what’s not to love in the Korg Electribe Wave?
Seems like the sequencer is quite fast to deal with. Are there any real showstoppers in your books? Would you recommend using a midi keyboard?

it just doesnt click with me. its also one dimensional in that it caters almost strictly to dance music which bores me over time. the sequencer is fluid for what its worth and the drums are tight with precise eqing. im not a big fan of the synth engine but its not bad. i also despise the colour scheme but thats just nitpicking. its fun and thats important but doesnt keep me interested long term.
@echoopera has created quite a bit of music with KEW that is definitely not dance music. Some people really vibe with KEW and some don't.
There seems to be a wide range of opinions from people.
I liked it at first, but then drifted away after a few weeks. Haven’t used it since.
That’s just me though - I like the synths but the workflow puts me off.
No count-in, no immediate undo. Both of those make everything take far longer than it should.

i bought GR in a hurry but can‘t stand the sound nor the sequencer. ymmv
The synth is neat but the effects and even routing are a bit too limited, the sideways sunvox style of daw entry doesn’t click with me either 😎 if it was auv3 proper or a gadget gadget now that’d be something
The Channel 10 (input) dedicated to drums is epic.. If only we had it in GR-16...🤓
I bought in at the iELECTRIBE and it was a peaky disappointment. Cannot imagine dropping 30$ on Wave just yet without some fixes and updates.
There was a fairly major update that included user sample support and a number of other new features as well as the option to purchase two new sets of wavetables.
Agree about AU. I think it's fun and capable, but has ended up in the things that do things but mostly not things you want to do folder.
Hate the sequencer. No way to easily shift notes to a different beat for starters. Difficult to use tiny note length control. No pattern shift L/R. No step copy. No copy / paste between pattern sets etc...
But I still like KEW quite a bit.

These are the kinds of improvements it would be nice to see in KEW.
Having said that, Korg Electribe Wave is my second most used music app, the first most being gadget. I’m an enormous fan of the wavetabling way. One mistake I keep making is plonking a sequence in on record, and then tweaking a parameter or two without realising I’m still on record, and the params are now animated.
Had it been released pre AUV3, I would have bought it already, I have just about every other Korg app and iap's. Im sure its great but I already have a ton of great apps I hardly or never use anymore because my workflow has gravitated to AUV3 apps inside IOS Daws. I do use gadget though.
KEW for me is a vast improvement on Gadget all in, at 1/20 the price. But still the best argument for its capabilities is the @echoopera KEW’d portfolio
KEW is one in a long line of Krazy Kool Korg boxes.
From what I was reading after release the time signature support isn’t there at all. That stops the show for me. I like GR-16 though and that doesn’t have it either, unless you like 8 bars repeat or export your patterns and chop off the extra added beats later.
I don’t get it either. Who wants to be limited to straight 4/4?

Huh? You can set the number of steps per part in GR-16 and you can set the number of steps per pattern in KEW. You should be able to make any time signature you want with that and and tempo. GR-16 lets you set the time division to triplets too.
Can you chain them in KEW? Because you cannot chain them in GR-16. It forces it to the rhythm base. When I was reading the KEW manual it has something exactly the same as the rhythm base. So, in GR-16 if you go for 8 bars at 14 steps when you try to chain them it just repeats it for an extra 16 steps before chaining to the next pattern and it’s completely messed up. It won’t chain out of compliance with the rhythm base.
Ahh. Interesting. Never tried song mode with shorter patterns.
I wonder if it makes any difference if you change all of the parts to a shorter length, or if you only change some of them.
Everytime I’ve done it all 16 parts were the same length. I think you probably have to set them all the same to get them to go even just on an 8 bar loop without chaining because otherwise I would have saved myself the work of manually setting all 16 parts step length. I had a few preset templates where they were already set to make it quicker. I haven’t been using GR-16 that much lately though.

I bought iElectribe when it came out. I quite like it. I think copying the hardware so closely is a misstep, as it definitely makes it harder to use than it needs to be but I like the noises it can make. I was disappointed when they made the iPhone version a separate app.
The wave seems to be aimed at making the kind of music I don’t like very much so I’ve not gotten on to that train yet.
If it was universal and was auv3 i would maybe give it a go, but I try not to buy stuff that isn’t auv3 anymore. I have spent too much money on apps that don’t get used as much as I thought but they would. Auv3 has been a game changer and iElectribe doesnt get much love anymore as I tend to turn to Ruismaker plug ins instead.
I’d be all over a lot of Korgs Gadgets if they were auv3 instead of being siloed.
It is my greatest bitter impossible wish that Gadgets might turn up as AUs....
Echo a couple of the earlier posts. I thought I had found a new favorite and was really productive with it...for a week, maybe two. The sounds and the process then got tedious (to its credit, it has legitimate LinnDrum samples, though).
I use KEW quite a bit for on the go music making. It really clicked with me right away, though I also have a lot of experience with pretty much all of the electribe series to date.
If I had one nitpick, it's that the UI on the iPhone version is BARELY useable. I still manage to get good work done on it and I'm happy to the option to run it on my phone, but it's a shame there wasn't some way to make better use of the space. Tough one to crack given the UI already.
Indeed. On your phone, when you save a pattern, do you get half the dialogue box with no apparent save button? On my iPhone 8+ I used to be able to save but now I can’t easily. I also wish it would sync properly between iPhone and iPad like Gadget does. When I first started using Electribe Wave I didn’t realise that two pattern projects (I’ve yet to try the ‘song’ level) that had the same name across iPhone and iPad were not the same thing, so I kept losing a lot of the stuff I did on the tube.
