I love the GUI of their apps but find they are behind the times with IAA only. Feel this a Mellowsound are a bit of just a money grab as there are other apps out there that give you the same and feel FingerLabs are like stuck in the iOS world from 3/4 years ago !
True, but didn’t FingerLabs say they were going to make Mellowsound an AU in a future update?
SK-51 by Fingerlab
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/sk-51/id1388248180?mt=8
The IAA isnt as concerning as the file size for me. 300 MB for a casio sk1 app?
Lovely looking UI.
I guess they are using audio kit or similar and when that set of tools incorporates AU they will upgrade their apps
Yes I guess this is going to become more and more the case, @Michael has retired TAAE so more apps will be dependent on audiokit delivering AU.... @analog_matt No pressure dude
They sampled the toy keyboard/sampler up and down... but left out the additive synth, portamento, envelopes. That's probably what blows up the sample size/amount.
Imho every software developer ought to buy an original SK-1 to study user interface design.
You can operate this fairly complex unit (3 synthesis modes, a sampler and a sequencer) that comes without display within one hour of learning.
I don’t trust Fingerlab products anymore. They were NEVER ABLE to get midi right on any of their products. I stopped buying them.
We've been working with Fingerlab to help them add AU to their audiokit-powered apps. It will happen soon.

Mellowsound midi working fine for me.
Plus, SK-51 is free.
I installed it and it won't run on my iPad 12.9" 2017. Weird... no issues with any of the other Fingerlab stuff
Anyone else having this problem? I want to mess with this thing, but I'm frustrated I can't run it....
It is working fine on my Air2 so far.
WTF? I've uninstalled and reinstalled it a bunch of times, soft and hard rebooted the iPad along the way.
LAME. Oh well, here's hoping Fingerlab can shoot out a quick update. I dig their other apps, and if AUv3 is on the way for Mellowsound I expect this is in the works as well.
Man, I REALLY want to play with this....
@Daveypoo The only way I been able to contact them in the past to report problems is via Twitter as couldn’t find a email on their website
@Jumpercollins Done! Just a drag that my fairly robust Pro can't run this at all.
@Daveypoo working on my Air2 not tried on my pro as yet but you really not missing out on anything
You might be missing the point.

It is supposed to be shitty.
@CracklePot dude Iam 47 i know -its just not “shit” enough haha :-)
@CracklePot it needs to be more crap and the volume dont go up to eleven it goes up to more way more thats not good enough
I think I am missing hearing it through that shit speaker, with cheapo batteries that are on the cusp of dying. I am sure that had tons to do with the charm of the original!
@CracklePot i do recall me and a nerd friend attempted to wire some SANYO speakers to the electronics board that was the last time I used the Casio it blew up but the sound of the exposion was proper good really crap sound but couldnt sample it cos only Sampler I had was the Casio one - caught in the explosion Jokes aside if they added more sample pads I would be more obliged
I pulled my SK-1 out when my kids were probably still too young. They broke it.
They had a lot of fun while it lasted, though.
If they don’t want to add pads, I hope they at least AU it when the AudioKit stuff is ready. That way we could get more pads when needed.
Cool :-) i have been looking at the seven systems drum pad app Seems can be used as a virtual pad controller via midi.
...and magically it worked!
I played with it for 90 seconds and I'm good - scratched the nostalgia itch and now I can move on.
Thanks, all! Move along - nothing to see here.
You might be missing the point that those samples are among the best sources to be fed through a filter/fx unit due to their special kind of trash/grit
I still have a real SK-1 for that reason and it's a keeper.
They are working on Auv3 support 😊
Sweet. I love these little cool apps.
Interesting.. DM 1-2 Auv3... 👍
Edit... I will gladly buy them over again to support the effort.. Thanks..
