  • Ho hum - I’ve always been a fan of real sounding drums rather than synthetic ones. But any updates are appreciated.

It doesn’t show up as a GB update.
Open GB, add a Drums track, select More Sounds, and download the new drums from the Store. I guess it’s a Store, even though everything is free.

These are going to be fun to use in the Beat Sequencer. :)

    Thank you.

Followed this to the word ... can't see a "store" tab !!??

When you create a song or add a track, go to this tab:

Then you will be able to see those packs and download them

  • Not used GB in a long time.

How easy is it to use GB just to export drum tracks to other apps? Can you export midi and audio tracks from GB?

Not easily. No stems export, and no official MIDI export. There's workarounds but they're pretty tedious.

For stems you can solo and mixdown tracks, for MIDI I use the RouteMidi as an AU to send the MIDI out of GB.

Exporting Audio is easy. Just select the project and share as audio.
The midi file is usually inside the project bundle, export it to audio-share and dig it out from the folder structure :)
(This since Files.app can NOT browse inside bundles but AudioShare can).

Don’t click on more sounds in drum, but just swipe tabs where you have all instruments (drums, strings, bass, drummer, etc), it is between keyboards and Audio units / IAA tabs. You have to download it here first to see it drums sounds.

I doubt it .. Why would they give you the real sauce on a free app?

Apple have a history of giving proper full apps away with their computers and tablets. I don't believe there's a wicked conspiracy behind features being left out of Garageband.

That’s odd, I’ve downloaded them on my iPhone 7 Plus no issues. Perhaps those ones are only for latest GB update and iOS12...

  • Logic pro alchemy is superior to the old camel audio one, less cpu usage, way more spectral filter power, import exs, and drag and drop samples

Whoever said alchemy doesnt import samples in logic is incorrect. Its easier now than it ever was.

  • Alchemy is poised to replace the exs perhaps?!

Thanks for the tip. I am not seeing a MIDI file anywhere in the folder structure. The project consists of Drummer and Keyboard and Strings tracks. Are you sure there is a MIDI file in there somewhere?

It used to be?! Usually I dump the file over to Logic when a *.mid file is needed.
Most of the time I just need the Audio and for that I can keep it all on the iPad.

  • FWIW, I am using GB in 11.4.1

Use Save to Files, and in the browser you can save to the AudioShare area.
I can’t find a Midi file, either, though.

So where does Apple draw the line for what qualifies as "real sauce" or not? GarageBand on both desktop and iOS is loaded with pro-level features, or features that a few years ago cost hundreds of dollars. For thousands of music-makers, GB already offers a free alternative to Logic. If Apple was that concerned about how GB impacts sales of Logic, they wouldn't be giving it away for free to begin with.

The difference between Logic and GB looks to have more to do with what Apple feels is most accessible---best understood and easy to use---for the beginner or less tech-savvy user. GB on iOS has always been geared towards that market because the market is mostly beginners and non-professionals. They've over time added features like AUv3, but why should they be in any big rush to implement all the more sophisticated capabilities that would complicate the program and most users would never use? If and when they do implement more, like the cool things they've added in the past, I doubt it'll have anything to do with GB being free or not.

Virtual Aretha, type in the words, draw some swoopy lines, out come the vocals.

Audience simulator, settings from "loving it" to "downright hostile".

I’ve got a recording of an old band I was in. We only did one gig - turned up to find we weren’t the support after all but the main item, a bass player we’d never met in drag with an inflated condom tied to his bass, no drummer, and all feeling very disconnected after a week away in a bus with no food, no sleep, and only acid for breakfast. We played Hawkwind’s ‘Master of the Universe’ seven times until we were bottled off. Great recorded audience chants of “fuck off - fuck off - fuck off etc.” I can sample it if you fancy.

  • The new kits are sweet, but are also all the first kits I’ve already created in every host and sampling app I have. For some reason I just can’t get myself to stick with GarageBand for more than a short time. Very illogical, and something that bugs me about myself.

The soloing trick to get one track out at a time is not as tedious as it would seem.

I use GB religously to start ideas, then get them out before I hit the limitations. I'm not sure why but once you get the individual tracks out of GB they seem to sound better in a different DAW.

I’m into that sometimes as well,as GB seems to write down ideas better than the others.

Dry tracks and overall sound in GB seems better because it “secretly”uses Logic’s Limiter in every project you create.Just like FL in computers.Thats also why tracks on GB never“clip”,instead they tend to do the typical limiter reduction effect when you set the channel values too high.
So when you export a stem in GB,you also apply a limiter to it as well and it always sounds louder vs other DAW’s.

It makes a difference and you can actually see it if you load a GB project into LogicX.Your master channel will always have an active limiter.

I’m simply saying that potentially you’re more “apt’ (see what I did there?) ” to get more pro level features on orphan apps that have no big brother per se such as Stagelight and NS2...

I'm saying it probably has nothing to do with Logic or because GB is free. Apple has a vision for GarageBand, which includes certain pro-level features and not others. Devs of Stagelight and NS2 have a different vision for their apps, designed for more tech-savvy users, but also limited in ways because no app covers everything.

See, I thought you would have shared the time you played a gig with Aretha during her skinhead phase..

First, hastily arranged performance after Strawb's Last Bus Home disbanded on stage (which they did every time), some dive of a club in Epping, one dirge that I had made, half another punk band and my best mate trying to ad-lib through it. Looked up from my guitar to see a line of skins kicking their legs up like an end of the pier dance troupe while simultaneously zieg heiling us along to the racket, total chaos. No recordings exist, which is a relief.
