Not really replacing anything in particular with it. I’m selling a couple of things that I don’t use to ease the cost of it (Akai MPC-500, Beatstep, a Zoom RT-123)...but, I mainly bought it to jam on in my bedroom DAW-less set-up. My main rig (15” MacBook Pro, Ableton w/Push2, Maschine, Moog G’ma) , is in a closet that I converted into a music space. Unfortunately, it opens up to the main living area of our house, and, we currently have our oldest son, his wife and 15 month old grandchild temporarily living with us, and I haven’t even been able get into or enjoy my studio in the past few months. It’s always “too loud...you’ll wake the baby up.😐
Anyway, I took the lemons live handed me and made some lemonade. It’ a pretty cool rig that I’ve put together over time. I have the tracks 1-8 of the Toraiz Squid feeding scales, chords, and some sequencer trickery to the 707, and tracks 9-16 doing the same to AUM or Gadget, a Volca Keys, and a SP-404a. I also got a pair of the little iLoud studio monitors (which are surprisingly good) to round it all out.

Really nice!
Cool explanation as well !
Where are you at?
@RUST( i )K I live in Charlotte NC
Down the road in Daytona Beach brother!
I've been eyeing those iLoud studio monitors for awhile for travel locally, they really live up to the hype?
I’ve got Tannoy PBM 6.5s in my main space, and the iLouds do a pretty good job of making me miss them too much right now. They are pretty transparent and can get to pretty good volume without breaking up or sounding strained. They don’t have ultra-low bass, but I find they they represent good reference down to about the 50hz range...and then they drop off pretty steep. They do technically go lower...but, it’s not really impressive at those frequencies. I do mostly deep house and downtempo so I usually roll off my mixes below 40hz anyway. I have listened to some trap and classic drum & bass (LTJ Bukem type stuff) and was surprised by how good they sounded.
Good to know, thanks.
ditto on the iLouds, thanks
sorry in case i missed it:
did anyone find out if that thing is USB class compliant ? i mean audio and midi:
WITHOUT the need of a driver ?
thnx !
OH i found it. So it’s a definitive NO ?!
VERY disappointing! Roland, c’mon !!
Yeah...that was a BIG miss on their part. I will say that the drivers for Mac OS are pretty rock solid. I’m having great integration with Ableton and the 707.
Thanks for that video, lots of close ups of the screen(s). For my old eyes the 707 looks like keyhole surgery ..... shame .... if you can't see what's going on it's a no go.
The size of the 101 had me, then the line on velocity crushed any chance of me even touching that thing. The “pads” are buttons! If it only had a D Beam to help give it some expression...
Reads again - the mini-pads are just sequencer buttons and not pads?
It’s right there in lopop’s 101/707 comparison video, there is even a close up of his finger pushing the buttons a few times. Velocities have to be edited by a shift/note/value entry. Look at the vid above, 5:50 or so
Dope!
he plays the keyboard like a guitar
The Telecaster? First time I've ever seen it being called a keyboard
@RUST( i )K
Did you ever pull the trigger on any devices?
I ask because... and not to add fuel to the fire but I just hooked up my iPad to the Octatrack to move and edit files back and fourth thanks to iPad OS and I gotta admit it’s pretty slick.
Interesting idea, I never even would have thought of doing that.
It literally just dawned on me this morning. Also, the way ipad OS handles downloads and file management in general it’s closer to a “computer” than ever before. 👍🏻👍🏻 If you like that sort of thing.
Bedtime-ish transfer jams
is that beta or final release?
It’s final release of iPad OS files app hooked to my Octatrack. I’m pulling samples from icloud and dropping them on the Octa. You can also send stuff from the Octa yo the iPad.
FOR ME........here is my conclusion...........on the MC...............
I don't want or need the MC 707 .......for a grand($1000)
HOWEVER, the MC 101.....with the same engine fits in my workflow as a nice little synth/key sound and basic 808/909 mini box to use with my overall workflow.
The MC 707 for the music I do is not probably the best central hub, the OCTA being that.
But, I do think I will grab the MC 101 once it goes on sale maybe......
It may actually take the place of I dare say...the Circuit......it has a much better sound library IMHO for what I need.
GREAT NEWS~
I agree, I have my eye on the 101 as well. Don’t need it... but...
Jeeez, about time elektron released a real hardware update to the octatrack.
