Mr Korg Davis what’s the planned release date on these new gadgets?

I am curious too. :) At least, an approximate release date.

It will be soon. Somewhere in between ordinary soon and quite soon... but not as soon as you would like..... just by a little bit.... not a lot ... but just enough to be slightly annoying.

Agreed. I am also due to go away, it will inevitably be then. And that's pretty soon now.

No AU no interest, if it was AU and supported Mac and Windows, I would buy them all in a heartbeat.

    Same for me

Electribe has a better sequencer... Easily copy and paste scenes/patterns, song mode. I won't use Gadget much (I own it) until they improve the sequencer.

This is absolutely true. In fact every aspect of the Electribe Wave interface out performs the one used in gadget. When I read new interface for gadget I hope/pray that it will be designed to be just like the Electribe Wave. I love sequencing in Electribe Wave.

I think there is a specific set of users who are expecting a lot from the new midi external out such as midi record back in and so forth.

I don't believe that is the point of this new gadget. Simply put, the new Gadget is just for controlling other synths either in you AUM or AB3, Cubasis or Stagelight and maybe some hardware synths. That
s it, that's all it would be. Your gadget becomes home base to run all of your apps including Gadget. This is the perfect situation for live performances when including gadget with the rest of your set up.

My only specific hope with this new gadget is that through native mode you could use your NanoKey Studio to control the midi gadget and thus control your other apps in AUM. Basically this midi gadget acts as a midi control bridge to your other apps in host and DAWs.

It is not my believe that with the addition of the new midi control we should be expecting GAdget to become a true DAW. I think there would need to be a whole lot of other things needed to be added to Gadget.

My expectations is that the new midi out gadget is simply a midi controller to control your hosted apps and that's it...simple. My additional hope is that this also becomes a midi bridge for NanoKey Studio.

I hadn't thought much about this, for some reason, I immediately equated this to just controlling external hardware... but if it even can be routed to other apps only and doesn't do any kind of midi loopback or whatever, I think that's pretty cool and would be enough to at least help leverage other apps. Right now, you'd really need to either sequence things using another app, or internal sequencing available in whatever app you want to record, and at best you'd have them synced via Link. This opens up a whole new possibility for sequencing and recording any other app to drop that output back into Gadget.

Fair to say a lot of people probably don't live inside Gadget only, but for those of us who do or might like to, this would be a tolerable workflow (or at least better than it is now)

I think it is aimed at hardware and keeping you inside Gadget...The MIDI OUT gadget coincides with an update to the main app...which we are told has a revised main screen that gives a 'full view' of the track...
When I start something in Gagdet, I leave when I want to start making a full arrangement, and/or when I want to use my external hardware...
It is possible with the current version to create audio in other apps and play it back using Zurich...or sequence alongside using Link...so I don't see that all the effort they will have put in for this will be primarily about using other apps with gadget, but that may happen as a side-effect.

"I think it is aimed at hardware and keeping you inside Gadget..."

That would be a very STUPID decision. Besides wouldn't mean that Korg have to Nerf/neuter/block midi control to ios/app midi? It makes no sense to make this midi out gadget ONLY for hardware.

I'm expecting that this is for ALL midi, whether apps inside your host or for external hardware. Let's be real here, Korg has a whole host of apps that have no gadgets to them, wouldn't it make more sense to give those who live inside gadget to get Electribe Wave or DS-10? Anyhow. Let's just hope this midi feature is for both ios apps and hardware. Hardware only would just be plain DUMB!

Yes I agree...what I was saying is the the reason they are giving MIDI OUT is for hardware and that using it for apps will be a side effect not an intention so don’t expect app hosting or app audio inputs.

  • @SMKArtist it didnt say new interface it said brushed up interface. i expect it will look a bit cleaner but not a complete redesign or new sequencer.

Oh God, no...App hosting or app audio inputs, lol lol lol. I don't see that in the future at all.

What I see is me diving back into gadget for live performances to control all of my other apps hosted in AUM or AB3.

  • Maybe we wait until it drops before we get mad at the features that may or may not be neglected/bungled? With the exception of the introduction of Stockholm, I can't recall a Gadget update that wasn't largely terrific.

But if we don’t make sure it stays on the first two pages of the Audiobus Forum it might fade away then disappear for ever and ever...... then we’ll never see it ☹️

They said not at this time for Windows when it first came to Mac... Now it’s happening on Windows... I think they will eventually?... Just be a little patient, like have had for the Windows Version.. At least I can still use it on iOS. Well not for long... My battery is naff now on my Air1... Had to use hair dryer in it to restart to charging again... Couldnt get it to charge.. Always stayed in the red icon for battery needs charging mode...

Gadget isn't perfect, but it works so well and lets you do so much! I'm excited to see what is next

  • I was playing around more last night pulling in a loop from Blocs Wave and completely bashing the shit out of it in Abu Dhabi, the sequencer still isn't my favorite but when I just resigned myself to submitting to it, it became more productive.

Have been re-investigating Gadget as a standalone here too. Very quick getting stuff recorded, no interruption to the flow...and what I noticed most......it just works...no WTF ? moments....

  • I’d of never guessed people like Electribe interface better than gadgets. You can copy things just as easy..😎. I hope we get a higher note resolution in gadget 2 1/64 is just still so big for some automations I go for and id just love to trigger notes at 1/128 or 1/256. But I’m not counting on It 😆

  • Anybody with Korg hardware....do they use hi res cc’s or NRPN’s? Just wondering if these are likely to be part of midi out.

My air2 sometimes does this when battery goes to 0% and i try to charge it. However this only occurs if i charge it through the cck3 usb + charge dongle

I don't know what hi res CCs are, but the MIDI implementation at least of the #logue Synths is receiving just regular 7bit CCs. Internally they use 10bit resolution for most parameters. AFAIK there is no controller software made by KORG that would allow for higher res editing than standard 7bit MIDI. The librarian software is just that. Not for editing but for managing your patch data. I have already requested dedicated MIDI gadgets for current KORG hardware like #logues and Volcas. I would think this would turn Gadget into a complete KORG ecosystem and would be actually pretty cool. I mean, buy a KORG synth and get the gadget for it for free. Would push Gadget sales a bit I guess :)

  • I have been holding my head out of the window upstairs- but my antenna don't seem to be twitching. I also have a feeling in my water- something akin to rancid milk. I don’t think it’s on its way any time soon..... I’m betting it’s later in March.

When I first got Gadget, at the time I really only knew desktop apps, and I was immediately making a list of it can't do this, and why not that, and WTF? I got over that quick enough. Adjust expectations and just see what it can do well. I've used it many times since.

  • Dude it’s only February 4. There are [casts mischievous glance at camera 2] twenty-five days left in the month!

Hi res cc’s are 14bit.....thanks for the info.....yes I’ve had the same thoughts about MIDI Gadgets, but not as Gadgets, but AU MIDI FX, for Korg, Gadgets make sense, but for everyone else AU is a better bet.
