So if it can't be reinstalled, Apple have to refund everybody legally, right ?

Nope, unfortunately not. I learned this lesson years ago when EA removed the iOS version of the Bioshock game from the app store, just a month or two after I bought it. I E-mailed a refund request to Apple, to which the reply stated that they could do nothing about it - that it wasn’t their responsibility. Same story with flight control and another couple apps that were removed over the years. The best luck I’ve had was in getting an app restored to my purchase list so I could at least download it again.

we’re basically just renting/leasing every app we “buy” - Apple and the developers reserve the right to revoke the lease at any time.

  • It’s still showing up in the App Store “My Purchases” section so you can download again. But I’ve deleted it now as it could break on any future iOS update.

  • Are you sure that iMazing can extract apps from its backups? I was under the impression that backups don’t contain the actual app binaries though I could be wrong.

iMazing does let you download binaries of apps you own if they are still in the store, but I don’t think you can restore an app you didn’t download this way directly .... but would be happy to find out that I am wrong. Makes me wish that I had downloaded KRFT that way.

  • I don’t think y’all should write off Studio Amplify and KRFT... I think these wizards will be back before DRAMBO ever shows her face.. and no, I am not part of the team.. just my prediction..

Yah I was thinking maybe there is a new rebranded company thing going on or maybe they will be under another umbrella/sign on with another crew etc etc. My good faith is based largely on the fact that on day one at full price this app was magical, functioned great and the updates went above and beyond what I expected. I imagine that this specific app is probably over though.

I don’t know. Removing the app so as not to be accessible to purchasers two years after release seems like a bad sign.

That thread is over a year old and most likely resulted in the rebrand to SoundMind and the release of Cosm in May. Considering all of those apps and their Studio Amplify website are gone, I'm not holding my breath....

A shame, KRFT was very cool as a performance sequencer - I didn't use it that much however, as I was waiting for MIDI input, which they talked about adding right up to announcing ending development on the app.

I can't fault them, but it does make me leery spending too much time and money on iOS apps; it's just too ephemeral.

I do spend the time and the money but yah, dust in the wind.

  • KRFT and Cosm are back in the app store - according to @w3epy the outage was due to an issue with the developer account.

KRFT help docs also do appear to be back online, but the Network (and Forum, Videos etc.) remain offline.
Thus this app continues to be semi-defunct - no ready-made surfaces available for new users, no transfer of surfaces between devices. At this point I consider this app to be somewhere between abandonware and ghostware. I do not think it could be recommended, unless this is addressed.

    Woow. Thanks for the info.

  • Not available in your region....Europe cannot access KRFT on apple store

  • Ironic. Just last night I finally decided to delete KRFT since I don't see the point in spending time in it if I can't transfer songs to another device. I asked myself "Do you really want to risk losing it forever if it drops off of the App Store?" I decided to delete it anyway.

Great app and it still worked the last time I used it. But having a server as the only way to transfer anything isn't acceptable for me, even if they did keep the server running.

  • Very sad. In the "could have been a contender" category, for sure.

I said it before, but it bears repeating, Works so well with NS2... practically a companion app to me.

That's weird, I (also european) bought KRFT a few months ago (october 11th) when supposedly it was still "missing" from the app store...

    As a midi controller/playground it is still a dreamboat...maybe iOS best-in-class

  • I can't say if KRFT is abandoned or not... but I can say that the devs were 2 guys. I'm not certain is they're still partnered, but one of them invited me to beta test a audio/video effects app. Really more for the TikTok crowd, but potentially other uses.

I know that the half of the KRFT development team I've been in contact with... recently moved countries and this move has obviously caused some delays while he gets set up again with a new place and all. I think the last beta update was about a month ago.

Next time I'm in contact I'll ask if KRFT is gone for good or not. My guess is that some of it likely has to do with the fact that at least one of the developers is now living in a new country. I don't know though. If I find out anything I'll pass it on.

They were talking about potentially putting in X/Y controllers back in the day...

Gah, the way you can just drop buttons on top of each other to quickly controller two things at once with one finger... loved it.

it’s still s##t hot and dead sexy

In spite of the fact that it’s IAA. And while it’s true you can’t back up to the cloud anymore, scenes saving in-app works.

I would totally love to use it with Maschine if it could record midi CC.

PS. Maschine can't record midi CC?

One of the KRFT devs is still in the process of moving. With in-laws in the new country now. He wasn't aware that KRFT wasn't available. Said he'll see what's going on and get back to me. Might not actually be dead. :)

Would be great to get an official word on the server situation too.

    Sad 😢 but there’s a slight hope.
    Contender would be great.
Let’s start looking for billionaire entrepreneur that would buy all the amazing dead apps and get it updated.

    Would Elon musk be interested?

  • Such a great concept. The performance aspect of the app is to me really tailored for touch interface. Hope it makes a come back!

  • Was it way ahead of its time..

It was right on time but I imagine the iOS market wasn't worth it to continue development. It was a blast. Once the server died and you couldn't backup/transfer projects... sigh. If only they did a final Files support version that could transfer projects.

Somethings we can learn from it as we move on.. The Snapshots is one thing… hitting them (quickly), you can create a ‘stutter/repeat’ effect and they remain in-sync..
