  • @elf_audio Loving Koala here - thanks for making it! Having done some sessions with it here's my feature request list for your consideration:

    • 'One Shot' mode: entire sample plays upon a single pad tap.

    • Double-tap returns FX sliders to zero (no effect) setting.

    • A single 'send' slider on the FX page applying to all eight FX: so we can control the dry/wet mix of FX.

    • A microfade out on the Sample 'Trim' end-point slider (to prevent pops and clicks with samples containing mid to low end.

  • Anyone care to do a contrast and compare on how this matches up with Triqtraq? It does seem more intuitive.

I was hesitant. It’s like several others, but it’s interface and logic is extremely intuitive, fast and fun. Quickly becoming a favorite for me of apps like this. Completely satisfied with the purchase. I’ll leave it to others to outline and/or compare/contrast.

Hey Skip, mind doing a quick screen capture of this thing in action? :)

I’d say Koala is more similar to Samplebot and Werkbench and Yellofier than to TriqTraq. Mainly because the “pads” are each mini samplers that you can sample into. TriqTraq isn’t a true sampler in this sense as you can’t record samples into pads only load them.

  • Like the old days of iOS. Cheap enough just to take a punt on ! If it of no use no real loss.

I agree that Koala is not too similar to Triqtraq.
But you can sample in Triqtraq from the Kits screen, with the Rec button in the center of the pads.

I guess the biggest difference is you’re not recording onto separate tracks. Aside from a single undo option, with Koala you can’t fiddle with sequences and mixes after as it all goes down onto a single track.

That’s good for me though, I like that kind of spontaneity, and lack of options can focus the mind.

  • Nice app. Would be great if we can have a StepSequencer.

Maybe ;) I’m at the tail-end of traveling at the moment.

It doesn’t do all that much that’s all that much different from samplebot & werkbench as others have mentioned. It’s similar and I like those others quite a bit too. It’s just this one is very quick and simplified while retaining the most important tools.

I was hesitant because on paper it looks redundant with about 4 other apps I have. But the way it works sets it apart for me and I felt it was $3 very well spent.

    Small file and universal too.

  • It is really a fun little gadget. My kids and I are having a blast. But I really need a stepsequencer, I will be sticking to BeatHawk for the more serieus work for now. Will be checking back in a few weeks.

  • is there a list of this apps roadmap somewhere in this thread?

Mmm, works on high sierra which is 10.13.6

I'm on Mojave 10.14.3 and I get the same "koala is damaged and can't be opened.." message

  • Koala tutorial by the developer:

  • edited March 2019

Hi All! I just posted a couple of tutorial videos here:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2iBbHYRoAAXIMN28kc3PcZeaKQ7DNla6 along with Omar's great tips and tricks video. More to come soon, so feel free to subscribe (and like) for more updates.

These first two are super basic, but they're quite easy for me to do, so I will be doing some more advanced topics over the next few days, got to balance that with good old bug fixing though!

  • OK, I think I've fixed the free Mac version: https://www.elf-audio.com/koala/koala.app.zip - it will alert you that it's from an unidentified developer as I don't have a mac app store account - but you can open it anyway by going to Preferences > Security

  • Cool videos cheers.

  • Does Koala support input selection when used with audio interfaces with more than one input?

Can it record in mono / stereo if the interface supports it?

  • @elf_audio double loop including the exisiting pattern data would be cool. Start with 1 bar, add 4x4 kick, double twitch for a 4 bar loop.

  • @Samu - for now, it's just mono (unless you record in another app and import) but it will be stereo in the future if supported.

    @Dchild dup loop is coming...

  • Any chance we'll see landscape support? Using an iPad Pro 12" horizontally in it's keyboard case... craning my next sideways. :)

  • Yes, landscape mode please !!!

Oh wow. Some great tips that I hadn't considered in this video! Thanks for sharing.

  • (small update) Koala Sampler 1.19 just released! 🤯

    • Support for playing chromatically via MIDI
    • Minimum tempo 40BPM
    • Fixes bug on some phones where some of the graphics get cut off
    • General improvements to stability and usability
  • Feature request...have not noticed it yet but may have missed it. Would you support semitone pitch control on the sample edit menu? It's a bit hard to zero in values currently.

  • Be good to see a clearer guide to resampling - tried following the vids but can’t really see what’s being done, and seems a bit hit and miss when I try and do it.
