Chordial - a chord generator for Mozaic based on the Qu-Bit Electronix Chord module

edited February 2020 in Creations

Hey! Late last year I made a Max For Live MIDI Effect device based on the Chord module from Qu-Bit Electronix. I decided to port that over to Mozaic as a learning exercise. I have to say that I really like working in Mozaic! Not only that, but I actually prefer this Mozaic version to what I made with Max.

  • Oh wow, this is beautiful. Excellent use of the x/y pad!

  • This looks great. I’m gonna give it a go in a few mins. Thanks.

  • Chord Drone feature is amazing

  • damn now this is sweet!!

  • Holy cannoli!! That is a piece of art! Nice one!!

  • Wow ! This is so awesome...instant beautiful sequences !!....is there way to add more notes and also transpose on the fly?

  • L-o-v-e-l-y.. The XY pad is simple but so useful.. that drone mode is great.. toggling on/off voices of the chord = handy.. excellent choice of voicings (closed, drop 2, drop 3 + spread)..
    Right now I’ve got:
    -only the 5th + 7th voices ON
    -Major chords
-playing C - Bb - Ab root notes
    -using D1 - Mobys Pad
-and simply spinning counter clockwise big circles on the XY
    = floating pulsing dream state

@unicity Thank you for this fun creative patch.. 🙂

You transpose by playing different root note notes with a keyboard.

  • @unicity : hey, thanks for this! Just took it for a trial run with Yonac Magellan 2 and Alteza - instant magic for me. Soundcloud link on the Yonac Magellan thread if interested.

    AWESOME

  • This is magnificent!!! Wow, thanks for sharing! Wow! Wonderful video ;)

  • Fantastic 😊👍

Great script! So useful with apps like Digikeys which is a bit of a pain to program.

  • Thank you so much for the compliments! I'm thrilled that people are finding this fun/useful.

Full credit goes to Qu-Bit Electronix for any enjoyment you're getting out of this script - I modelled this as closely as possible on the parameters and possibilities explored in their Chord module (V1). I don't have a Chord module (or a euro system at all) but I've always found it fascinating. The message is theirs...I'm just a messenger who made a few embellishments. :)

  • thanks for the script ! looks really good

  • Very cool, thank you .

  • This is very cool and I hesitate to say anything but I’m getting confused because when I have Chordial set to play a Major 7th chord (1 3 5 7) and hit a C note on the keys I’m not hearing a C major 7th chord. Similar situation with minor 7 chords (1 b3 5 b7). The chord roots and chord qualities don’t seem to match what I think I’m playing vs what I’m hearing.

Don’t get me wrong it sounds great but it’s hard for me to use as all my music theory gets tossed out the window.

Is there a rhyme or reason to this or is the idea just poke around looking for happy accidents?

    It’s a great script!!

Hey no worries, I appreciate anyone pointing out something that might be wrong. This is my first Mozaic script and I'm not precious about it. If something's wrong, let's try and fix it!

The default setting when you first instaniate Mozaic should be playing a C Major 7th. Is it wrong right off the hop, or were you changing parameters and then finding it's not playing a C Major 7th when you return back to the default settings? Is one of the intervals off? All of them?

  • The first time I loaded Chordial in Mozaic in AUM, I did not check the chord voicing at the start so I just created a new project and it does indeed initially play a C major 7 when playing the C note. During the first session I noticed it being wrong after I had played around with changing voicings and inversions (everything, except channels) and going back to what I thought was default so it may not be returning to default settings. It was definitely off the first session. I’ll play around some more and see if I can reproduce it. Thanks!

  • Awesome, thank you for clarifying that and thanks again for bringing it up!

When I get a chance later I'll wail away on the parameters and see if I can reproduce that as well. It's certainly something I tested beforehand but I also wouldn't be surprised if I missed something silly.

  • This is cool! Of course now I find myself wondering if I can have 9th and 13th chords, and of course b5 or my favorite mb9 chords :)

More seriously - if you don't have diminished chords in there, that might be one to add. I use vii diminished chord as a substitute for the V chord all the time.

  • Super video, looks like a great script.
    Thanks for sharing.

Adding chords extended beyond a 7th gets a bit weird (especially for toggles and triggers since there's only 4 pads in this view). It's possible of course, but complicated.

Adding additional shapes on the other hand, is dead simple and I can put those in for you tonight if I have time. :)

These shapes are based on my personal preference, but we're all different of course. The module I based this on features dom and half-dim but I passed on those in favor of the sus shapes.

  • I noticed this isn’t saving state for me in AUM, would be nice to include this if this is easy to add :)

Oh crap! That was the last thing I added but it looks like I didn't save it! I'm sorry about that.

Easy to add (again :( ) and I'll update that tonight for sure and add a comment here when it's up. Thank you so much for pointing that out.

And probably not worth it for the 2 people who'd probably use it :)

Oh you don't have dom7 in (e.g. C7, or something). Probably should have that as well. But Sus chords are definitely a cool addition.

One way you could add extra chords is by dropping the 5. So a 9th is 1, 3, 7 and 9. While a 13th would be 1,3, 7, 13 (really the 6th). I mean if you decided it was worth it, which it may not be.

Anyway - like I said this is great. Thanks for making it!

    Brill, thanks :)

  • Adding my voice to the praise chorus. Running drone mode and a short-ish strum has been fruitful in my limited time with this. Major kudos.

  • Wow, that's lovely.
    Very impressive.
