  • don't know if this is 'funky' in the intended meaning, but it's House just the way I like it ..

    Breach ft. Kelis The Key

  • is it the funkiest house you've ever heard?

now we're talking, I should have asked that moodymann be the base starting level.

what about something leaning towards a lower tempo and funkier!!!?

  • @kobamoto honestly, from the couple of tracks you posted, you might like this funky cosmic disco / house mix I did a while ago: https://m.mixcloud.com/gusgranite/gg0027/

Lots of good stuff so far!

This Andy Stott track might be the most deceptively funky minimal house for me:

Caught my ear at first because of the tasteful off quantize madness drifting in and out throughout. (That kid playing the bass you posted has so much of that!) But what really gets me is how the track keeps building and releasing tension around that lock on the 1 feel, by pitting it against house-like off beat emphasis.

  • I’m more of a techno guy but I’m in Chicago and have a lot of love for house. My favorite local dj is Derrick Carter.

@rezidue I met Derrick Carter many years ago. He’s a friend of an old friend. What a rare soul he is. Amazing entertainer as well. He actually gave me some words of advice that I have never forgotten. Truly funky!

  • that clip played at speed 0.5 sounds dope

Lol. There’s so many definitions of funky... post up some of your choices and give us the vibe you’re after. I’m enjoying this! 😎

yeah for sure there are so many flavors , I suppose I'm on a fishing expedition to find out the funkiest stuff that you guys have ever heard so's I can learn me somethin at the same time as basically looking for music that's at least funkier than moodymann.. I don't know a whole lot about these genres so I'm gettin some edumacation. Moodymann is a good reference point right now, but funkier.

Then may I suggest to listen to pressureradio.com... You can get there app on the App Store.. Andy Ward play great Funky House...

loooove those hi-hats and claps... This track never gets old..

    Deepswing - In The Music

Great choice. Erik Wikman (Deep Swing) knows his stuff.. May I suggest if you like “Deep Swing”, then try listening to the “Audio Whores” early stuff...They were On the same wavelength... Or “Copyright” & “Full Intention” early stuff from 2000... Also, “Knee Deep”/“Grant Nelson”/“Tony Humphries”/“Richard Earnshaw”/“Kings of Tomorrow”/“DJ Soen” also, even Jamiaqui?....

There’s so much. I’ve worked at a few record stores here in LA before Amoeba came to town and got a chance to be the electronic music buyer before the computer ordering age. Working with distributors. There’s a lot. Try the now defunct, Clear recordings out of the UK. The goods. Contemporary stuff I’ve been into in the last Years is pretty dancey but intelligent and super messed up in a good way. Very minimal. Try the YouTube channel,
    https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCfHJRUpF8FlM4FQ0zUtZIMA/featured
This is really good stuff. The majority of the music is from, Romania. I love German electronic stuff like Air Liquide and all associated. Jamming unit, Walker, Khan, Mike inc. the list is forever. That’s the original messed up analog freak stuff. Smart. There’s just so much. Have you ever heard this on the Clear label? It’s the most mainstream releases back then. Maybe like 1000 copies pressed but insane both sides. What about global goon on Richard James, Reflex label? Early Richard H. Kirk? Clatterbox? Space Pimp? Schematics label, Push Button Objects? There’s so damn much. Maybe this will help? This is kinda the more roots stuff and I’m telling you there a ton more.
    Duddddde! THIS!

Atom Heart and Burnt Friedman. Unbelievable..
If you like funky electronic stuff try this when it comes out.

Metamatics & Nyquist. Insane. Metamatics, aka, Norken, Clatterbox. Highly recommended.

    Nice post! Which Clear record?

    Cheers!

I think you can drag the playhead back in the app or browser? No rewind via CarPlay though which bugs me.

  • How about this Villalobos track:

Funk bass sample on an experimental house ride. Most funky part is from 5 min on, but the whole track explores so many funk/house directions.

dont listen to house much anymore but here are some producers i like:
    Frankie Knuckles
    Kerri Chandler
    Move D
    Adriatique
    Mr Fingers
    Phuture
    Ron Hardy
    Robert Owens
    Derrick Carter
    Adonis
    Marshall Jefferson

    That’s the “A” list!

Not helpful, I'm sure, since I don't listen to house music, but one of my favorite minimal, funky tracks is by Chris Randall (then as Sister Machine Gun, now as Audio Damage). It inspired one of my more recent tracks - nowhere near as good as THIS - where I added funk guitar and horns. :)

  • Someone mentioned Move D. Up there. His name is David Molfgang and I most definitely approve. He started in the 80’s doing very intelligent techno on his own label, Source Records. Good shit for sure. But this, one of his aliases, The Deep Space Network is reaaaaalllllllll good. His sound these days goes from great true house but not so cliche being that he’s a fantastic, payed his dues in all forms of electronic music. I like him a lot. This project, The Higher Intelligence Agency meets The Deep Space Network on the Source imprint is........ dude I used to play this out a lot. Other DJ’s always trying to trainspot tracks back then in the 90’s LA scene. DJ Politics. That’s a great record. He actually does some stuff in collaboration with a bunch of those guys from Romania, UFO BEATS distribution I pointed you in. So if you ever need any info about records in the electronic, like the goods, I got ya. I love talking about this stuff as I love really good dance, experimental, idm, you know the good stuff. Everyone has their personal taste but some artists are a little different if you know what I’m saying? Sure I like the orthodox roots stuff from Red Planet to Metroplex, to B12, to The Black Dog, etc, etc. But there’s some incredible and proper stuff out there that people just do not have the resources to get ahold of. I think everyone should get turned on to new stuff. Did you like that Flanger track I sent? They’re amazing. Check out Burnt Friedmanns stuff on his label, Urban Non Place. You like funky? Dude. I’m going to send you something right not that when I first heard on a good system blew all my previous ideas out the window, reset musical taste. I love that there always something that will blow us away and push our perspective in good and forward direction. This.

@kobamoto This is one of Atom Hearts side projects
Maybe you’ve heard of him? Some of these particular releases are unbelievable.

    Holy crap!!!

  • very good music man, I was familiar with burnt Friedman a bit from his collabs with the drummer from can but had no idea how much work he's put in, coincidentally because of this thread I was shocked to find out that cans drummer died 2017.... anyways thank you, I wonder how atom heart classifies his stuff, if he does.

I don’t know about genres, but this is probably my favorite (funkiest, makes-me-wanna-dance) funk tune ever:
