Why do we come to AB forum? (Morning reflections before breakfast)

Good morning,
I find myself increasingly watching this forum, several times a day, it is one of the first things I do every morning.
I look forward to (well, maybe this is a little exaggerated) each new release, as if it were just that synth, or that FX that will change the way I play forever.

Now, I ask myself: I am 53 years old, a life, after all, satisfactory, the usual pains and the usual joys that life bestows on us in more or less abundant parts, I have a partner, two teenage children, two cats, one room full of musical instruments; dozens of guitars, basses, keyboards, amplifiers, effects passed between my hands (and my feet), I had a small recording studio, I recorded 4 cds...
In short, the question is: what am I looking so hard on this forum? It is perhaps a sign of a hidden dissatisfaction to come here every day, for several times, a dissatisfaction related to a life based too much on the consumption of all these musical instruments (now they are applications for ipad, once they were much more expensive and bulky) than just consulting this forum feeds, producing a sense of unfinished, an excuse that justifies everything, if that song did not come too well it is because I miss the XX eq, or the YY comp, etc. and not because, simply, that song sucks, with or without all the effects of the world, and that what is missing is a little freshness, a pinch of talent and a good dose of objectivity. And most importantly, fun.

Only I have these feelings?
What is your approach to this and other music forums? do you spend more time here than playing (as has been happening to me lately) or are you able to have a more balanced behavior?
Have a good day everyone.

Personally I'm interested in iOS music so I come here to feed my curiosity, I don't think there is much more to it than that :)

I've been on the forum since 2013, and mostly it's a pretty friendly and relaxed place, and overall the community has a good vibe, which is one of the reasons I've hung around so long.

I expend more than I should but less than I did years ago.
We are passionate people trying to help others and learn something new each day. Music is the excuse.
Step by step we find our inner motivation (trauma or not) and once is released we can take a decision about how to manage that revelation.
For me doing some music and teaching over my own process is part of what I am so I can’t leave it but I can do more than just chat.
That’s why I spread over the net my tutorials and philosophical journey improvements. Just a bread pieces for Grettel just a string inside the Minotaur labyrinth... and make some friends in my path.

If you disable internet for two days and then come back... you will find there is not to much movement (almost in our field, maybe coronavirus will kill us in 24 hours ) so life is short (maybe too short) and being happy and part of group gives some sense to all of us.

In the end AudioBus is a glue between disconnected and that includes apps too

  • We are all geeks, basically.

  • Great post Faland.
I think your problem is you need a dog. Cats are too chilled and dont take much taking care of. A dog would have you spending less time on the forum, getting out and about walking it!
Seriously though, i spend time here because i love music and the types of music people make on here varies so much.
I have been making music on my ipad since December and the posts on this forum have helped me so much.
Not just posts on music either. The off topic section is great.

  • I come here to:
    Listen to what other create
Tips on production, technical issues, and song composition
The serious and not so serious and adequately self-policed comments and sometimes enforced moderation.

    Of course there's the apps
    Glorious noise makers
    Interesting interfaces
    The incomplete yet compelling

I come here otherwise I would spend too much time on other music forums talking about gear I will likely never have, or venting wayyyy too much on twitter.

The company's nice and we all seem to be in the same boat if not on the same page.

  • Music is my therapy and you are all my mentors.

  • Too easy to visit on iPhone iPad etc. So, yes, I come here too often. As a place for info on apps - a 59 year old trumpeter gets a bit stuck sometimes with all this new, accessible gear - it’s a valuable source of advice. Bit bored with the one-man show goings on but like life - it takes all sorts! On the whole a good place to spend time.

  • “We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works.”

I think this quote from the brilliantly astute Douglas Adams sums up why the Audiobus forum is so necessary.

I come here to see if someone’s managed to fix everything once and for all. When that doesn’t appear to have happened, I like to see if there’s anything new that might at least fix something.

I’ve come to terms with my lack of actual musical output and now revel in the incessant tinkering. What’s so great here is being able to share the fruits of all that expended mental energy and so give it value.

    Viva ABF.

