It's more like sh*tty Apple Politics since full mass-storage support has been there in every single Jail-Break so far.

I stopped following jail-break because I thought it's no longer an option.
Last time I remember being able to mount external hard drive with iFile was iOS7.
Can you point me where I can learn more about this please?

As far as I know the mass-storage support is enabled in all jail-breaks.
Currently only my old 1st gen iPad Mini is Jailbroken. It's running iOS9.3.5(final version for the device) and I can easily use Flash Drives and HD's on it using the standard Apple Lightning->USB dongle.

Don't know if there are any public jailbreaks available for iOS12...
(iOS12.1 will most likely drop on the 30th together with the new iPads).

9 days. Looking forward to it. I feel I'm almost at a point where these new announcements are decision days. Even if they're disappointing in and of themselves (as is often seems the way), they allow us to move on with Plan B etc.

Yepp, that's the way I seem them as well :)
So far I've been able to resist new purchases for quite some time.

I looked at replacing my iPhone 5 when the iPhone 7 was launched but got 'bummed' about the missing 3.5mm jack. My Air 2 has been with me and been very good even though battery capacity is starting to go down.
The MacBook Air(Mid 2013) is still doing it's tasks more than well for what I need it for...

The iPhone Xr is a 'candidate' for a new phone and a new MacMini could most likely replace my MacBook Air since i've been using it as a 'desktop' with a largish monitor due to my degrading eye-sight. I somehow feel my eyes would be 'happy' with a 12,9" iPad Pro...

But yeah, depending on what's coming I might as well stay with stuff I have as it still delivers what I need :)

Looking at the Mini too, as I’m also using my old MacBook as a desktop, and would like to give the battery a break.

Powerful Mini or updated iMac, could replace my old Dell desktop if they don’t go mad with the prices, though might be a good idea to do it now anyway with UK Brexit madness looming.

Doubt I’ll be able to justify a new iPad as the Air 2 is hanging on by its fingertips, but look forward to seeing what they come up with.

When you connect your drive with cck, which app do you use to see the content of the drive? What options do you have? Import/export different type of files?

Can you move files from your iPad to the drive?
My goal would be to move audio loops to my Octatrack.

When needed I use the original 'iFiles.app'(not the Apple one but the one available thru Cydia) and I can browse all the files on the connected card or hard-drive. Since the iOS device is jailbroken I can move/copy to to any place I like without restrictions.(My 1st Gen iPad Mini is sluggish so I seldom use it).

Can you move files from your iPad to the drive?

Yes, bi-directional file transfer is possible.

My goal would be to move audio loops to my Octatrack.

I don't have an Octatrack but if it behaves like a generic mass-storage device when connected it should work.

Mildly put, this is the way I feel iOS should handle externally connected storage devices and that's why I wish iOS13(or even iOS12.1) would allow transparent access to connected mass-storage devices.

You just made my day! Thanks a lot!
Looks like my mini2 is getting jb treatment.

Agreed, hopefully Files app will get there soon. This is the first thing I try after every update, even if accidentally enabled.

Unless you manually enable ssh log-in there is no way to remotely log-in to the device :)
If you do enable ssh log-in they recommend you to change the password...

Remember it's the people who create the jail-breaks who actually help Apple to secure their product, they are just 'one step ahead' :D

Not about ssh, more about conveniently placed payloads delivered with impunity in the jb

Cracks <~ [pun intended] me up how people trust the underground hackers more than the aboveground ones lol.

Well, Apple seems to trust some of the jailbreak developers enough to actually hire them ;)

Most of the 'tweaks' come with source-code for those who are extra paranoid to boot...
(Meaning one can compile the apps on their own machine and install them when needed).

What really p*sses me off is that Apple _intentionally_ blocks certain features related to storage and pushes a sub-par cloud implementation as the 'preferred solution'.

Apples own mass storage driver limits the access to DCIM folders for Photos & Video.
The Jailbreak removes/modifies that 'filter' and lets the user access the full content on the device...
...meaning once the 'filter' is removed just about any iOS Filebrowser can be used to browse all the content.

But yeah, I'll see what iOS13 brings if it's even called iOS13 as 13 means bad luck :D

Totally understand your point and agree. The reason why Apple won't allow this is because it makes side loading of apps possible. So I don't see this possibilty implemented.

It's already possible to 'side load' apps with XCode installed on a Mac :)
(Ie. downloaded the sources and do a local compile and install on the device).

Another way is to install 'certificates' on the device that will allow downloading and installing apps from other sources without the need to do a jail-break.

Many companies use the certificates to deploy custom software on devices that for one reason or another can not be distributed via the AppStore.(I know at least a couple of developers who use certificates for app deployment outside of the AppStore)

Even with full mass-storage support the downloaded apps would still need to be properly singed before they could be used on the device.

In short this is more a 'problem' caused by policies rather than technical issues...

Yup so that that means ALL the jb are golden.

I just first hand saw enough ‘clever’ university students get royally hosed from from jb’ing but couldn’t dare admit it to their peers. All kinds of buggy **s s*** going on with their devices 😇😂😇

  • I want a new iPad Pro with a big standard jack plug hole, not the puny 3,5mm, I want to plug the guitar straight into it. I know Tim Cook will hear my prayers, because I prayed holding a dongle in my hand, using the Dongle-Bible for scripture..

After 36 years, buying all kind of computer stuff, I want a bigger iPad...
Really big! Why not an 17” iPad Pro with 16GB RAM and a 1TB M2-SSD disc?
Or, why not an iMac Touch 17”?
Comeon Apple, innovate for god sake!!!

  • Yeah. Add UTP too please. What's Pro about a slow WiFI connection?

I'm just excited for Intua coming on stage to show off the new version of BM3.

The invitation tagline ("There´s more in the making") clearly hints at a focus on the iDevice as a creative tool. The various artistic logos add to that, so expect a new pen.

The event will be held in Brookly Academy of Music, so may we hope for a focus on music apps, please?

The latest tweet from mathieugarcia suggests he is in NY around that time, so yeah, bring Intua and 3.1 on stage!

Ha, this may be the closest thing to a true rumor in this thread.

  • The fact it's held in an academy of music is surely not coincidental.

  • The "handwriting" on the invitation would seem to also confirm the Pencil 2 rumors, which makes sense if the Lightning connector is getting replaced with USB-C. I hope the P2 has a macro button or two.

I thought it was a luxury (gift) purchase at the time, but I like the Apple pencil, I really do, however I'm won't be buying another one until this one's worn down to the very nub.

  • Yeah, I'm just hoping it's a worthwhile upgrade and not just about making it compatible with the new iPads. "Luckily" I have an upgrade pipeline and my older son would love to get ahold of my Pro and Pencil. When I got my 10.5 he got my Air 2. I bought the Adonit Pixel for him, and it's nice, but not as well integrated as the Pencil.

Weird reverse enabling symbiosis, well done.

  • With the effected random versions of the Apple logo, my guess is that they will be trumpeting hard about Photoshop on iOS. Between that and a new model of pencil, artworking will be the theme.

Yeah, it's raised my hopes. I'm not too bothered about a version of Logic yet but a big update of Garageband would be lovely.
