That would be great.
hmmmmm well then i need to try to dig deeper into this! i didn’t see anything immediately but it could be there
well look at that @iamspoon each instrument does have a midi channel 1-13 assigned to it! totally over looked it
thank ya
i don’t think ableton link is there but maybe it’ll come

Thanks for this!
Wow this is such an awesome gift! Welcome back!
I’m sure you’re gonna get tons of amazing feedback on how to get this amazing app to become the top IOS midi looper.
I love how easy it is to get going with the built in sounds and drum kits! Thank you!
I’d like to see if theres a possibility to add slide over view when used with AUM at least in iPad. I love that it’s midi so it doesn’t fill my limited space too quickly.
Thanks for all your awesome work!
agreed and def could see that midi looper being #1 , is way too way easy to get going i love it! i don’t think i’ve ever found a midi looper on ios before , you can step record into atom but can’t record a rest so it isn’t really my thing, but this.. just press record and jam!! with ableton link and a couple other minor things this could rise to the top!!!
Excellent, this! Thanks very much indeed for this generous action.
Having issues staring it up in AUM on iphone latest IOS. Will keep checking.
I think it was that i had Bluetooth going. I don’t think Firo does Bluetooth even in AUM . Would be nice in future update?
After some tests it does work great in AudioBus 3 even with Bluetooth enabled. So the issue is not Firo but AUM. Maybe AUM might need an update or something.
Glad to hear you got it working as intended. The other variable to consider is Firo4 is being kept alive in the background; if Audiobus is connected, Firo4 should do the right thing. But if you're connecting purely via Inter-App Audio, you may want to enable "IAA / MIDI Input" in the Advanced Settings section (on the help overlay) to ensure it stays running as apps are initially connecting.
It's looking like the next release of Firo4 will support down to iOS 12.0. Everything seems to be working as intended so far when testing it, which is a good sign. I'll probably wait a couple days so I can roll in any other suggestions/feedback at the same time.
Super.

FWIW the old version seems to work fine on iPad Air 1 (iOS 12.latest).
IAA Sync would be a great addition and/or Ableton Link support... I imagine this will be a common suggestion/feedback though!
Thanks @iamspoon. It's cool to see the old app still up and running - a blast from the past!
Firo4 does have quite a few updates/improvements on the backend (and some UI tuning as well) over the previous app, so hopefully you can also give it a try when iOS 12 is supported.
No problem, ye olde app has never left my iPad
Look forward to trying new version!
Be prepared for an avalanche of requests for an AUV3 version of the looper section I reckon! (Gotta say that would be mega...)
Really enjoying this awesome midi looper on my iPhone 6s plus. Fits screen perfectly!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Haven’t tried exporting midi yet. I can continue to build the song ideas in Xequence 2👍🏼🙏😌☝️
If you're looking for suggestions, my first thought was of Ableton Link. Would this be something that would be easier for you to implement now that you've brought the code up to speed, or is there a another reason why it might be problematic?
BTW— you should think of breaking off your novel keyboard into a AU midi plug. Could be very useful. I suppose you could even work it to recognize midi input for key highlighting.
Exporting midi works flawlessly into Cubasis 3.
how do you record in?
Very generous, thanks, downloading now!
Nice man! My iPhone is 12.0, so looking forward to trying it on there
@eross To record a session (upto 90 minutes at a time), just hit the RECORD button near the top right of the screen. More info about the session recorder here: https://makefastworkshop.com/firo4/guidebook/#ch8
A second way of recording (most likely NOT what you're looking for, but I'll include it nonetheless for completeness) is used for capturing short audio samples to use as the base waveform of custom instruments. Just press and hold on one of the instrument icons (for example, the guitar) and a little dialog will show up where you can record/select a sample to use in place of the default. As a quick test, sing an "A" note (there's a blue button to help you find the pitch if needed) and hold the record button down for a few seconds. More info about Audio Sample Overrides here: https://makefastworkshop.com/firo4/guidebook/#ch7d
This is a really really cool app, and I'm surprised you're giving it free (for now). Gonna leave a review. Also, do you have a Patreon?
@Samflash3 Thanks for checking it out. I don't have a Patreon, but super kind of you to ask.
@Tones4Christ I'm looking into ways to get Firo4 to support bluetooth output. It seems pretty straight-forward on the backend, but most bluetooth devices add quite a bit of delay/latency. Even the fastest, low-latency AirPods Pro still add a 144msec delay. For just playing around, that's probably fine, but if you want to really align a beat, that's still pretty rough (as an example, at 120bpm that delay is over 1/4 of a beat).
I'll try to get bluetooth output into the next release, but not sure it'll jive with the workflow when creating new loops.
Unfortunately, BlueTooth audio (but not MIDI) has latency baked into the technology except for devices where the the native audio buffer uses the same format as the BlueTooth audio device's which is rare. This is because Bluetooth audio makes use of lossy compression (quite a few codec and bit-rate combinations exist). The higher fidelity the audio the higher the bitrate, and that requires buffers large enough to buffer the processor intensive task of compressing the audio and then decompressing on the other side.
@espiegel123 @Tones4Christ I'm testing bluetooth output, and while some things can get nudged around to feel in sync, the overall delay from bluetooth is just proving to be a poor user experience.
Since many users (especially those who do less intense audio work) may start playing Firo with their AirPods or other bluetooth headphones and think the app is lagging instead of realizing it's the bluetooth connection itself, I'm going to hold off adding it to the next release.
Seems wise to me.
Thank you for your generosity.
I loved Fiddlewax
and still do!
@adamkumpf
Liking this App a lot, thank you, MIDI loops great and being able to record audio samples is really useful.
Can you implement start/stop sync with Audiobus please? I saved a session along with some audio loops in Loopy, but when I come back in there’s no way to sync Firo’s loops other than by ear.
One problem to report, in standalone it won’t work with my Audio interface, when I plug it in sound continues to come out of the iPad or the App crashes. I’m using a Line 6 Sonic port VX, recently resuscitated by the iOS 13.4 beta, on an iPad Pro 10.5. The sonic port is working fine with everything else, so I’m assuming it’s a Firo issue.
Really fun app, thanks again for giving it to us for free. Consider the option of paid in-app updates for Ableton link or AUv3. I'd like to pay them to support you.