  • I guess I visit this site to drain my bank account

Seriously: I visit here to explore new apps, listen to noise, learn techniques and share my own noise. I found a good balance of reading this forum and making noise. However, it truly depends on the day.

  • To see if there is a melodyne type app released or has been added to a daw. Thats all i require now, fixing vocals and decent recordings spoilt by one bad note.
Then i can do it all within the ipad.

  • WHEN DOES DAMN'BRO COME OUT

  • FOMO for music app addicts

Yep. Me too and a musician. Where else would I go?

  • I come here for news and discussion about new apps and old favourites.

  • My name is barabajagal and I am an addict! I need my fix of this forum about every 3 to 5 hours, just in case I’ve missed anything. I don’t always contribute but my beady 👁 is always monitoring!

    I second that emotion

  • To satisfy my stalker tendencies

    haha, not really....

many reasons, but the ones that stand out are

    • to keep up to date with what's being released
    • to help folks out where I can
    • to be educated, and to pass on what I've learned.
    • (sometimes) just for the craic
  • I was wondering this exact same thing. It's like a fear of missing out on quality information. But it's definitely not a guarantee, sometimes even weekly. I have also noticed that if I go back a page or two, I end up seeing something that I actually am interested in. It's weird how quickly things get buried here.

Yeah, it's kind of like a metaphor for life, isn't it? Panta Rei.
Really fast, for some time now.

It’s the best bar in town?

    I think it really is.

  • To learn from people who are more knowledgeable than me.
It is also a very convivial place. On those rare occasions when it is less than convivial, I, much to my regret, have often played a part in the proceedings. For that, I sincerely apologize to all of you.

  • I think the main attraction for me, is I view iOS music as a cutting edge frontier evolving towards a new "ideology" in sound design and music production.

I base this premise on a principle based in statistical probability.

i.e. Professional quality affordable synth and music tools in the hands of many. Are more likely to result in moving the boundaries of music creation forward at a faster pace, than relatively fewer individuals working with more expensive tools on a desktop environment.

Interestingly. Certain anthropologists studying the reasons for early human transition from hunter gather culture, into settlement agrarian cultures. Have theorized that living in a settlement enabled individuals to specialize into differing professions. Specialization resulted in numbers of specialized individuals becoming capable of advancing a technology more quickly, due to greater numbers of individuals having opportunity to focus more time and effort into just one profession.

In a hunter gather society there may be limited specialization. But in general each member of hunter gather society must be something of a "jack of all trades", due to the inherent nature of a nomadic life centered on living off of the land.

That is so spot on 😁

But why did he feel the need to pick on Belgium 🤔

That's why wiki exists. Forums aren't by far the best way to manage useful info. Just look at Megathreads...

    That covers it for me.

  • I come here for a lot. For seeing fellows like @JeffChasteen acquire grace. To watch @McD dazzle us with his non sequitarial dizzle. To listen to @richardyot’s perennial song of the month clubs. To be in awe of guys like @Telefunky and @Samu who never blow emotional but contribute valuable stone cold tech.

For departed sonic warriors like @WillieNegus, who self deleted and is missed for his arch insights and hipster coolness. To make friends like @rs2000 and minstrels like @Daveypoo. To journey to Norway to mess with and admire @kuhl. To collaborate with terrific musicians like @bedheadproducer. And so many others like @espiegel123, @Michael, @waynerowand who are really nice, thoughtful people.

For @MonzoPro and @flo26 for good music. For @Janosax to envy his sax playing and dedication. For @senhorlampada for digging my stuff and starting the hated, everpopular Drambo thread. For @Lady_App_titude cause she puts up with the male bs and still shares her talents. For @onkey who comes and goes but always is positive. For all the newcomers like @Faland who bring excitement and curiosity to the iOS platform. And on and on and on. I could add a lot more, and give six more reasons why I like this place but I’d rather go start an argument on the Coronavirus thread.

If I missed you, I apologize, just pm me and I’ll tell you what I think of you!

  • I’m actually afraid of posting so much that people get a sense of who I am.
