I haven’t personally done it yet but yes samples and loops loaded in stand alone appear in AUv3 version. Save kit under User.
Kit building and backup/restore are done in the standalone version due to restrictions to what an AU can access (per an email from dev Paul). Otherwise everything in the standalone is in the AU. No difference in the UI.
Yes
With other AU apps that work this way, I just fire up the standalone alongside the AU and flip to it when needed to import files. Usually this requires a refresh of some kind in the file browser of the AU in order to see the files.
What’s the CPU hit like on this one? Thinking of my poor old Air 2....is it much more juicy than say, the Ruismakers?
And can you trigger it via Rozeta Rhythm?
Well impressed with the demos.
The next update is coming with drag and drop from files app.
He might also implement files app import when I’m AUv3 mode
i was wondering the same thing. i hope the new update allows direct sample import into Au. erosion > @peanut_gallery said:
In his Sound Test Room Review, I'm glad Doug mentioned that song chain looping might be added to Digistix.
My main uses for Song chain looping would be the following...
• Create a chain of patterns, loop them, then jam to it with an instrument, and come up with musical ideas to use with that pattern chain.
• Create several separate variations of patterns. Quickly switch between and reorganize the patterns of short song chains. Loop each new song chain to audition it and save the best arrangements.
• Makes it easier to experiment with song chains that follow a standard constructions such as "Verse - Chorus - Bridge - Chorus"... If you can just turn on a loop function for repeating a song chain, rather than have to manually enter the same pattern sequence several times in a row.
• Sometimes you may just want to come up with some patterns, link them into a song, loop the song, then jam to it for a while just for fun.
I'm very much liking the new App. Hope Song chain looping can become a part of it in a future update.
It looks great but i think it‘s already to“big“for my needs. All i‘m looking for is a (drum)sampler as slim and straightforward as the Ruismaker Drums. With sequencer would be nice but not a must. But i Guess i‘ll get this one sooner or later anyway.
The range of kits and usable sounds is attracting me to this, just wondering what sort of CPU hit it has.
it’s looking quite low in Cubasis.. compared to other au’s which tend to spike on that none too accurate rough-arsed Cubasis cpu meter. this is with a user kit with nearly all of the effects on ( ie: low pass filter, delay reverb, chorus and a bit of bit crush , no overdrive..
same song in Apematrix all on its lonesome wavers between 6 and 9% on a 2nd gen iLad pro 10.5” with a spike of about 14% when you first hit GO!!
all quite good, main bit that takes a bit of getting used to is the kit saving.. you can save a lot of ipad sample space by saving kits as songs which just have references to already loaded or imported samples.. but if you want to have a user kit that is in yr own bank that you can switch a pattern too, you have to do long presses and ‘make permanent’ any new sample files... including edited files ... AND ... timestretched files.. then make sure to save the kit..
Yes there is a timestretch.. ( no one in youtube land seems to have shown that! ) when you long press on a user kit pad there is an option... it is a none realtime but actual ‘elastique’ type process that you can currently only set to 4,8,16, or 32 beats.. i guess 1 bar 2 4 or 8? or half ! 1 etc.. not sure .. anyway, I might send an email to Paul asking if this could also be just a pitch setting ie: none processed ‘set’ to bar length thingy too?..
some crashing here when replacing samples whilst its running ( maybe not so surprising )
and an oddness or two when making samples permanent and them being blank?? but that may be user error on my part..
still getting to grips it was a late night impulse purchase
On my iPhone 6 and air 1, I was hitting about 20% with every pad going and all the effects enabled. Normal use has been around 6-12%
Even though this is quite fun the controller section could really use tuning per step and some other options
(It just got update with round robin and velocity layers so who knows...).
Thanks Mr Smalls! Could be a late night purchase here too then, along with that modular thingy if it plays nicely with the old Air 2!
Ah thanks, sounds good to go on an Air 2 then
The mixer could show which channels are playing since it's not possible to see pads and mixer at the same time
Not being able to see the pads and select a kit makes kit auditioning tricky.
Or maybe I'm just too picky or something...
in this case... NOT! ;-)
I too, found it a bit ‘ergonomically unsound’ having the pads 2 pages away from the kit select..
I do wonder if the 4P apps reach any testers at all before release to iron out these kind of things?!
The Control section could use, pitch & pan as two added options in addition to velocity.
Even though I got DrumSticks I'll keep it low on getting new apps for a while
The "Controller" tab seems to be only for velocity, is that correct? I had expected it to allow for step sequencing of other parameters, and for midi out to send these as CC. Has that been mentioned as scheduled for the coming updates?
Do you all like the drumsounds??
I see what you did there! In this case, agree that the mixer is hard to decipher.
anybody know how to use the round robin feature in the most recent update ?
I’ll ask again for the last time (my bad!) - has anyone managed to record the midi from DigiStix into NS2? I’ve tried Midi Route, which normally works perfectly, but it’s not working. Cubasis records the midi with no problems, so I’m wondering how best to proceed. If someone uses an app that works for this, I’ll be happy to purchase it instantly. If not, does anyone know the devs email address so I can let him know of the issue? Cheers, folks.
Can’t get it to work. Not really a function I need so I no longer pursue.
1st long press the pad to change the sample
Assign samples to each of the 3 slots.
Then press the options button under the drum kit wave form picture
Then select ROund robin or Velocity
This only works with user kits by the way.
you have to long press on a pad that already has a sample in it.. the. when you try to import another sample a menu giving you velocity layers 1,2 & 3 comes up.. import other samples into those places and when you switch round robin on that pad will cycle around those samples ( 4 seems to be maximum )
the velocity layer doesn’t seem to work from the pads?? but that might be my error and i haven’t got any keyboard with velocity handy.. the round robin definitly works though.. its just there is no way to see any of the other samples assigned there yet or edit them (afaik)
I have not been able to get it to work either. Don’t have the dev’s email address.
I did record it into Photon in AUM and just exported the midi to NS2 and ran it into DigiStix on that. It’s a workaround anyway... haven’t tried using photon as a midi effect in NS2. If that does work, then you could keep it all in NS2: NS2>DigiStix>Photon(record then export to midi library in NS2)
It works for me when recording samples but importing samples seems buggy. Turn on Round Robin for a pad. Record a sample. That will automatically go to layer one. Record a second sample and hit Add Sample. It will ask you what layer to put it on. Use layer two. Repeat and use three. When I try to import samples it will crash on three. I’m not going to worry about it at this time since another update should be out soon.
PS - while I was writing this some other people answered. It looks like everyone has a slightly different approach. I think it’s best to wait for the next update before getting too far into this. It seems to be intermittently buggy. Most of it is brilliant. The next update will also bring some new features. I have no ties to the app. Just been in contact with the dev.
yep, i tried importing and recording in samples and keep getting crashes. i’m sure he will stop out those bugs and get it up and running smoothly in no time. > @anickt said:
