No. I unplugged the internet cable. It seemed to work using just the WiFi connection between devices. This is a regular router though. I don’t think the phone hotspots can do this.
@wim That is so cool! I definitely am getting one of these.
Thanks for all the details.
😎
That’s right. Any router can be used this way. I only mentioned the travel routers because of their portability.
I just want to say, though, that my experience with midi over WiFi for anything but Link is too much prone to latency and missed notes. No matter what I try I don’t get acceptable results. Link seems to have ways to deal with this, but for playing or even sending sequences from Rozeta to other devices, I’ve never found it acceptable.
Ymmv.
So, have i got this right?. The router creates it's own local wifi network without having to be plugged into an internet provider? If so, that makes it possible to use Ableton Link at a mates house who has no internet....i just have to take a router with me? If so ......wait for it...........it's.........a...........GAME CHANGER!!!!!!
File transfers, too.
Although if you are moving stuff between newer iOS devices, Airdrop probably is easier.
But, if one device is old, like my iPad 2, then this method works great.
Yep. No - internet - required.
But seriously, you need to get some better friends. 😛
Bloody hell! What's the emoji for blown away?
Is there anything else people have been keeping secret from me?
Well, there is the thing about Elvis ...
🤣😂😅!
Oh. Another small thing to mention about the travel routers. The battery powered units aren’t really meant to be plugged in and left that way indefinitely. They’re really meant to be charged and run off of battery, or plugged in for limited times. If you want something to run all the time then a regular plug-in type router is best. These are mainly for portability. The little guy, with no battery can run forever plugged in, but you’re still better off with a regular router for a stationary / long running setup.
I know! Stuck with the buggers now though! 🤔
Thanks for the HooToo tip!
This is something I’ve been itching to try out but can’t really justify the expense for the two it would require to try it out. Kinda expect it to be flakey. But if it wasn’t, it’d be a really useful thing.
