I suspect that poison is not for me – not a big fan of Prodigy or 90s techno. but there are only so many concrete ways to think Jim Pavlov for GR-16. (Which, by the way, if you do not own, you must!)
    So I’ll pick it up.

As for the other apps: Envolver and Transient look...complicated? Are they? The chorus is nice.

So, you're still making progress/tunes with GR?

  • My FAC Bundle is showing as $12.99 and the only app I'm missing is FAC Envolver, which is $9.99. Is this one of those things where the bundle is more because I may have bought some things on sale, or is it just not giving me the actual price until I agree to purchase it? Confusing...

I am. It is crazy and does everything. I’m making really odd little ambient sketches. And the parameter locks are Digitakt-worthy. It’s amazing.

I would just say pick an oscillator, put in a bunch of steps and record the automation.

The most amazing thing is actually that I watched Doug’s video on how to use Envolver and thought, Oh, that’ll be useful. (Followed his link to the app store and bought; does he get any of that these days?)

It has presets. You should give another try. Just route midi to it in AUM and then send it on to a synth for starters.

    Think in looped patterns.
Use TRIGGER to play drums and select instruments.
    Use KEYS to play melodies.
Hit EDIT to correct, fine-adjust and add precise automations per step.

Yes. I’m glossing over the core of the app. TRIGGER on means each pad is a different sound. Select a pad in trigger mode, switch to KEYS and you play that sound. SEQ, of course, is the step sequencer for whatever sound (trigger) you have selected. SLICE? I don’t even know what that does, and I’m still having a blast.

The only slightly nonintuitive part was creating new patterns. For me, the way I built our new patterns was to get a four-bar sequence going. Then hold SHIFT+WRITE and select SAVE TO NEW. You can clear out the notes using ERASE. You can change every sound in the new pattern even.

And this app is so well conceived that everything you might wish for is in there already. Chaining patterns? Sure. Per-step probability? Yep. Stem export? Obvs. It has Ableton Live set export.

And a hat tip to @gonekrazy3000 for pointing out that there are scores of presets just quietly hiding under the preset tab (upper right) when you select the WAVE.

    It’s miraculous.

  • I've been toying with getting another FAC AUv3 (I bought Chorus quite awhile back for $9)... so I bought all the rest of them - for a total of $9. VERY nice - thank you!

Regarding FacEnvolver there are plenty of videos about it. It requires indeed to wire some CC MIDI stuffs but there is also a noise gate and a trigger gate if you are in the instant result mood. As mentioned earlier you have to go along with the presets.

Yesterday Jason from iPadLoops did a very good video

I also provide a dedicated playlist about Fac Envolver here:

Go to [ENTER] > Part > Automation:
and switch between "Smooth" and "Stepped" to change how values change from value to value.

You can run your pattern with the record on, and any button you move is recorded. But you can also hit EDIT and adjust various step-by-step parameters — pitch, note length, stroke and all kinds of probability. The oscillator, filter, modulation and effects knobs are also tweakable per step — these you just move while you're in EDIT mode.

Wow. I just completed the FAC bundle for $3.00. I only previously owned Envolver. This is great.

  • SynthDrum Kick by DesignByPaul is 50% off.

  • Just picked up Grooverider and really liking it so far, will need to read the manual but have some nice things going already, does it have multiple audio outputs for recording jams and then mixing further in a daw?

  • Some of these videos remind me of this :)
