  • @LinearLineman Cheers friend! Hope life is finding you well.

  • @waynerowand, yes, very well indeed. Relocated to Savannah from Istanbul and, amazingly rekindled an ex marriage. It’s fantastic, actually. No burden of having to get to know someone. Just go deeper, like starting at 127 midi and going straight to 128 and beyond with 2.0. Love my new rig and collabs with @Daveypoo. Just need to start recording now. Thanks for hoping.... it worked!

  • @LinearLineman Love you, my man! Always good to admire and be inspired by your works

Regarding the topic's question. Sometimes I just like to spectate. Sometimes I write stuff. But all in all, I always feel like we are a big wonky family, with all the quirks and all the love. And the fights too

That being said, there are times I like to light a firecracker and go away for some time (like with the Drambo topic)

But in the end, what I mean is that all of this feels like home

I come here for a lot. For seeing fellows like @JeffChasteen acquire grace. To watch @McD dazzle us with his non sequitarial dizzle. To listen to @richardyot’s perennial song of the month clubs. To be in awe of guys like @Telefunky and @Samu who never blow emotional but contribute valuable stone cold tech.

For departed sonic warriors like @WillieNegus, who self deleted and is missed for his arch insights and hipster coolness. To make friends like @rs2000 and minstrels like @Daveypoo. To journey to Norway to mess with and admire @kuhl. To collaborate with terrific musicians like @bedheadproducer. And so many others like @espiegel123, @Michael, @waynerowand who are really nice, thoughtful people.

For @MonzoPro and @flo26 for good music. For @Janosax to envy his sax playing and dedication. For @senhorlampada for digging my stuff and starting the hated, everpopular Drambo thread. For @Lady_App_titude cause she puts up with the male bs and still shares her talents. For @onkey who comes and goes but always is positive. For all the newcomers like @Faland who bring excitement and curiosity to the iOS platform. And on and on and on. I could add a lot more, and give six more reasons why I like this place but I’d rather go start an argument on the Coronavirus thread.

If I missed you, I apologize, just pm me and I’ll tell you what I think of you!

    Very nice post.
    Oh and...🙏🙏.

  • i love ios music and talking about it , and getting the deets on the new stuff

plus what else would i be doing besides coming here? lol

  • Sometimes it's better to start with sketches and move from there to a complete track or recording session...

Haha I’m mostly here daily, and mostly several times on those days. I do enjoy the unique things everyone brings to the table. Plus the fact that I’m TV-less and I need to be entertained.

    Thank you - appreciate that!

I think I come here for similar reasons - to cheer myself up with news of a new app release, reort/check for bugs/issues with existing apps, learn new stuff, hear new music, have a moan, get into a debate...etc.

Probably the nicest part though is the social side - even though I've never met anyone here in 'the real world', logging on is a bit like walking into a pub full of people who are into making music, and talking about interesting stuff, and over the years some of the members have come to feel like proper mates. And since I'm currently stuck at home and unable to drive due to a knackered spine, it keeps me sane until I get back out again to a real pub.

It's a good thing - long may it continue.

  • I might go ‘emotional’ sooner or later...

When I got back from my vacation in the Phil I noticed that burglars had paid a visit and both my laptops were gone. One handled all the backups and the other was my main machine...

All in all the value of the hardware is negligible (one laptop is from 2009 the other from 2013) the biggest loss is all the data & memories dating back to 1997 and most stuff/files I had generated over the years. Shit happens but life must go on...

Currently I have limited budget so I’ll have to stick with my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 8.
Who knows if/when I’ll get a new computer, a Mac Mini or something since a computer is needed for Logic Pro X, Renoise and more ‘productive’ stuff.

I’ll scan thru the forums from time to time but posting will be limited and spelling errors are to be expected with touch-screen input...

Oh well, I’ll still try to be helpful even though I may not be able to get all the new apps that drop. (I will be getting Cubasis 3 once the bugs are fixed and it/when it goes on sale).

    Cheers!

Sorry to hear that. I felt a similar feeling when an hard drive with all my youth compositions died, and everything was lost. No backup, since an external HD had a very high price at the times.
Anyway, you’re right, life must go on, and it will... Cheers.

  • @samu That's just crappy news. So sorry. Hope you get your new workflow all sorted soon. And we missed you.

I think the main attraction for me, is I view iOS music as a cutting edge frontier evolving towards a new "ideology" in sound design and music production.

I base this premise on a principle based in statistical probability.

i.e. Professional quality affordable synth and music tools in the hands of many. Are more likely to result in moving the boundaries of music creation forward at a faster pace, than relatively fewer individuals working with more expensive tools on a desktop environment.

Interestingly. Certain anthropologists studying the reasons for early human transition from hunter gather culture, into settlement agrarian cultures. Have theorized that living in a settlement enabled individuals to specialize into differing professions. Specialization resulted in numbers of specialized individuals becoming capable of advancing a technology more quickly, due to greater numbers of individuals having opportunity to focus more time and effort into just one profession.

In a hunter gather society there may be limited specialization. But in general each member of hunter gather society must be something of a "jack of all trades", due to the inherent nature of a nomadic life centered on living off of the land.

Well to take this a bit further ...
I need to hunt and gather less on this forum, and eat more of the berries!

This place is a great hangout. Looking forward to getting to know you all more in the future. Lots of great folk here.

  • @samu That stinks. Hope for better days ahead etc.

crap @Samu, sorry you experienced that.

In answer to the OP, in no particular order...

To learn about music, and life
To connect with an interesting, diverse group of kindred spirits

@kinkujin and @JohnnyGoodyear... how could I have forgotten to mention you both! Old timers memory and so many great people here. Hard to keep track sometimes. You were one of my first friends here, Doug. Hope the mom in law is good. And Johnny me boy, well, Johnny... what can one say about you when you express it so eloquently all by yourself.

@samu, so sorry for what must be an incredible loss. And after what must have been a great vacation. God can be a mean bastard. Always the bait and switch. When will we learn to protect ourselves from the Him,

  • You're too kind @LinearLineman ! My mother-in-law is doing mostly well, thanks for asking! I appreciate being remembered!

  • For the nude pics

I keep coming back as well. ABF really is the definitive place for iOS releases and the chance to talk to developers as well. Threads rarely go off the rails which is great. I am quite fond of some of the personas here but I am also not going to overstate the camaraderie as sometimes you just get to thinking that someone is pretty cool when all of a sudden they start getting all moany and aggy or start spouting rightwing nonsense and go and get themselves banned...

It is still my favourite online watering hole though. I think it is a bit of a numbers game as well. Just enough to become familiar and keep things respectful, but with newcomers stepping in each week to keep things fresh.

Thank you @Michael for sticking with this initiative! It's quite an achievement.

  • It’s all you guys, @gusgranite - I just set up a server 😄

If you're mentioned in this list... you should consider getting a restraining order.
Sorry, I couldn't resist a little "non sequitarial dizzle". The hyper precise Ol' Lineman will provide feedback on performance.

"Why don't you just use english?" the knave asked the professor.

"It's a simple exercise in maintaining my vocabulary. It took me years to collect these words and they need periodic sunlight to avoid becoming irrelevant. They must be shared...some will wish them to go somewhere and just go screaming into that good night. Some will rush to the Goog' and seek meanings and uses and spelling and maybe a picture. Either way, everyone's life is enhanced. It's powerful and empowering to confront the other in person. Then you'll know how to recognize the hated other and avoid associations."

    "OK. DON'T TELL ME."
