Yeah I thought there would be a lag on the Bluetooth. No I know beats are overpriced (rather like iOS) but I just didn’t want to have one of those stupid dongles!
Ok.. may be a good thing.. (usb)..
Remains to be seen if we can use USB devices without dongles this time.
Hopefully we'll just be able to connect it to powered USB-C hub for both charging and other 'gadgets'...
There's already quite a few nice powered USB-C hubs with card-readers, ethernet, HDMI and USB-A&C ports and some even have a built-in 3.5mm jack

Probably not this year, but an iPad Pro with the ability to load both iOS AND Mac OSX is only a matter of time, imho. It’d probably be a choice to use one or the other at any particular time, with no multi-touch for the OSX portion in at least the first generation of the “desktop” iPad Pro. Apple has been doing a slow fade-out on the MacBook Air, so it seems to me that in the next two years (or maybe sooner) we will see something from Apple to complete with Surface and all the other cool desktop software capable “tablets”. That’s what I’m holding out for, anyway! Just my 2 cents. Thoughts?
But, if the overall user experience of MS Surface Pro 4 (my machine) will be the same to MacOS on a tablet, I'm not interested...
Yeah, in some cases Surface Pro is nice, but the strength is not in the tablet area though...
Why not just say “named”?
I dread a bit the price actually. If it follows the iphone trend, we might get the pro 12.9 at around 2000$.
Yeah. I had my eye on an iMac a few years back, but before I had a chance to buy, the price jumped about 40%. Partly their UK tax changes, but also a price hike.
Seems to me that not the iPads need an overhaul but the Mac Mini and the Macbook (Air). Guess Apple may come with either another Macbook xor another Macbook Air but not both.
iPad Pro 12 inch with the new amazing wonder Retina display will start shipping at unbelievable 2799€ with 256GB - one must be stupid nit to order at least one if not a second for the guest restroom 🚽
Sorry I’m a bit late but:

...
where we are all trapped trying to scape...

I want a new Mac mini...
I wouldn’t be surprised if the next generation Mac mini has no headphone or audio input jacks, no power socket, no Ethernet jack, and just one USB-3/thunderbolt 3 port, if that. You can either power it through the USB3 port, or use it for the display, or use the USB3 port for another task, but obviously not all at once.
Looking forward to seeing the specs/pricing of the new ones.
Well, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a new mac mini. As much as I’d like to see a new model they might have decided it’s not worthwhile, just like iPad mini and iPhone SE, which are all brilliant devices. Sadly Apple seem to have lost interest in the smaller and more affordable products.
Oh and I am hoping the new macbook air will be cheap, on apple standard of course, like 2500$ XD
Since I've been using my MacBook Air mainly as a stationary 'desktop'(with connected display) I'm interested in seeing if the Mac Mini will get an update.
My old MacMini is since long 'dead' (it was a 2.3Ghz QuadCore i7 with 16GB of ram) so I may even end up replacing the 'rest' of my Mac's with the Mini and when mobility is needed a new iPad might be the way to go...
(I'm starting to get 'fed up' with 'supporting' multiple machines and keeping them up-to-date).
It’s pretty simple for me.
If the new iPads have a headphone jack, I’ll order an 11 inch version and remain in the ecosystem.
If they don’t, I’ll buy a current 12.9, decked out, and that’ll be my last ever Apple purchase. I’ll make music on iOS for a couple years before moving to a tablet I can Hackintosh (they’ll have something by then, I’m sure.)
Every time you buy AirPods or a dongle to interface your perfectly working cans to Apple’s new devices, Dr. Dre thanks you. I’m good...I can’t be a billionaire if I’m supporting billionaires.
Personally I could not be more excited. Any step toward USB-C means faster data transfer and wider compatibility.
Also, the enormous bezels on the old 12.9 made me laugh for weeks before I got used to it. They are silly. Getting rid of the bezels will make the device way more portable and manageable.
No headphones will be an adjustment, but it just means that live audio production can only happen at home with the USB audio interface. Not really a problem for me. I’m not doing much mobile with such a big tablet anyway.
USB C does not mean wider compatibility, it means a new port, that is all, Lightning did USB fine, that is the most compatible interface that has ever existed, iPad supports virtually non of it, so why would USB C equal more compatibility, if anything it will be less.
Yeah, I disagree. Apple will likely make software limit the wideness of the widening, but yes it will be wider to some degree.
The most likely area is the support for external 4k monitors, if the rumors are true.
We have yet to see if/what other increased compatibility Apple will allow. I suppose it is even possible that they create a lightning standard that keeps the lightning form factor but is compatible with USB-C
The most likely scenario (based on everything that has come before) is that you will need a dongle to do what you need to do, it will be massively over priced, and the 3rd party cheaper ones will stop working at random times, exactly the same as lightning and 30pin.
Funny thing is that Apple introduced lightning interface with USB 2 in the same year that USB 3 became a standard. So Apple has been behind for many years. I love the lightning interface. It has never given me trouble. But it’s been painfully slow for data transfer. USB-C compatibility will be much better in whatever form they give it to us.
So yeah... even if it’s exactly the same dongle mess as before, at least it will be extremely fast. And if I can get one dongle for $150 that charges, does gigabit Ethernet, USB audio/midi hub, and an external 4K display... I won’t be disappointed at all.
USB-C is a common standard, and offers better interoperability with the Mac. Lightning is iOS only. Put me in the eagerly anticipating camp. I'm looking forward to replacing my OG 12.9 with one that has a slightly smaller footprint. Depending on the Pencil news I may or may not go ahead and upgrade my 10.5, too.
I think we'll have to wait until iOS13 or something to get 'proper' USB-C support.
(ie. integrated Mass-Storage support in Files.app for starters).
It's really insanity that we need to use a computer to transfer audio-files from a field-recorder(SD-Card or USB-Port) to the iPad not to mention missing usb-flash storage support...(cards & memory-sticks etc.).
It's more like sh*tty Apple Politics since full mass-storage support has been there in every single Jail-Break so far.
Being able to do 'local backups' to a mass-storage device is something that should already be in place...
Having to rely on shaky cloud-solutions(iCloud is a pretty sh*tty service to be honest) for backups and storage is just meh especially if privacy is important...
But still my eyes are not getting better and hardware is getting old so I'm still interested in seeing what Apple Cooks up this time...
What’s needed is to dump all the computers and instead market various processor dongles, ram dongles, storage dongles, power dongles and dongle io dongles.
9 days. Looking forward to it. I feel I'm almost at a point where these new announcements are decision days. Even if they're disappointing in and of themselves (as is often seems the way), they allow us to move on with Plan B etc.
Yepp, that's the way I seem them as well
So far I've been able to resist new purchases for quite some time.
I looked at replacing my iPhone 5 when the iPhone 7 was launched but got 'bummed' about the missing 3.5mm jack. My Air 2 has been with me and been very good even though battery capacity is starting to go down.
The MacBook Air(Mid 2013) is still doing it's tasks more than well for what I need it for...
The iPhone Xr is a 'candidate' for a new phone and a new MacMini could most likely replace my MacBook Air since i've been using it as a 'desktop' with a largish monitor due to my degrading eye-sight. I somehow feel my eyes would be 'happy' with a 12,9" iPad Pro...
But yeah, depending on what's coming I might as well stay with stuff I have as it still delivers what I need
