If people write to Paul about making this one change -- perhaps he will give it some attention while the recent changes are fresh on his mind.

Just emailed him and pointed him towards this thread

  • Version 1.17 is out:

  • Quick question with Multi Track is it hard wired to record in at 48Kz Sample Rate. Currently on a iPad Pro 9.7 which I tend to use on 44.1Kz for most things when using DAWs.

However Multitrack recently keeps throwing up banners saying I can’t record in at this sample rate or won’t let me transfer wav files into it as saying sample rate wrong. Never had this problem with any other apps in the past.

I know the newer iPads seem to be hard wired at 48Kz was just wondering what’s going on with Multi Track ?

I just tried to integrate MTR into my MIDI controller setup fir AUM and I noticed some problems and also some missing remote funtionality.

    1. The exposed binary MIDI controls (value is 0 or 1) are defined as values not as toggles. This renders them useless when mapping them to hardware buttons as they don’t keep their value.
    2. I would like some more parameters: arm tracks, loop on/off, maybe also position to beginning/end of loop
    3. Well, I think I’d also like that the remote mode could be customized and the users can configure which functions are controlled by the host. That would make it possible to disable that the record button being is controlled by the host when being in remote mode. This is a very much requested feature. In this context it would be great then if the remote functions could also be MIDI mapped.

Does the new version still require Record to be pressed in the Host in remote mode? Paul gave me the impression that would not be the case in the new version.

Answering my own question: in remote mode, you can now record without pressing record in the host.

  • MTR can only record from bus 1,2,3 right? So it's not possible to run 8 MTRs to be able to record 8 tracks at the same time right?

You could record into multiple instances of MTR with each one set to record on a different track. It is a little messy u.i. wise because MTR is not made to have multiple copies of the same song open in different instances and update them accordingly. But you can at least do the recordings and have them in the song's pool.

If you haven't, you may want to contact 4Pockets directly.

Perhaps there is a more elegant solution that I have overlooked.

I sometimes feel that recording songs on iOS is one big workaround.

Workflow must be optimized in any situation on any platform, desktop, laptop or iOS.

Awesome! The long awaited missing piece!
Kudos to you for convincing Paul to do it and of course to Paul (@4pockets) for listening!
Can't wait to try this out. B)

  • Thanks to everyone who lobbied for the remote recording without arming AUM! I used and enjoyed this program today, for the first time...

I don’t get any credit on this one — I have the sense this change was in motion by the time I contacted him. Other birds must have been whispering in his ear.

This is probably off topic , so excuse me in advance, but I was reading about this update and it got me thinking about Paul and 4pockets...
I find Paul a true wonder and mistery!. He releases apps and updates at a truly astonishing rate. And we’re not talking about minor tweaks of fixes, but really complex functionality that he pulls out in a couple or days while presumably working on next week’s new app!.
Sort of a genius, if you ask me...

I’m gonna give some unsolicited and probably bullshit advice....
4pockets should slow down. They should give their, otherwise amazing apps, some “baking” time. Things like not having a “save as” function are small details that totally spoil the experience, that was the case until recently in DigiStix and it drove me nuts. In a similar manner the user interface doesn’t live up to the functionality, this has been discussed at length in this forum, it’s just not pleasing to look and interact with. I’d say investing a little more time in these details, having more beta testing (and listening to users) would greatly improve these apps. I’d go as far to say it’d make them the true champions of iOS music devs. They got the knowledge, the expertise and already make amazing developments in a wide spectrum of applications. A little attention to details that might seem trivial would take them a long way. In some cases mediocre apps are very inviting because of workflow and looks, and I think that it’s sadly the opposite with 4pockets apps. They’re a lot better than they look, and looks are important!.

Sorry for the long and probably out of place post. I’ll go and open multitrack now... 😬

I totally agree with this.. For me, a nice, preferable AUM-esque interface would go a long way toward making these plugins more enjoyable! :)

  • Version 1.18 is out:

  • Looping 101 - Beginners Guide to Looping with MultiTrack.

  • really hard-working dev!

  • Wow, good to see updates are still going in for this. I feel the need for a printable guide for all of those keyswitches!

  • Excellent! Looking forward to giving this a go

    Any hope for bug fixing?

I always have to make sure before I play that it’s on the beginning of time line and stil it’s sometimes starts out of sync.

If there’s any other reliable solution for a similar product I would buy it.

None, if you don't report specific, reproducible bugs directly to the developer, rather than vague one-sentence comments on a forum that the developer probably doesn't check on a regular basis.

    snip

But forget it if you don't plan to make the effort. Then there is a 100% chance it will not be fixed.

If you open Help (under the '+' menu), it describes the full MIDI implementation. I grabbed that section, reformatted it, and attached it as a PDF.

It can do non-realtime time-stretch.You select a clip and tell it to time stretch it and it will render audio for a new event. It doesn't do transposing -- but that isn't surprising -- the app is designed as a virtual multi-track recorder which is something it does nicely.

  • I've had success exporting from the Audio Pool to Koala, tweaking there, then bringing it back into the Audio Pool as a processed clip. Not as immediate, but workable.

  • Is there a way to move to a new song without getting out of sync?

  • You can load multiple instances in AUM, each with a different song loaded. Would that work?

Facts. I just have like 1 or 2 4pockets apps, even that i love almost all the apps that he made. I will not buy it because all of them are like "almost finished", constant beta versions

BTW, Multitrack update looks AWESOME ! Will try it NOW.
