Yeah, great stuff. The Persuaders Theme by John Barry is still one of my all time tv tunes.

To go a bit “meta” for a moment... There seems to be (for over the last 15 years) a growing Spartan aesthetic growing in our culture at large. Probably the result of wars and economic troubles, one could propose. Sparse, hard, cool, camo, no-nonsense. I watch cars and trucks drive past my house, and notice the vehicles’ color... or lack thereof. It’s a monochromatic parade. Grey, silver, black, white cars. An occasional dark red one for a slight variation. Then more monochrome monotony. Most with fierce intimidating looking headlights. (What’s that about? Even the newer VW Beetles look pissed-off!)

Maybe the recent surge in popularity of unicorns and rainbows is a counter-reaction to the Spartan ascetic aesthetic. 🌈🦄😋

That would be my guess. A mass production society, where people must behave in predictably repetitive ways in order to become an economically viable participant of the society, will likely have an effect over developmental psychology that may likely predispose the psyche to form a preference for predictably repetitive patterns.

@haulin_notes @horsetrainer More simple explanation. Colors or lack off could also be caused of the awareness of companies and consumers that colorful cars just need faster cleaning :) So rather pragmatic choice than all kind of complex theories. You see the same with clothing neutral colors just don't look so fast dirty.

Wait a minute... clean a car? Isn’t that what rain is for? Also, I put camouflage tile on my floor so I don’t have to sweep as often. Intelligent slothfulness... it’s what separates us from the animals. Erm, except for the sloth. 🤣

@UnoWoo @at2 And talking about movie tunes, what about Westerns. Morricone's Man With A Harmonica Theme (Once Upon a Time in the West)

  • This thread has gotten more interesting than the original focus on American pop music, so jumping back in with this movie theme. i doubt the Youtube critic would approve, but that's ok.

    My man!
I have been known to pour liquid soap all over the cars if a particularly heavy rainstorm is on the way.

  • Thinking about harmonies and melody

  • Goblin (Claudio Simonetti) was and is great!
Barry Gray did some marvellous themes too:

  • Can´t resist! Just love it!

    No melody?

OMG... I’m doing that next time rain is in the forecast! Now to figure out how to wax it as effortlessly... It’s hard work finding the easy way out. 😋

This thread is becoming more and more interesting, Never thought myself of cleaning a car this easy. More suggestions welcome :D

  • Also listen to Profondo Rosso by Goblin (a quite obscure Italian prog-rock band). This is the movie tune for Argentino's movie with the same name. Imo of of Argento's best.

  • I knew that was a Rickenbacker bass as soon as it came in, even before the camera panned over. So much useless knowledge in my head...

You need a decent adblocker, friend. I haven’t seen a YouTube ad in years.

Found the desktopper... no such tricks on the iOS app. It is our lot in life to suffer.

If you need an ad blocker for mobile I recommend 1Blocker X https://1blocker.com/

plus talking about mainstream pop music is wasting of time and it isn't benchmark of nowadays music complexity, it's just product made base of market order, to work as background noise in radio or as dance element on parties...

The point of a producer <—> consumer relationship, as it relates to the generation of profit (capital), is the consumer is encouraged to buy/consume more. More consumption drives up profit margins.

The driving force is not the 'free' market, but the controlled market.

Make something desirable inherently (sex) or make something desirable by marketing aka advertising.

Repetition breeds familiarity. Familiarity encourages consumption until it has become un-novel enough for consumption charts to decline. Enter the trend hunters, or whatever the fuck you want to call them. I like to call them cultural vultures.

Find the 'next' new thing market it to death till sales start to slump and move to the next thing.

Beanie Babies, fidget spinners, trap music, Adele... whatever.
Beat the market to death and move on.

Some things will persist and expand, like rap music and all its permutations.

I feel sort of blessed living in a college town on the edge of one of the biggest sprawling metropolises on the planet. We have a college radio station, which is driven by DJs who are musicians, locals, students, or aficionados all of whom are as eclectic as anyone visiting this forum. It makes me realize creativity is and never will die. Just the exposure to 'different' will be attenuated.

    TL;DR

It's not that anything is good or bad, expanding or dying. It's the getting hit in the head over and over with shit someone thinks we'll buy that's killing everything.

Weirdness and creativity are alive, they're just suffocating.

I don't do melody. I'm doing modular. Love me some randomness, probability, sample & hold, it can get crazy you know. At least it drives my girlfriend crazy for sure😂

Melody still used. Just same melody. Max Martin. :)
