iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 11 Pro
Recently upgraded from an iPhone SE 64GB to an iPhone 7 Plus 128Gb.
I got the iPhone 7 Plus as a tested pre-owned phone with 90 day warranty from a big box chain called Best Buy.
Went for the 7 plus for portrait mode, 2 cameras and 3Gb ram.
I’ve only had this 7 plus for 3 weeks and was just getting used to the unwieldy size...
When I one an iPhone 11 Pro 256Gb!
I’m not looking forward to redoing/switching all the authentication apps again but I’m sure I’ll find a way to deal with it.
Now, I’m wondering if I should just stick with the 7 plus and sell the new 11 pro since it’s worth so much more.
Anyone here have both the 7 plus and the 11 Pro? Or, just upgraded? Is the 11 Pro a noticeable upgrade after the new wears off? As a photographer I’m intrigued buy the 3 cameras in the 11 pro, especially the ultra wide.
I need to decide fairly quick which to keep and which to sell because I’d like to get it done and take off on the motorcycle again soon as the weather here in Austin continues to improve.

In your shoes I would definitely keep the 11 Pro, for the camera alone, but it's great phone all around. What a lucky win!
Agreed, you’re gonna get more mileage out of the 11. It didn’t cost anything so it’s not like there’s a loss. You will probably (or could) hold on to it longer than you would the 7.
The 11 pro camera Is streets ahead of the 7. I upgraded from a 7 to an 11 pro. The only downside is the slight increase in size and weight (but you'll notice the opposite, going from a plus). Otherwise: nicer screen, better OS experience as IOS is now designed around faceid and the buttonless gestures, better battery life, smoother.
Everything about the 11 Pro is so much better than the 7 Plus (I upgraded last September). It's smaller, a gazillion times more powerful, battery lasts for ages, the cameras are amazing - this is a complete no-brainer. Sell the 7 Plus.

Based on benchmarks, it should be able to run twice as fast as the 7. 11 chip is testing at 1300 while the 7 is 700 (I rounded).
A baseline score is set by an i3-8100 which is given a score of a 1000. So the 11 is more powerful than a budget computer, the base model Mac Mini has the i3-8100, I think.
I have an iPhone 7 Plus. It’s still a beast. I’ve never had to worry about performance. The 11 Pro sounds amazing.
The battery in the 11 is made of pure magic.
I'm still setting up the 11 pro. It took a lot longer to get everything set up on 7 Plus, including changing the apple watch pairing. The authy stuff from one phone to another was a huge pain. I'd just got everything set up on the 7 Plus when I won the Pro. Now I'm doing it all over again, but not a bad nuisance to have though.
I can tell the battery is more robust already. Had just started getting used to the large plus size, but it was also pretty awkward to use when you're out and about. the regular Pro size makes more sense for my use.
I'm loving the super wide lens, but I'm kinda missing that 3D touch.
Pretty sure I'm keeping the 11 Pro over the 7 Plus, but so far I haven't noticed those faster specs in regular use.
I've read the 11 Pro is capable of 2-way wireless charging. Is that true or was it only a rumor?
Also, should the little wireless charging disk that comes with the apple watch ALSO charge the iPhone 11 pro? It doesn't charge with it, but I don't know if it's because it has to be a larger wireless pad? Or, if there's something I have to activate in the 11 Pro?
camera + batteries + if you play music with... a no brainer. the 11 pro is exquisite
You're right, starting over to set the iPhone 11 is really a boring thing.
But... I'm here to help you: send it to me, I'll take care of it.
Doesn't the iPhone 7 have that audio chip issue?
(Legitimately curious)
I have an 11Pro and the phone is insanely fast, it destroys my gen 1 iPad Pro, to the point I would rather write music on it, although I do have an 11 Pro Max
It did. I was having those sorts of problems when my iPhone spontaneously died. The battery got so hot that it burned my hand and it never turned on again. Apple replaced it, only because I had AppleCare. I just learned about the audio problem this morning. I wish I had known before.
My replacement does not have the same problems.
Interesting. What audio chip issue?
@distraub 11pro and pro max have the same benchmark... both amazing... and yes, you can play music with this phone, no problem 😎
Also, as long as you back up your 7 to iCloud before you get rid of it, transferring everything to the Pro should be a piece of cake. Jus restore the Pro from your iCloud back up and there's no need to reauthorize anything.
I’d be tempted to keep the seven as a controller with the 3d touch, use it lots on mine alongside the iPad...
never use icloud, just don't trust my data in the clouds but I'm intrigued do they actually give you that much cloud space that you could back up your whole phone?
You can always pay for more...
I see... also I guess I'm a little old fashion but you guys trust your music in the clouds?
I would always back up to a pc/Mac before a phone swap.
for sure me too on the back ups but the potential access to your music from others ...
Looks like the little wireless charger disk for the apple watch doesn't work with the wireless 11 Pro charging. So, never mind on that.
so you got the middle model 11 skip?
Yes, I'd already upgraded to a used 7 Plus (which I actually like) but I ended up winning a photo contest/drawing and the prize was an iPhone 11 Pro 256GB.
I decided to keep the new 11 Pro and will sell the 7 Plus once I confirm everything is transferred and working properly.
I mentioned the issues with authentication because I just transferred the Authenticator, Civic, Authy, Enjin Wallet, and Coinbase apps from my iPhone SE to the iPhone 7 plus... and transferring the authentication from one device to another was a huge pain. Did not go smoothly at all. And yes, I backed up and restored from backup.
It's all good and transferred now, but I'm going to have to do it all over again going from the iPhone 7 plus to the new iPhone 11 Pro. Hoping it goes smoother this time.
I thought I read news that Apple was going to allow phone to phone transfer for backups and what not.
I did that with the iPhone 7 plus to 11 Pro last night. Worked well. I didn't know you could do that. Just had them sitting next to each other and it transferred everything except apps very well. They all had to be redownloaded, but all my app data was transferred.
And, I just finished doing all the authentication stuff I mentioned. That all went surprisingly smooth this time too. Part of it was I activated multi-devices, etc. when I was recently going through all the hoops to transfer from SE to iPhone 7 Plus. Enabling the face detection for all the bank and authenticators made it all pretty much a snap compared to what I just went through going from the SE to the iPhone 7 plus.
I think it's all set up and good to go now. Yay!!!
I didn't have to scream obscenities at all this time!
so you just set them side by side, is it possible to do it via cable and would that prob be faster or not a Real advantage?
Don't know. Didn't take all that long next to each other wirelessly. It's all been pretty painless this time.
cool, thanks.
