  • Cool, I’m still working on editing the vid. It’s an AUM session with Poly 2 and some other apps (screen record)

Cool, I hear ya. I found a way to experiment to add some texture to my vids. Had fun with it last night and looking forward to see what you add to it. Great work @jrmgx

You can show me what you've done with it, I like to have real use cases so I can focus on what is used.
If you prefer you can send me a PM

  • Okay, I'm about to update the App and as I told you I'm not a marketing guy or anything near to it
I'd love if you can have a look at my instagram profile https://www.instagram.com/glitchclipapp/
and tell me which video is more appealing to you so I can update the preview on the store with something similar?

Also I wrote a new description, it's going to be:

Title: Glitch Clip: VJ for everyone
Subtitle: Crazy, funky live video effect
Description: Create generative videos thanks to artsy visual effects
A/B blending, kaleidoscope, mosaic, twist and more
and make creative VJing shows with live music and MIDI binding

(all those field have limited character count)

    Any feedback is welcome

A big thank you for your help

  • The videos have no sound?

  • Yeah wasn't sure if it was just me since I was using the browser version of IG (Don't use it anymore). Just going on visuals I'd say the one with yellow and blue, but if they have sound I'd liked to have heard it and see how it affected the visuals

  • The videos have no sound (except one) it's because the App itself does not handle sound, it would lead to deceptive download if videos had sound and the App does not, don't you think?

  • Yeah, fair. It's just that syncing midi (and sound) to the app is an integral part to what it offers.. that's a tricky balance. I can envision no matter how many times you say "This app doesn't make sound" you'd still get a 1 star review "YO THIS APP BROKE DOESN'T MAKE SOUND WTF"

I don't have a great solution here lol :( I still say the visualizer with the yellow and blue

@jrmgx Loving this app, thanks for making this. Upgraded to expert. Using it on my last two Jamuary Instagram posts, also followed. Give the app a shout-out in my posts.

I'd love it if you could save presets and customize midi CC values.

Nice one! I'd love to see the base clip by curiosity
Also you will be glad to know that the last version (published yesterday and live now) has some kind of binding presets
It now offers a default binding for MIDI and keyboard and allows 2 user defined presets!
Let me know what you think about it (and I'm not sure I understood the part about customizing CC values)

Awesome, @jrmgx regarding updates. More presets or ability to save projects with existing images and settings would be fantastic. Regarding MIDI CC, I meant, could it possible to have user settings of which MIDI CC a parameter uses, such as change CC 15 to 47 or something else?

For both the last two posts, I combined two different giphy together. Actually, that makes think that would be great to different settings per clip. Like flip, reverse one, and control the speed of each, etc.

For the whole "project" thing I'll think about it but remember that the goal is to be very user friendly and it's sometime hard to add feature without complexifying everything.
About the MIDI CC change, it should be already the case, have a read at https://jerome.gangneux.net/glitch-clip/#expert
you should be able to touch the name of an effect and then "use" the CC action you'd like, that way they will be associated (and even saved into the user preset if you selected one)

Monday I'll prepare some new help video for the new version
    Have a great day

  • Cool, missed that regarding MIDI CC, thank you. Makes sense regarding presets, something to consider for project/performances.

  • @jrmgx
When importing our own videos into Glitchclip, I like that it converts the video to the correct dimensions, frame rate, and length.

What would be really useful is if we could select which part of a longer video gets converted and imported. A couple of markers that you could slide around on the playback range, with a maximum of a 10 second span, to mark the section of the user video to convert and import.

I am using LumaFusion to create clips now, but being able to stay in Glitchclip and create clips would be great.

Also, if you could add a Camera function to record videos in the correct format automatically could also be very useful.

Just a couple of suggestions for you.
I am really loving this app.
I will probably get the Midi IAP when I get some funds, as that looks like it really makes this app quite unique.

  • I like it
    but please, rotate the UI
    iPad Pro 12

  • @rafaelollero Glitch Clip UI is landscape on iPad, same as Takete, TouchViz, TagTool, etc.

