this time...
As usual, really like the voice, profound, very expressive and powerful.
I like the piano part, but not crazy of the other production parts, which works, but doesn't push your voice enough, again, to my opinion.

  • @icsleepers ah, good track here ! I guess my favorite of the month. Original intro, with different sounds, the voice really fits and enter right as it should be, great construction, I like it a lot.
I'm not sure that the mastering is not too pushy (really not sure) seems so compressed, it feels that there's some distorsion at some point, but maybe it's just me...(?)
One other thing I regret is the non break in it, the song is short, that's okay, repetition is good, but seems missing a part of the song. I was waiting for an harmonic break, or something a bit different at some point.

  • @moff ok here it's about a live act, a bit different organisation of a track, I like some sounds, but the production and the mix sounds a bit flat, and not very original, and it's too bad because there's a lot of good patterns, and some nice sounds, really, but chaining is a bit laborious, as the end of the track with this fade out.
It sounds more, to me, as a teaser more that a finished track. But keep on pushing it !

  • @studs1966 ah ! A funky one ! So the voice is a bit overmixed to me, as the horns.
Needs a proper mix, as all parts are nice, you've got good material, and it's a very positive house track.
That said, the track itself is not very original, and looks too much of "a chaining samples", and you feel this weakness into the structure also.
    Here again, the fade out...
So it's positive, easy listening, could be nice with a glass of champagne near the sea at the sunset, and a chit chat with a lovely lady that's all you want, and all what you get with this track, not a revolution... :)

  • @LostBoy85 ah, Mr LostBoy...I'm always circumspect with such naive track...Getting too old...That said, the production is absolutely neat, and I really appreciate the grain of your voice, the harmonies. It's like a Wham (I love Wham, don't get me wrong ! ) track of 2018.
The melody is simple but super efficient.
I just have a little "concern" with the snare, which is perfectly produced, but a bit too much there all the time.
At the same tempo, I'd try to add a bit of swing in the drum pattern, but maybe he'd kill the 80's spirit ? I don't know.

    And voilà for now !

Hey! Brilliant to hear from u again! Glad u well. Will PM u soon and catch up. Would love to hear ur thoughts on what I could do differently. Got another one I might ask for your help on too. Speak soon

  • @crony Thanks!! Yeah i'm struggling with Grand Finale a bit... I'm not a mastering guru lol, so it's tough. It's my least favorite part of the whole freakin process.

@LostBoy85 Very good! I really enjoyed this, and to be honest I didn't think too loud. Everything sat in the mix real nice I kind of drifted off while it was playing in the background, and when it stopped I went "Hey! Where did the song go" lol

Thank you for Kindness.... It’s just been signed to a Label.... So there will be more versions to do on this track..... Cheers.... ;)

Hello Darren, nice work as usual, I also love this chicks voice! Awesomeness! I’m curious how you put these tracks together? Are u playing any of the instruments? Or is it more of a case of arranging and making samples play nice together? Just curious is all. Congrats on it getting signed. 😄

Thanks very much mate! I’ll take the “Wham” compliment, I love anything from the 80’s! Nice to have u back, I look forward to hearing your jam!😄

Yeah, its a bit an old track which I can not finish because I sold Korg EMX (fool)
Here is the full version of this jam, it was intended as a remix of an old track from an old game Thunder force 3 (sega genesis)
and yes, not best production and mixing

    @Jmcmillan
Yo, I straight up downloaded this before the track even ended. I think that says enough. Admittedly I'm a sucker for orch strings. Also... You made those strings in Gadget!!!?? Wow.
    Great composition.

Thanks Leo... I used everything on this.... iOS, (there are a few synths that sound better than VST to my ears... For example, I used Heavy Brass for the Horns... Neo Soul Keys for Electric Piano...VST, & a couple of samples, into Ableton 10 suite... I use a minimum of 25 track channels normally in a track.... So that’s why I use Ableton to sequence.... iPad is not powerful enough, even when you freeze tracks.... (Scaler was my main weapon... Worked played everything off that... Once you got your chord progressions, everything else falls into place... Vocals were from Angie Brown... She use to sing on Bizarre Inc tracks, back in the day (1993)... She actually come from Clapham, in south London.... Not too far from me... ;)

  • @richardyot Nice tune! That is one I would buy and listen too again. I thought the blend of instruments was nice and really liked the syncopated percussion rhythm in the chorus.
My only gripe is I wanted the crash cymbals to stick out more. They seem hidden.

