I'm 100% not ashamed to say NS2 inspired me a great deal here. I think it's probably the best piano roll implementation out there (for touch interfaces), and I did my best to follow in the footsteps of the things I liked. I even mentioned it in my original post :P
Yeah agreed, it does look a little bit like Reaper and a myriad of other piano rolls, but then it is a piano roll.
And they all just copied Steinberg anyway, right ?
multiple playheads - you have my undivided attention.
The more we can manipulate and be creative with midi the better.
IOS is lacking in a creative midi manipulation workhorse
flip/delay/nudge/transpose/reverse/mutate/stretch/change key &scales/analyze & apply groove/harmonize - and even be able to use negative harmony .
ALL on a track by track basis - and you have gold :)
I need this today!!! 😁
I would be interested in free or per step CC drawing with step lenght following quantisation setting.
I am also looking for playhead speed multiplier/divider.
Transposition by midi input would be great, on a dedicated channel or with a switch, with retriger option.
If anyone else's interested.
Oh, NS2 invented the piano roll.
Amazing.
This app could be a real deal, the missing piece between AUM/AB/Auv3 and jam scenarios.
A lot of hype!!!
Credit where credit's due. NS2 innovated a great deal with making midi editing a gorgeous experience on iOS, and Matt deserves praise for that. And I'm lucky enough to be inspired by others as well: grid mode and duration bars are inspired by BM3, automation editing is inspired by Xequence, grid scheme is inspired by GarageBand! Key/scale overlays are inspired by Klimper. Note overlays are inspired by FL studio on desktop,
And on top of all that, I'm adding my own salt and pepper, and I hope ya'll are going to love it.
I sit on the shoulders of giants, as the giants before did.
I didn't said that NS2 invented piano roll. I was pointing to obvious same (+/-) color scheme + idea of displaying note velocity as horizontal line inside note, increasing size from left to right based on velocity size.. Don't remember that any other iOS piano roll implements this detail.
But because @blueveek stated very clearly that NS was really one of apps which inspired him, which is fair in my opinion, i don't think any further discussion about this topic makes any sense.. Again just pointing that he confirmed what i said, so your reaction on my post was really unnecessary.
@blueveek being able to tie different notes (rather than the same note repeated like usual ties) would be great for acid lines (like Rozeta Bassline).
Class act ;)
If non of us stood on those shoulders, Nanostudio wouldn't even exist, we should all take a moment every now and then and Charlie Steinberg et al, those guys actually innovated, they actually created the wheel we all use.
Yeah, well the graphic design could be a few pegs further from the inspiration. It’s hard to tell by looking which is NS2 and which is blueveek’s app. This is probably not serving either developer, visual identity is a pretty big part of a company’s image.
Absolutely, this is planned for the immediate to medium term future. I mention this in another reply as well, but the plan is to first release a polished piano roll that everyone can instantly understand, then focus my energy on finishing two additional AUs with more complex featuresets:
You can expect everything to work together seamlessly, and I'll update everyone on my progress after the initial Piano Roll release. Don't worry about pricing either, I'll make sure the upgrade path is completely reasonable.
This is an absolutely fantastic idea. I'll try to get boolean and pitch probability into initial release.
I think this is possible already, because the plugin offers free-form automation editing. CC message timings, duration etc. is decoupled from note on/off messages, so it should be possible to achieve what you're saying.
Please let me know if you're looking for something else though.
@blueveek You say it’ll be released “soon”
How soon is now? :)

Are you sure it's not the rose-colored glasses that all NS2 fanboys wear?
;)

Brilliant stuff :)
Yes probability would be great, a chord input mode of some kind would be another nice feature.
Why so defensive? Sure, we probably like different apps, most people do.
I fear it's the lack of my ability to load a charming gif to show I'm kidding.
Regarding scale fold, I've read your answer, @blueveek but just can't find out how to quote your answer with the new Vanilla Forum.
How I imagine is this:
That said, it may be too far from the original idea, which is already very promising.
I think NS2 should change their color scheme. They don’t have ‘blue’ in their AB forum user name, so they have no claim to that color.
😉
Looks like an awesome app. Congratulations on making it! 🙌
Wow! This looks like a day 1 no brainier instabuy! Looking forward to this 😻🎛🚀
What a great answer. As people we learned and borrow and get inspired from each other just like what music is. I'm pretty sure that each and every developer do the same.
When (approximately) is the planned release? For Universal, that is..... 😀
It will be universal at launch.
I don’t have any exact dates obviously, but i’m done with the implementation, and beta testing starts in a week or two. This gives me enough time to add the repeatedly requested features in this thread.
And I don’t see any obvious reasons why the beta should drag on for too long.
Can’t wait for your new app!
+1 for conditional triggers, which is a unique selling point of Elektron hardware, and was perfectly implemented in Groove Rider
Is it possible to lock the view to an arbitrary number of bars? I really like the way Gadget does this. I always prefered that type of piano roll over the free moving ones that aren't cropped to the bar if that makes any sense.
