@craftycurate I apologise if my post gave that impression. Full disclosure, I actually believe myself to be on the autistic spectrum and have experienced many times when my social skills have left much to be desired. This apparently being one of them. I do try hard to overcome my limitations, however. I simply recognised in another forum member the desire to help and contribute being severely hampered by their manner, something they didn’t seem to recognise. The outcome was not good for them or the forum, so I wanted to suggest a way of de-escalating those situations. I would assume that most of us, including myself, would at some point benefit from someone just disengaging when we lose the plot and post something ill considered. I can see this is not something that sits well with others, so we may as well stop here.

This does help put your OP in context. Thanks for sharing some more info about yourself :) I would hope that the forum is able to welcome each person, whatever their personal situation, unique personality and so forth.

This whole thread does partly illustrate the dangers of communicating through text only media which remove all the subtleties of human interaction. Certainly my post was a response to what I thought you meant and where I thought you were coming from, influenced no doubt by other responses too, but this does put a different complexion on things.

Personally I'm a bit allergic to the 'my way or the highway' attitude of some posters without even taking note of the arguments as well as using formulations that state things as 'facts' when they are most of the time masked or personal opinions sometimes caused frustration and/or lack of better knowledge and understanding...

I'm not sure how this advances the conversation. Wouldn't it be better to name those posters you are referring to, and their so called "formulations", to give them the right of reply and explain their position a bit more?

  • @[Deleted User], nope, too difficult for me. Just constantly amazed at what is at our fingertips. Who cares if the library at Alexandria burned. We got it all! Next... an app that generates random or subject based witty comments... then my brain can finally close up shop.

They know who they are, no need to point out anyone...
(Some of them have already been blocked from the forum).

I'm always grateful that others seem able to put up with my idiosyncrasies (and bad jokes) without ever calling me the "dickhead" I know I can sometimes be.

... So.. I try my best to extend that level of patience to others too, even those personalities that can jar on first impressions.

I've met my fair share of prickly geniuses online and in real life, so I completely understand the importance of "letting shit slide" and "not holding grudges".

Let's celebrate the prickly geniuses. All of them. You. Us.

  • If I don’t enjoy the conversation, I can stop talking.
I don’t need to roll around or run in circles.
I don’t even need an Ignore button to ignore people.
    I agree with OP.
Trying too hard to convince people is a waste of energy.
Better for me to listen and expand my own perspective.

Samurai Jack is one of my favorite shows of all time. We could all apply a lot of Jacks principals and be better for it. Good call! :+1:
