Tease it if you got it
Thanks and great post It makes me more excited!
@RUST( i )K so in the end what made you decide to get the Octa with all the other choices you were contemplating?
Also, if you haven’t already start reading the manual.
the world is a mysterious place, like why doesn't Roger Linn just go on and put out the Linn mk2 that the whole galaxy has been waiting for... instead he's all about the linnstrument right now, inspite of already beginning development on the Linn mk2 and the screams and tears of generations of people waiting in the wings for it to come out... it's like Jiffy deciding that they won't make peanut butter and will focus on humus or something
Really functionality.
I needed some specific things for my set up for performance and studio.
I needed to tie all the hardware I have together. It was so hard already muting channels and daisychaining Audio/midi and it started to feel like iOS as far as the set up.
I also determined iOS is an instrument, not an ecosystem for me.
It is a loop recorder, a synth(animoog), and an FX suite.
I also need to play loops in hardware so I could be autonomous from any iPad or Mac.
I needed some multi Fx.
I needed some multi device midi control.
I wanted a Reslice type hardware device for remix on the fly or experimenting with existing things using hardware.
AND IT IS SO FUCKING SEXY!! LOL
I have Digitakt, Digitone Model Samples,Circuit, MonoStation, Micfrofreak...so I needed to tie these things all into 1 main brain.
You know?
I love my other Elektron boxes that helped.
All I long for now is Sub 37, A semi-modular desktop, and Poly Synth....in the meantime an MC 101 would do to give me some piano and additional poly synth sounds until I go shopping on gear in the next year.
HA! True true.
100% agree on that, I have tried a few times and I know some people have it down but I just couldn't make it work the way i wanted it to. Love it, still great for creativity on the go and again sample fodder for the hardware.
It really is!
Absolutely it works like a champ for that.
They have a magic to them don't they?
I was thinking this morning on my way into day job about how unbelievably fortunate we are to have all this gear to choose from and how much more complicated everything used to be. I have been doing electronic music (and music in general) for 25 +/- years now. I was thinking how some of my favorite records from the 90s (DJ Shadow Entroducing, Bonobo Animal Magic, Tricky Maxiquay, Spring Heal Jack Treader) were all built on such limited samplers by today's standards.
Also one of the reasons I'm forcing myself to limit what gear I use on my next release, by all accounts the Octa + iPad is 100% more powerful than the MPC 60 that Entroducing is was written (entirely) on.
Really valid and poignant
Yup, agreed, I have been more productive and able to do more by limiting the number of apps, synths, tracks I use.
+100000000000000000000!!!!
I always keep in mind what was accomplished in Endtroducing and Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives, ...
Such a great album!
It's a difficult practice though... you really have to be mindful to be minimal. At least for me it is anyway. (one i'm getting better at, maybe...)
What I do is set fake "rules".
Blank things per song at a time......sort of thing you know.
I need to keep it simple yet INTERCHANGEABLE !
Gets easier with practice.
Agreed!
Side note @kobamoto @RUST( i )K have you seen this?
https://www.landscape.fm/hctt
I picked one up recently and haven’t gotten a chance to really get the hang of it yet.
yeah I've seen that but the version I saw wasn't capacitive... I had held off but this version definitely makes things way more interesting, thanks for posting this..
I literally was gonna try and rig a cassette player...this is perfect
How much?
$330 buffalo bills
I think it’s cool but it takes a bit more practice than I would have thought. I do wish it had a motor so it could work more like a turntable. That said, I’m going to order some pre looped blank tapes to use with it.
I'm thinking there will be more evolved versions to come
What do you use for stands for your say Circuit or Digitakt?
coffee table
@RUST( i )K
There is quite a few options on Reverb. I use the 3DWaves for a lot of gear, they’re pretty good. I also like the Fraction Industries stands. They have a side by side double stand for the Digi twins that i use, but i know they also have singles.

For Elektrons I've always liked these; matching color and texture, unobtrusive and sturdy:

@RUST( i )K so have you gotten to open the Octatrack?
THanks
Another 7 or so days......lol
Awesome! Thanks for real
