Any apps like Ndlr?
I know, and love, the Rozeta Collider and Particles, but I'm wondering if there's something a bit deeper that is similar to Ndlr (https://conductivelabs.com/). I love the idea of the unit, but I don't have $350 right now to drop. I'm trying to slowly build a live ambient rig using my iPad, Digitone, occasionally a Virus and 0Coast, and eventually an Octatrack. While I can do some stuff with the Rozeta apps, I feel like they're a bit to simplistic for what I'm going for and still require a bit to much direction.
If I were to build it using Rozeta, I'd probably use a mix of Collider, Scaler, Arp, and Cells.

Here's a recent thread on this topic.
Aaaaaaand next time I'll use the search function. Thanks.
Hey @slicetwo been a while since you asked this. Curious whether you ever came up with a setup that’s close(ish) to what the NDLR does?
Or maybe you just bought a NDLR in the end??
Neither! I totally forgot all about it. I get distracted easily
Seeing that terse replay from past me, hopefully that reply didn't come across as rude! It was just a quick on the go reply to point you at prior discussion in case you didn't get anything here.
Life tends to get in the way
Well I too am trying to understand how viable it is to build a homebrew NDLR from apps and hardware controllers. The app shortlist (much of it derived from that other thread you were linked to) is:
Generative sequencing / arp
Rozeta suite - interplay between the modules
Cykle
Riffer
Polyphase
Poly 2
Autony
Refraktions
Aphelian
Fugue Machine (sort of)
Mozaic (various scripts)
Wotja
NDLR also does chords in scale/key so:
ScaleBud
Quantichord
Navichord
Chordpadx
Mozaic (Chordulator or chord magic)
*Some synths such as Magellan2 have chord makers that could be used
NDLR does droning and drones imply latching:
Midi Tools (latch function)
Mozaic (latchkeys)
By the way NDLR can also latch chords indefinitely and allows you to cleanly move to a new chord when the notion takes you. But when you want to change latched chords during a live performance on ios that’s problematic with most apps. Ideally the app will automatically unlatch the previous chord when a new one is struck but the only apps that do this (that I’ve found) are the IceGear synths, which are brilliant. Arp-wise Rozeta arpeggiator’s latch also does this when chords are sent through it - but that’s an arp! Would love to see the awesome Midi Tools add this option, currently you must explicitly unlatch notes by sending them a second time (which is the norm to be fair but restrictive/messy when it comes to live performance).
Control-wise the NDLR is a box with buttons and dials, so ideally the apps above should be controllable via midi hardware. Thus midi in/learn capabilities in the above apps is highly valued. And because the solution involves an assortment of tools, state saving through audiobus or auv3 inside a host like AUM is almost a must.
Need to add one or two more apps from these lists, then I can get cracking...
In addition to the list above, I'd add that using miRack sequencers in combination with the above can be a great combo. With mirack as an midi AU, it's possible to use it to control other midi AUs as well, which leads to sometimes dynamic and interesting results.
Hmm, can’t Quantum do all of the above?
Don’t know Quantum but it appears to be ultimately a step sequencer. Does it do indefinitely latched droning/chords?
Thanks for the suggestion by the way - always gratefully received
I think so. It has per step/note latch and chord options. Here’s the chords screen.
Quantum isn't AU.
Indeed. It’s Achilles heel. But the OP didn’t specify that so might still fit the bill.
Interestingly it does support state saving in audiobus https://audiob.us/apps/search/Quantum
ChordPolyPad AUV3 for Chords in Scale/Key into StepPolyArp AUV3 for Arp, Random Sequencing, Step Sequencing, and Latch into whichever AUV3 instrument.
@Stuntman_mike sounds promising, thanks for pointing out that combo.
So when you have a latched chord playing and you hit a new note (to trigger a new chord in the same key) does it automatically unlatch the previously latched chord notes?
Is there a limit to the number of auv3 synths steppolyarp can send midi to simultaneously?
Yes, the previous chord is immediately unlatched!
You can assign StepPolyArp’s to multiple AUV3 instruments at the same time.
Uploading a video demonstration now.
You can always open another StepPolyArp with a different arpeggio triggered by the same ChordPolyPad.
@Stuntman_mike Sounds really good, very creative thinking!
Wow, thank you!
Thanks for doing that - super helpful. Sounds good too
You’re welcome, thank you! Great apps!
Maybe the next version of iBassist will do more...
Awesome!
Hopefully not. I still appreciate vowels
@Stuntman_mike you may well have found the best route to a software-defined NDLR (as close as is feasible anyway) so looking more at these 2 apps... another question i have is how much overlap would you say there is between Chordpolypad and Steppolyarp? Chordpolypad appears to have its own arpeggiator for example
Good question! Are you referring to the strumming option inside each pad?
Well yeah that kind of thing and any other overlapping capabilities - in short I’m trying to understand what is unique about each one that sets it apart from the other
Great combo indeed. Yes, CPP has a simple "arp" but not comparable to SPA.
Also, when I look at all the outstanding Mozaic code on patchstorage, by combining them and adding a few things, I see most of the NDLR magic within reach. The only limitation might be the Mozaic performance vs. CPU.
Ok thanks @rs2000 might need to grab em both then! Can you comment on how flexible/musical the generative capabilities of SPA are? Or is that deficient hence cue Mozaic?
