The internet is about free speech including whiny haters. The savvy thing one can do on the internet is to say your piece without referencing lovers and haters just because of divergent opinions. Yes this ring is probably more suited for kids. I love gadgets but this one I find too gimmicky.
I didn't say this device was more suited for kids, I said they would probably think it was cool. And they will... that was my main point. I'm a big fan of getting kids into music so one day people like me and other musicians/developers will be paid more fairly. And free speech has nothing to do with the internet and haters and lovers. The "haters" have to do with a worldwide culture that doesn't understand when it is appropriate to complain/moan/judge and when it isn't. Before any device has even hit the market... certain remarks just do not belong as per the topic. In fact me mentioning this is just as bad as haters because I'm digressing from the point of the topic. Which was hopefully to discuss a new device... not to give two craps whether or not someone thinks it's gimmicky (I think those who say gimmicky are gimmicky... how's that for pointless nonsense).
So anyway... I hope there is more chiming in on specs of the product... potential developers maybe using it... or other REAL info that will help me with the use of it once I get it. (Haters... just keep hating... as that is your apparent... freedom??... and I promise to those who don't like to hate that I will engage no further).

What were we talking about again? oh right, iRing. I'm not really sure how the motion thing would work out in regards to my hope for it being a midi switch, but I'll guess we'll find out when it gets released. If it does somehow make a decent switch I'd think 25 bucks is pretty cheap. Just not seeing how it can do that at the moment. Would be kinda cool to be able to switch with a flick of the wrist though. We'll see, I guess.

that's why I'm waiting for the app. Works with other tracking apps using a camera, like ARMedia. Shouldn't have said this, but it's so obvious that it certainly is no secret. And in practical use, the original rings will work better I guess. Cardboard rings will become unusable one day.
People who can take advantage of this technology will spend those $25. I may be one of them, but first I'm going to make cardboard rings! :-)
It's more likely that IK haters will not bother using the app at all.

Funny you mention it! The iRing instantly made me think of an iTheremin app...haha and no, I am not an app developer
For me, I think the usefulness of the app will come down to how much control the iRing system gives you. An advantage it has over the internal gyroscope is that you can control six variables rather than just three. My experience with the other camera controller apps has been that the control isn't very controllable. Does seem like it might be a good way to record midi CC or OSC automation. An app that could save these as presets that could then be loaded in later might open up some interesting possibilities.
Using the word "haters" in the context of this thread is so asinine. All those who try to communicate in English in any form could do a lot worse than to reaquaint themselves with the word "detractor(s)". It's more appropriate. More respectful to the opinion of others. And more pertinent to literally any context the internet (and beyond) can use when the term "hater(s)" is bandied about. Sorry for the rant but damn, folks...
As for the iRing, from the video it looked like it's only held in place by keeping your fingers together to hold it. Is that true? If so, I can say right now I'd pass on this 'cause I know I'd wind up gripping too hard and wouldn't use them long.

hahaha, actually hip hop has a way better term than "fan boys", they use "stans", and I absolutely approve it's usage (cause quite frankly, blind sycophancy actually happens, not "whiny haters")

@ShawnLeonhardt - you are probably new to this forum. I haven't seen the word "haters" being bandied around here. This is because posters here are very objective in their opinions and tend to kind of respect opinion of others rather branding them as "haters". That word for me has a juvenile connotation especially as used on the net. Critique something and someone who doesn't like your critique brands is as "hating". Duh
IK would probably sell this by the bucket loads and many people might find it very useful but like I say from what I've seen on the video it seems like a hit or miss way of controlling music or apps and I find it gimmicky. I have the whole set of IK's pianos, electric and acoustic, but they won't be getting my ££ this time around.
