    Holy sh*,
    and I thought I was GAS-safe :o :#

  • Santa Baby.........I love old patents don't you......Santa baby, I cannot afford a real Moog, Santa baby, patents expired alright, playing a poly D by New Year's Night....

  • Wait a sec, what kind of polyphony is it, looks more like paraphony with only one oscillator per voice??

In the videos the chords sound more like they're paraphonic :/
Guess that's why they had no choice but to add the Juno-style chorus.

not sure they could get away with calling it a poly D if it was paraphonic? but you are probably right.

It's paraphonic not really polyphonic .. 4 osc mono, or 2 voice poly in unison mode, or 4 voice poly when each voice is 1 oscillator .. also i think it doesn't have really 4 filters with 4 envelopes, but just one filter with envelope .. so it's paraphonic ..

Price will tell more, in case it will be not more than 450 EUR then it is will be very interesting synth for that price .. juno style chorus plus build in overdrive are cool, they expand sonic range in very nice way ..

  • Looks paraphonic to me too.

  • They've also released a clone of the Wasp. They're releasing synths faster than 4pockets release plug-ins! ;-)

  • It is paraphonic not polyphonic - confirmed by Firechild. Maybe they thought Para D sounds like taking the piss.

    haha!

  • Definitely looks Paraphonic. 4 oscillators.

  • OK then let's just buy four of their Mini clones :D
Seriously, open Model D on your iPad and play a few polyphonic patches next to the ones in the videos. I think the Model D sounds better.

Funny how the old stuff comes around again, but with new knickers on.

My mate bought a Wasp when it came out, it was shite and comprehensively ridiculed by the rest of the band with their shiny Moogs, Rolands and Korgs.

So is the Poly D just a Parody? (Para D)?

Maybe they could come out with a Dolly Parton tribute, The Dolly D (because she has a Pair-o-Ds)!

If Behringer fails, at the funeral they will be delivering a Uli-G.

    :D

I was thinking double D's I have to admit.

  • hope they do a version without the keyboard

Isn't the keyboard + layout the whole point of this one?

I think it is. I wouldn't get one of these - this is just too too much for me (and I'm not a B hater, I have the D and the Neutron) . At least the Boog was a different form factor and all that. Ick. Not to mention - I don't need it!!!! hehehehehehehehehe

  • I had the Korg Mono/Poly back in the day. I don’t recall anybody much cared that it was paraphonic. It still was a great synth. Looks like B has made a Frankenstein of Moog, Roland and Korg parts. 😆

If I was in the market for hardware I’d consider one.

it's a turn off for me, much prefer a desktop module which I can add my own type of keyboard if necessary since I use sequencers and other controllers much more than keys. It also might bring the cost of it down.

A lot is going to depend on how they price this one IMO. This would make sense to me under $500 (US) for classic looks + controller + para D style synth package. Above that, I wouldn't say it's too much: it doesn't look like enough! (Heck, I find the Microfreak to be a much more powerful synth. Even $500 is a lot for this..)

Of note: the effect package they went for is a lot less powerful than what they put in their Odyssey. Might be a hint that they are looking to keep this cheap?

It's not polyphonic, though, just paraphonic. So as a desktop synth it wouldn't make sense to sell this alongside their existing Model D...

the reissue minimoog will put you back nearly 4000 dollars, the poly D will be more than 500 dollars, rumour is 700-900 dollars. Awesome if it was under 500 bucks though!

It's interesting. The problem with 700-900 is that, if this is indeed paraphonic (and not polyphonic), it lands between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, you get the US made Moogs: especially the Sub Phatty for bass and leads, and the Grandmother. On the other, you get true poly synths like the Minilogue XD.

It's interesting. If this is indeed paraphonic (rather than a true poly), I'm willing to bet this will be a flop if the price is as close to the Sub Phatty, the Grandmother, and e.g. the Minilogue XD as you say..

really? I imagine them selling tens of thousands of units.

Oops, I was editing my above comment with a clearer explanation before I saw your reply. You might be right. The specs make me think they need to get much more of an edge with the price for this to do well. But maybe there's more demand for the classic looks than I realize.