  • @crouchie I like your track. Vocals are not quite sharp...some pitchyness but I could feel the emotion of the song, so some pitchyness is a minor knock.
I loved the choice of sound for the bass ! It was great for driving the song and adding an edge to the sound.

  • @icsleepers that’s a really nice rack. Is the bass guitar sampled or played?
Love-the-vocals! Not sure your “secret sauce” for that vocal sound but it’s done really really well.

  • @studs1966 nice track! Loved the jazz brass, flute and piano. Rhythm section nicely done to compliment!

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler as usual:

Scanning the waves in the atmosphere
Frequencies swell but they’re not that clear

There’s a place where we belong
A space where we can’t come to harm
I’ve been waiting here too long
Wishing I was I your arms

Scanning the skies and the hazy air
Searching for signs that are never there

There’s a place where we belong
A space where we can’t come to harm
I’ve been waiting here too long
Wishing I was I your arms

I really like that instrumental fade out from 2 minutes! Got that lovely Helsinki pad sound (that I have to actively stop myself from putting in everything, love it!). Like the distorted verse vocal better than the chorus. I think your mix of percussion patterns also works very nicely, it’s a good bit of variation. On the vocal have u tried experimenting with some short, sharp vocal lines rather than the longer, more drawn out phrases? I don’t know if I’m making any sense, but listening to it I just wondered if that might be worth a try to mix it up a bit. It’s a really nice track though, particularly that fade out which is v nicely arranged. Well done

    P

  • @LostBoy85 Loved it! My only pick is the sound for the synth solo in the solo break. Just thought the wavering sound didn’t blend.
Your vocals are really good! And loved the 3 part harmony. Nice!

Missed last month...got a bit too busy so took me 1.5 months to finish this one. Made with Gadget and fninshed in Auria Pro with Fabfilter plugins.

That’s really nice. I take it that’s the string pack from Module? Sounds good and very well put together, and particularly nicely mixed. Well done

Alright, another one off Cellar Door (haven’t actually written anything new last month). This one I think is my favorite track off the EP (last month I posted a well received one, so I’m treating me this time:)

Like last time, 100% Gadget, Blocs Wave/Launchpad sampling and it’s been run through Grand Finale for a little top end shimmer.

Also, if anyone happens to pick up the EP from BandCamp (http://icsleepers.bandcamp.com) I’m donating 100% of the proceeds to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center still. The company I work for also does a 100% match so you best believe I’m taking advantage of that too :)

Alright, enough out of me thanks for your time folks!!

I really like that mix and the vocal is great. Not as keen on this tune as I have been on your others but is great. The percussion is really catchy. I actually don’t think it’s too compressed, it works. Doesn’t outstay it’s welcome. Very good

I was visited by nostalgic memories of Korg EMX, which was sold when I switched completely to ios
In this regard, I decided to remember my old jam and I invite you to listen to it

Korg Electribe EMX + one of the earliest versions of the Patterning app

maybe a little tight sometimes :*

Got a sort of psy-trance feel that one, like it a lot, always a big fan of Eat Static. The mix is a tiny bit flat, but I wonder if that is more to do with You Tube playback. Like it, well done

@LostBoy85 @crony Thank you for the feedback on my song! I’ve heard more mentions of strings ending abruptly so I’ll have to fix that. I think I found a few of the midi notes are shorter than others. Mad I didn’t catch that😖.

@crony can you elaborate on the ornamental drums? I’d like to improve what your hearing but not quite sure what you mean.

  • @richardyot said:
@crouchie that's a really good vocal performance, probably the best one I've heard you do, really well sung. And kudos for whacking that vocal level up so high, and for slapping some reverb on there too :)

It's quite intense track, especially towards the end where the backing vocals build up beautifully behind the main vocal (which itself is rising in intensity). It's art electronica of the highest order, great job.

Very kind Richard, like the term art-electronica, although I reckon if you went for artronica it could catch on. I always appreciate your opinion so I’m glad u liked it.

I like that very much, you mixed it really well. I mean absolutely no disrespect but I sometimes find the tunes a little over compressed but this one is just right to my (untrained) ears and is one of my favourites. The horns work brilliantly. Really good stuff
