The Launchkey Mini Mk 3 has capture, great pads and an amazing arp. Perfect for Ableton. Quick access to session, drum, device, volume, sends and pan. Might be forgetting some modes here. Long day.
Works great with Groovebox too. I need another one of these. Swapping back and forth a lot.
Using the components software you can now configure the Launchpad to control all manner of things, you can add vertical or horizontal faders for CC's, you can add scale locked or chromatic keyboards, you can add single note or CC pads to use as switches....you no longer have to rely on the apps doing the work, you can configure the device itself.....this is quite a major thing for me.
In theory you should be able to control any app that allows you to map to it's controls.....
One thing I don't know yet, if the entire surface goes to a single channel or if you can send different parts of the surface to difference devices/channels...which would allow you to control both apps and hardware from the same surface...which would be really neat.
@AndyPlankton you can set any midi channel on each pad
But that's just for the 3 (for the mini MK3) or 4 ( the X) user presets. (which is awesome !) you can redirect midi messages then using AUM and AUv3 synths... (maybe with a bit of StreamByter for advanced tricks...)
I don't know what is the default channel for the "Ableton mode" and as for the LaunchPad app mode (assumed) but I guess it's channel 1, then it's adapted to the Ableton live workflow...
For the keyboard default panel, you may assign on the fly on any midi channel.
That's why I'm not sure about the Launchpad app and IOS (does it require a particular firmware not included yet ?)
Awesome
Led feedback is ok ! Problem still that AUv3 does not send values on loading...Maybe it has changed since last time I've checked...

Yeah, this would probably mean I’d buy it. Otherwise not worth it for me.
Theoretically you can use MK2 with steambyter too. I just bought one a month ago to do this. Saved a $100 but changing color per pad would be nice.
Prices?
Man I never really used my LPADPRO much......
I feel like next grid for me is an AKAI stand alone or Ableton PUSH official controller ............
I am still hoping for a new MINI PEAK by XMAS......
This was my first thought when I got streambyter...but I couldn't be arsed writing scripts for it in the end.
I have them in my head though....I figured you could have multiple pages for multiple apps/hardware.....do this by having a set of arrays for each page that you want, one for on colour, 1 for off colour, one for state (on or off), one for pad mode (cc, Note, PC), one send value (Note CC or program number, one for MIDI Channel number.......buttons along the top for switching pages....would be really neat if you pull it off...
@AndyPlankton I've tested it with mfxConvert AU and it works well enough for swapping notes to program change messages but I have yet to make a complete setup. Probably will keep things simple, heh.
Would love to see this in practice. You using it to control the sense in Groovebox? Or are you controlling the clip launching?
If you search the forums you would see my "Launchpad script dreams" to control Modstep that never came out...
I guess now with this new hardware and editor + StreamByter or Mosaic the dream would come true
To refresh my mind...

Oh, well now I'm using Xequence 2
@SevenSystems that would perfectly work if the "marker track trick" would allow external midi control...
BTW I've noticed that going thru markers will go directly to the next loop after 1 bar, it would be great to set "go to the next marker while finishing the actual loop"...
Also add mute/solo control, play/stop (midi, so independent of Link...) , BPM modulation, then it's done
Ah no, one last thing, the midi marker track should feedback midi values, not sure how the Launchpad X is reacting to midi signals, but to reflect of what's actually going on with the sequencer...
Maybe an addon for live to X2 ?...
Thanks ?
Unfortunately I would need to hire a camera person and probably a cleaner before launching my YouTube channel!
This little keyboard didn’t get very much attention, I’m guessing that will change over time.
I’m using the device controls and mutes most often when paired with Groovebox. Using the arpeggiator with all my synths, best I’ve used on any hardware device.
To avoid potential confusion, I’m talking about the LaunchKEY mini 3 here in this Launchpad thread.
so these controllers are better than pancakes but don't support external hardware in the way that the launchpad pro does, you'd have to still go through a computer to use these with your hardware is that correct?
Use this: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UDBT01--yamaha-ud-bt01-wireless-bluetooth-usb-to-host-midi-adapter
I use it with my midi Twistor all the time.
Connect the Bluetooth adapter to power brick and connect to it from your iPad.
Thank you
Getting ready for it's arrival
thanks for the tip, will look into this
@echoopera
Oh this is also very compatible with iPad and apps and stuff?!? Hmm 🤔 Christmas coming up (although i was playing with CBA Mood already in my mind )
I will definitely know more on Friday...but I think it will just work as expected.
Did you get the mini? Or the X?
It’s like a Rave. I picked up the X model.
Haha! So it is.
That reminds me of my bother, who was a waiter when we were all going to those underground house parties on the Lower East Side. He would always have to work till 2 and show up late to the party. We'd have dropped our medicine and were always in that state of Is it kicking in yet?? Now? and without fail, he'd burst in and you were off.
His nickname, therefore, was X-Friendly.
@crony many good ideas there, some already on the roadmap. However, Xequence will probably still prioritize on non-live use, so I'm not sure about "wait until current loop finishes" and similar features... lots of things to shuffle around on the roadmap so inevitably some stuff has to fall through 😧
iOS app version of Components, please.
Update!
Deleted my post because as it turns out a Novation rep on a different thread here commented that they are making the new launch pads iOS compatible.
Now we need to see if Novation has a plan to give us an iOS version of components so we can be totally free from our desktops, cos y’all know googles programmers still not sharp enough to give us web-midi on Chrome for iOS.
Anyways see. Comments below.
@SMKArtist no it's working, I needed to make sure, but it's functional I've ordered a Launch X...
And I think that the online editor might be used directly connected to the iPad
Need to test that, but I don't see why it wouldn't work...
