I haven’t upgraded since version 3 so £109 is still quite a deal.

My question.. Is studio edition really gonna be worth the extra over standard??

Complex-1 and Parsec are absolutely lovely. If you already own a few of the rack extensions (or only want a couple of them) it might not be worthwhile but IMO they’ve included some absolutely essential devices with the Suite version

  • so do you ha e to buy reason to get the vst racks? is that it. I wonder what it would cost for me to upgrade now. I think I had either the first or second version of reason back in the day

Here's what they sent me back in March. Makes me think they will likely tempt me under the £100 mark again in future.

    @MonzoPro

Do you know what the difference is between Studio and Standard? I’d just be interested in the VST capabilities, if that’s included in Standard that’d probably do for me.

    @MonzoPro

In that case, Standard has all you need.

Studio just adds a few more rack plugins (complex, parsec) and a bigger sound library, afaik

  • Reason 11 comes in three flavors: Reason Intro (£69), Reason (£299) and Reason Suite (£499). If you want it all, the brand new Reason Suite is a formidable collection of instruments, effects and other music making tools–more than 70 devices in total! It’s all of Reason’s instrument and effects and 16 extra Rack Extension plugins from Reason Studios in one unbelievable package at an unbeatable price.

    Already a Reason user?
You can upgrade straight to Reason Suite for just $249/€249 when Reason 11 is released.

    Ah ok, cheers guys.

Kind of, but the noises in that vid sound closer, and crazier to a proper hardware modular. I guess like apps, each bit of software has its own character.

Just takes my mind off the approaching UK civil war for a few minutes.

Sure, the Arturia Buchla Music Easel is pretty nice too. That comes on sale once or twice a year.

Whatever you do don't drop into the thread about buying lots of small or one large hardware synth(s).

For a few days I was back lusting after an Access Virus TI..

The Reason rack vst looks awesome in Ableton but it would be great if AU and vst3 is supported on the actual Reason DAW because I would like to use the Roland cloud plugins in Reason on my Mac. I might wait until AU and vst3 is supported in Reason before upgrading. Anyway, I do like the idea of Reason rack in Ableton Live.

I haven't got the space for hardware stuff, or the money. I really need a new computer though, so I'm lusting after an iMac. Might get the base model from Amazon this week if I can.

Why did you have to go an post that?!

I think I may upgrade to 10 now which will include v11 standard version when it's released. You can't upgrade to studio before it's released so hopefully I'll have forgotten about all the extra stuff by then as I'll be totally overwhelmed by what's already included in v10.

Good choice with the iMac... Just don't get one with a spinny HD whatever you do. SSD or nothing. Seriously. The Spinny HD version is painful to use.

Oh, and don't buy a MacBook Pro.

The touch bar pros are the worst laptops apple has ever made. They're unfit for purpose. True story. I have a very pretty very expensive doorstop to prove it.

Oh, and if you buy any expensive electronic device, please make sure you don't buy it in any way that will make the reseller think it's for business use. Consumer law in Europe requires a two year warranty, but it's up to the reseller to honour this once it's outside the manufacturer 1 year warranty. And they won't fix it if they get a sniff that you bought the product for a business. Bastards. I'm not bitter. Actually scratch that. I'm bitter.

  • Reason v2.5 was my first ever DAW. Loved it. Upgraded a few times over the years. Now prefer iOS for the ease and 'back to basics' approach (because I'm old and only a hobbyist).

Anyone think the rack plug-in will ever come to AUv3? I'd bet it's technically possible, but not sure how they would charge for it.

  • edited August 2019

@johnrob66 Highly doubt we'll be getting anything like the rack plugin (from Props/Reason Studios) on iOS any time soon, BUT, that said, I do believe there are plans to continue improving Reason Compact in a meaningful way. I can't stand sitting behind a desktop for production anymore, but if I could tolerate it in any capacity I would definitely be doing the Reason Compact -> Reason workflow thing. The integration is incredibly tight (even if right now it's only 8 bars and three devices).

  • I always get my Reason upgrades (and most other things) via AudioDeluxe, as there is an additional discount applied. As I’m in the UK, it’s also great paying the dollar prices.

  • @johnrob66 said:

I think that's the easy part. Korg have already shown how it could be done. The Propellerheads also have an enormous content library they could easily repackage for ios.

I'm surprised they haven't already done it.

They could easily have already released some of the basic rack items like NN-19 and Dr Octo as individual apps and sold loads of content as IAPs for each one.

And they could copy the korg route and have a main Reason for iOS app with a certain number of included rack items and then sell individual apps that can be used inside or outside the Reason app. Just like Gadget.

The Reason concept is perfect for iOS. I was hoping for Reason when the iPad first dropped.

After they released the awful ReBirth iOS app I realised Reason was unlikely. ReBirth was not re-enigneered/redesigned for iPad but a straight port that was far from optimised for iOS. I'm not surprised it wasn't as successful as it should have been (ignoring the recent takedown due to Roland getting shirty). The best iOS apps are made for iOS directly, not ported. Rebirth was a huge disappointment, it was so fiddly to use. It sounded great though.

You have to do these things right. We’re a discerning bunch in general.

If they'd have released Reason Lite for iPad years ago it could have developed gradually and been a truly killer app by now.

  • Are there any valid Propellerheads promo codes going around ;-)

Didn’t know about the business thing, I’ll pretend it’s just for music!

The base model has the crap 1gb Fusion drive, and you can’t upgrade on Amazon, but it’s £180 cheaper than the Apple Store and I’ll plug in an external SSD anyway.

As of Reason 10, no, it still doesn’t. Major pet peeve! Haven’t heard anything about it for version 11, and since they’re silent on it, it’s probably still not done. Arrrgh!

  • Thats a shame. For those that dont have Reason and do have a retina mac, I would strongly recommend against buying it.

  • No we are getting the Reason rack which is very cool will this open up the modular DAW world?

For example will you be able to inter connect between say a Reason Rack and the new Bitwig modular devices to make a cross platform modular device. Or will the 2 systems be separate entities regards to CV in and out ?

I can imagine making a mega modular monster using Reason rack, the new Ableton M4L CV modules and Voltage Modular VST all interconnecting inside Ableton.

Is the text illegible non retina? If so that would be a do not but from me also

Looks pretty ropey on an iMac (Reason 9x):

  • Wait, what? Not retina?

    Oh.

  • Finally Reason racks in bitwig...
Thats a huge thing for me..