While portrait mode is not such as much of a nuisance in a VJ app as it is in a music app, I still prefer landscape on iPad Pro.

I know that..I mean that is upside down on my iPad

Will do in the next version,
it should come quite soon, with — hopefully — a pretty big surprise (and a bunch of new funky filters)

    THANKS

  • @jrmgx i rather like this. I have a couple of feature suggestions...

Ability to import an audio file to play along to.
Ability to keep the controls on screen when recording, but the generated video file obviously shouldn’t have the controls on.

These two things would make it a really nice tool for just generating a quick and dirty music video, or for creating clips to use in a more polished edit.

About the audio, I'm not ready (technically and also about what I want to do with this project) to handle it, but I'm not saying it will never happen.

For your second point, it will be done in the next version.
    It's a great idea.

    Thank you for your help!

  • @jrmgx Amazing, thanks. In my testing / playing I worked around point 1 by playing a track in the background and then stitched the audio and video together in Lumia Fusion.

Glad you found a way to make it work for you, for now it is in fact a video app only and it meant to be used like you did
I personally do the same with audio coming from Live and the plus here is that I send MIDI signals too to keep it in sync for some effects
    See an example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UUGFDciDurID5U496UtkqRTQ&v=i2M0xYnASUc&feature=emb_title

  • Trying out the midi link now. Is it possible to send signals from Beatmaker or another DAW running on the same device? I can’t seem to get it to recognise any incoming signal.

  • @drcongo it seems to connect to (receive MIDI from) all devices. I have suggested that it provide a virtual MIDI destination so that other apps can send MIDI to it. I'd also like to see an input filter implemented so that the user can select the MIDI source(s).

  • Thanks @mojozart, those sound like good suggestions.

  • Regarding the MIDI bindings, this sounds like a significant limitation:

“You are right: on a single device you'll have to plug an other instrument in the device,
you can not have an app running on the device to control Glitch Clip (it's kind of an iPad limitation).”

That is from a previous post by the dev. Could be the source of @drcongo issues?

  • @lukesleepwalker well, I’ve managed to successfully control it from the midi out of Pure Acid. It’s fiddly to set up, as there’s a lot of switching back and forth between apps, but it works and it’s pretty cool. I’m still nowhere near a power user in Beatmaker 3, so I could just be failing to set up the midi out correctly, but it doesn’t seem to recognise midi events on a network session from Beatmaker.

Some easier way of mapping things and acting as a midi destination so it shows up in other apps would be pretty killer. The app is very fast, transitions / effects are pretty much instant.

  • Here’s ten seconds spent hooking it up to midi out of Pure Acid (WARNING FLASHING IMAGES)

If it worked with Beatmaker I’d spend hours hooking up the various functions to midi signals, here all I did was randomly assign 4 different clips, the blender, and the randomise feature to whatever Pure Acid was playing as I hit assign.

  • edited January 2020

Wow, @drcongo that was intense! Glad you got it working. BM3 MIDI out is a complex beast for sure so not surprised that it's been dicey. But I would like confirmation that I could use a MIDI app like MidiFire on the same iPad to predictably control this app before jumping in. Hope it works because I like what you created in that video!

I also think the lack of presets/projects makes this hard to imagine for live use.

  • FWIW, I ran my MIDI sources on a 2nd iPad and used midimittr for routing.

First of all I'm really happy to see what you've made with Glitch Clip!
It's exactly why I made this App.

    Now some news:
    - I'm going to work on the MIDI part so it would work as expected (not capturing all devices)
    - I'm pretty sure the iPad does not allow multi MIDI App working together (but I may be wrong, i'll investigate this when working on the point above)
    - I made a public roadmap for the App here: https://workflowy.com/s/glitch-clip-roadmap/hoq4WMlWr4VfdJPS (note that it takes about 2 weeks to go though a version, and I'm mid-version 1.4 right now)
    - I'll work on exportable MIDI bindings so if someone has configured Beatmaker once, he could share it with other Glitch Clip user!

Thank you all for your feedbacks!
