Yay! I really like that app!
does this app work as a virtual MIDI controller for other apps?
I just got this the other day and I would describe it as Band in the Box for iPad (closest thing I could think of). It has a bunch of different styles with many possible drum parts, bass lines, piano and guitar parts for each style and you can have multiple styles per song (such as latin switching to swing), up to 8 parts per song I think. You type in chords for each measure (or part of a measure) including advanced jazz chords and it generates an audio track. You can set the tempo and volume of each part and it can generate MIDI files for each part so that you can copy into your fav midi DAW and work them with later.
I hope this helps!!
It's a very cool and useful app. Good to have it on the bus.
@hypoetical No, it doesn't, just MIDI export.
Just got it. It's a cracking little app, simple to use and nice midi export into cubasis. I can see this as being a very useful app, for the price I would def recommend to anyone.
Absolutely. I thought I was pretty awesome before I realized it did midi export. I used it to play with new progressions without ever even realizing its midi potential.
wow. Never heard of this app until now. Just bought it and I'm amazed at how versatile it is for building backing tracks or simple melodies to jam to with guitar (Jamup Pro in my case).
I haven't even yet explored the possibilites of using these tracks with Auria or Cubasis, but this opens a whole new area of composing on the go.
This is a great time to be making music on iOS!!!
Very nice!
I have it so it's good to know its on the bus. If you like this, have a look at Yahama's Mobile Music Sequencer too, it kind of does the same thing but more powerful and you can record full length tracks too alongside the sequenced sections.
@AH_MediaDesigns I totally agree with PhilW. Not taking anything away from Chordbot, but Mobile Music Sequencer is much more feature rich than Chordbot. I have them both.
chordbot is nice. it was the first chord seq I used on iOS and I stuck with it for a while. Useful tool that stays simple and out of your way. The style setting is a nice feature to give you a general idea how you might like to play the chord progressions
I moved on to ProChords at some point which is good. gives chord suggestions based on common tones or the circle of fifths, secondary dominants maybe even...
@uglykidmore - Yeah...ProChords is a nice app for working through progressions, although I like the AudioCopy of MIDI aspect in ChordBot, rather than having to email them, which is the case in ProChords.
@mgmg4871 I checked out the Yamaha sequencer on the app store, but it looks like it also has actual sequencer functions, which I don't need since I'm using Cubasis. It just seems a bit over the top.
Chordbot is perfect as a helper for chord progressions. I like the simplicity and straightforward approach.
That being said, with all these alternate apps, Garageband's smart instruments are quickly becoming obsolete.
@AH You're right about Garageband.
I uninstalled GarageBand a long time ago. I only have a 32 gb iPad, so that space was quickly taken up by other audiobus supporting apps. Not ragging on GrageBand at all. The interface was...well...Apple. The sounds were great too. It just didn't present enough flexibility for me to invest any more time or disk space in.
@boone51 I agree. I couldn't have both GB and BM2 on the iPad at the same time, as both of them come with a wealth of audio samples that take up between 500-800mb! I do love the sound of the smart strings in GB, but don't use orchestral tones often enough to make it worthy of a spot on my device.
I still have GB installed, but I rarely use it given all the AB apps I now have.
@uglykidmoe - then take into account that I probably have another gig or more of my own samples I've brought into BM2. Space gets tight quick. The 128 GB iPad is very attractive, but I don't want to have to sell one of my kids on the blackmarket to get it.
@boone51 so sell them all... problem solved ;-)
@PhilW I'd love to try mobile music sequencer but it seems to be US only. Great way to gain sales that - prevent most of the world from buying your app !
Actually, if you do a direct search for Mobile Music Sequencer in the iTunes App store, you should be able to find a version specifically for your country. If you follow an internet link to the US specific version, you'll get the message you are talking about.
I'm not sure why Yamaha has different versions of the same app for different regions.
I'm in the UK so it definitely is not only available in the US.
U create a melodic progression with chordbot. Then add an original guitar lead to it
Can u sell that piece to your client??
Burning question for me
New to composing so confused
Plz clarify..
Thanx in advance
@sud Good news for you, from the developers website... http://chordbot.com/faq.php
CAN I USE SONGS I CREATE IN CHORDBOT FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES?
Absolutely. You are hereby awarded a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free license to use anything you create in Chordbot for commercial recording and performance purposes throughout the known universe, for any medium that exists now or in the future.
Easiest by far to create chord progressions. I wish other apps would mimic the way they designate chords.
I know Chordbot has MIDI export out, but I haven't it to be usable into other apps I use.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yamaha mobile seq mot working in audiobus.
Gets initialization error message.
Just bought full version. That little intro it comes with got my song making juices flowing:).Sold.
I forgot about this one but it was very useful for getting my creative ideas going. I would not mind if they added some more instruments and patterns again either. One wonders what this developer has been up to and if perhaps a new endeavor was forthcoming or perhaps at least an update?
Have been playing with Chordbot some and having re-read through this thread would love to hear from anyone who can add/comment on Mobile Music Sequencer as an alternative at this point....
I wish I could add a positive spin on MMS but for some reason I can't get anything done with it. It has some very good tools available but the app just doesn't click with me. It may be that I haven't spent enough time with it.
Chordbot on the other hand is really very easy to get a tune going. The randomize feature can be rather samey but at times produces some decent progressions with a little editing.
