What if you aren't so interested with app routing, but are mostly doing hardware modular synthesis and need a very low cpu, flexible host? I don't own either AB3 or AUM (I do own Cubasis and Beatmaker).

I wasted my money on these routing apps. If you're mostly hardware there is very little reason to use them. BM3 is far superior to both IMO.

Care to share your BM3 settings and how do you use it to sequence external gear?

If you're using MIDI devices that don't sync to analog it won't work.

But I am converting MIDI automation into analog clock signals. This is far superior timing to anything except innerclock or expert sleepers.

    The automation looks like this:

What do you use as converter?

MIDI channel B on my Make Noise O Coast.

Nice one. Will try it after the update. Also cool that you can alter the pattern to your liking for 0C random generator. Just need to find something to convert it back to midi clock for the rest of my synths. Hopefully Korg SQ-1 can do that, if not than MIDI Link Sync remains the midi clock.
    Thanks!

Yeah. Also you can use both CV and Gate outputs at once for 2 channels of clock.

So you can do all kinds of interesting rhythms. Damnit I'm giving away my secrets haha.

I'll probably use it as modwheel automation to cv / note or velocity to gate.

    AUM

  • Okay so some good answers on the question of whether AUM or Audiobus is better for hardware modular. Sounds like I don't need either so far. One thing though. I am an Audulus user. Audulus killed my desire for iOS music apps about a year ago, like an antidote. I got off that train, started getting into programming in Audulus, but that soon turned into putting together a modular.

Both are awesome but AUM was the app that really brought everything together in a meaningful way for me. It was like the holy grail. I honestly haven’t used AB since I got AUM and haven’t run into a situation where I needed it.

Same, started on AB but switched to AUM, its recording capabilities are perfect for my workflow. Its pretty much replaced Auria Pro for me as well. I jam my loops with various synths in AUM then send the audio to my Mac for finishing in Ableton. I have AB3 just in case but not sure what I need it for at this time.

Btw. are there other apps that store their audio in AudioShare? I love how its all there instead of duplicated in the various apps.

Afaik it's only possible because both apps come from the same dev, so their doc folder can be shared. Otherwise apps can only write to their own doc folder.

I think you have to get AB3 to support the developer for:

    1. creating the essential standard that made IOS Music work and develop a real market of choices that could inter-operate.
    2. supporting and monitoring the best IOS forum available.

If you use Korg Module or Gadget you're going to want AB
    4.

These APP's don't show up in AUM and I'd expect there are more older apps that are coded to use AudioBus but didn't follow Apple's IAA or AU interfaces.

Overtime they will likely continue to add the features that the other has... like AB adding recording/playback.

I have both and typically spin up AUM as a simple way to create multi-APP layered sounds and for hitting record to capture an improvisation. So, both are must haves but budget limited I'd start with AB3.

Hmmm... Both Korg Gadget & Module show up in AUM for me...?
    Or, have I missed something?
    What do you mean?

I seem to recall having apps, Auria among them, that will have AudioShare in the “send to” function when exporting.... can’t search apps right now.....

  • Both!

    None in fact

DIsclaimer: I know, this is the Audiobus forum and maybe my question is a litte bit unfair o:)

I'm still using Audiobus 2. My question is: Audiobus 3 or AUM? As far as I understand, both apps are now very similar. Are there significant differences I should know?

    You joined in 2013.

    Just asking this now?

    LOL

    Bro.

    Are you ok?

  • @klangsulfat
If you haven't reached a limitation with what you want to do on AB2, then stay there and create with what you have. If you have reached the ceiling then it would be a natural progression to AB3.
AUM, however, opens other possibilities with routing, and although AB3.1 has new audio stuff and there's an update for midi learn on the way that may even the playing field for a while, AUM still offers deeper control that and macros capabilities that works like no other when you are doing improv jams
To me AB3 is one thing and AUM is another but AB3+AUM is a totally different ball game of possibilities.
