Never got into Puppy very much but I do love Download / cEvin Key / Phil Western (RIP homie :( ) / Plateau, Beehatch and the tendrils extending out to DVOA and Psychic TV etc

Favorite albums would be Effector, Helicopter, Music For Cats, Gort Spacebar, Furnace

Never saw them live but I did get to hang out with Phil and chat with him a few times.

  • I organized and put out a Tribute album to Skinny Puppy with an amazing collection of artists // free to download. There’s also Tributes to Ministry, NIN, Coil, Bile

  • Man, I was so bummed when I found out about Phil. Heard he was good guy

Speaking of Ministry. Seen this amazing olde footage scattered around the YT? Amazing quality for such a small venue/act so long ago... 1984!

And no Download related thread is complete without...

  • My favorite is VIVIsectVI

  • ViviSectVI is legendary @jolico

That’s awesome @AudioGus / did you see this gem?

  • Download is one of the few live acts left on my bucket list. Not sure if he’s going to keep it going or not. Did see a cEvin Key DJ set years ago and got to chat with him a bit.

  • Can’t forget about aDuck (RIP) // always wished there was a full album from him

Good choice, @iOSTRAKON, "Harsh stone white" represents pretty good what Skinny Puppy means to me: the contrast between hard industrial noise and wonderful synth lines. I remember that a friend of mine bought the Spasmolytic EP and it took some time until i got into it but since then i am addicted...
Edit: I was talking about „Shore lined poison“ of course, as this was chosen in the OP, but still the same goes for „Harsh stone white“

  • “harsh stone white” is a abrasive yet beautiful track, one of my favorite

  • Hearing Testure (12" version) changed my life back in the 80s - still my favorite track. Too Dark Park is prob my favorite album overall, but I kinda like Last Rights, Cleanse Fold and Manipulate, and Rabies, too.

Seen them once or twice in concert... Last Rights was the last time, I think. Not as much into them now. I remember sitting and talking with Ohgr in some crappy diner downtown Seattle about ProTools from some point in time, as well. Also long ago.

I had sushi with William Morrison (Ohgr guitarist and Puppy videographer etc). He told me some crazy Genesis P Orridge stories.

  • Heard ohGr is very cool down to earth fella.

Hard to believe there’s a normal Genesis story ;)

Noise makers should check out Ken Hiwatt Marshall’s youtube channel. Very very good content and the dude is pure energy. For those not in the know, he was very Important to The Skinny Puppy legacy.

I stumbled on his channel a little while ago. Was neat to put a face to the mystery name behind Eyes of Stanley Pain. i think he was working for EA here in town at the time maybe...?

  • Really? Well he did work with Key on the Scaremeister (for movies/tv) project

  • I was always partial to Rabies; it was the first of their albums I picked up as I was into Ministry when it released and there was some connection there. Too Dark Park is great too. Saw them live for Last Rites I think?

Haven't listened to Skinny Puppy in probably 20 years though :)

  • You should check out the latest release, they went old school in a way

    Cool, thanks for the recommendation!

  • Smothered Hope by Ministry sung by Ohgr is a favorite.

OMG I could talk about this for days.

Skinny Puppy and Download are THE reason I got into making music. The first time I heard the song "Download" off Last Rights I was hooked. Headphones on and WTF is this craziness. Years of making music at all levels from beginner to professional, and I still have no idea how they are making some of those sounds, and I don't care.

Last Rights is by far my favorite Puppy album, but Download's "III" has always been my favorite album of all time. No question. I grew up in Chicago on WaxTrax music, but SP always took things in a totally different direction. It's been a dream of mine for years to work with cEvin if I ever cound.

On that note, the new Download album is GREAT. "Takadanobaba"... awesome.

  • Also, check out "Frozen Sky" on Ghosts of Each Room.
