This is properly lovely, thank you.
This is the best Mozaic script I have seen so far
drone + strum = a complete song lol . seriously can just drop that on something with eventide blackhole and you got a drone track
Hi! I've updated Chordial to version 1.0.1. This is just a quick fix to address the state saving issue (the "issue" being that I'm a big dummy and forgot to save my work when I added the state saving stuff in previously). Thanks again for bringing that to my attention.
That is a very valid point and I think I will give that a go some time this week! Thanks for the suggestions!
Thanks for the update, just checking..are you sure the 1.01 is uploaded to Patchstorage?
It says 1.01 in the patchstorage notes but the patch is still v1 when I download and check the code info.
Hmm I think so? I just pulled it down on my Macbook and looked at the code and it's at 1.0.1 (I can see the if Unassigned branch that handles state saving).
Ohhh I think I see what may have happened...the state saving code was there, but I didn't update the text in the Description window that appears when you first instantiate Chordial and THAT still said 1.0. I've fixed that now as well. Thanks!
@unicity would be wonderfull if you can add an option to your great script:
Instead of generating chords from on note, just keep all the note mute/inversions/divisi/ engine for chord inputs, so if you put a chord yo could play with the XY pad, mute notes inside the chord, strum and send each note to different midi channels. would be possible somthing like that? maybe in a different but realted script??
Thanks!!
That's a fantastic idea and off the top of my head I don't think it would be very difficult to implement, though I would likely branch that off as a separate script/device.
I could certainly see something like:
Is that what you meant?
Edit....oooh and since the quality control wouldn't really apply in this use case, I could replace that with something that selects scales for the transformed output. I like it...
I would absolutely use a script with this workflow. It's perhaps more along the lines of how I've been using Chordial, i.e. set a chord and only change it sporadically if ever.
Great!!
I was thinking in realtime chord input, so you can use your hands without leaving the keys... One inputting chords (could be maintained by sustain) an the other hand playing with the XY in Chordial...
But this workflow would be complementary, I think will work great for holding loooong chords.
But in a more traditional musical context changing chords often would be great skip 1,2,3 and manipulate the realtime input
I like it. Realtime chord input manipulation will definitely be trickier, but I won't know if it's impossible or not until I try.
I named this device Chordial because it's a portmanteau of "chord" and "dial". Keeping that in mind, this new device that can record chord input should probably be called "Rechordial".
I love clever people like you who can make things less academically minded people like me can use and enjoy, seriously , thanks very much to both you and all the other script writers who have produced so many excellent things for Mozaic!
@unicity Discovered this today, love it, thanks a lot. The strum effect is super nice, very good stuff!
Update came out on patch storage 3 hours ago. Cheers!
Thank you all for the very kind words! I should point out that there was no change to the script in the most recent update, I just updated the description on Patchstorage to include a direct link to a great how-to video that someone had recently made for Chordial. I didn't realize it would treat that as an update to the whole project!
I do plan on adding a few more qualities and branching off a different version that allows you to define the chord shape via key input, but I've been taking a little break from coding stuff to focus on music stuff over the past week and a bit. I won't make any further changes to the Patchstorage page until there is an updated version of the script!
I think if you just add comments rather than editing the page, it doesn’t trigger an update notice. Most people probably don’t notice the comments though...
Yep comments won't trigger the update, and the only reason I modified the main text was so the Youtube link showed up as a proper video link instead of a plain URL. It was already added by the author in the comments but the person did such a great job I thought it would be helpful for anyone else who might want to use the script, so I added it to the main description area. I feel like Patchstorage should only be sending out a notice or treating any edits as an update if the actual file in question is modified but maybe that's just me. Either way, lesson learned. Sorry about the mixup.
Oh ok. I saw the update but when I downloaded I realized the file name was same as last time so.... That explains that. Thanks.
@unicity Hello! There seems to be a problem that when you play a note in toggle mode, you can’t retrigger that note (Well, you can press but there will be no sound) until you have first pressed another note. Is there a way round this?
Edit : actually, I noticed now that this is related to the drone setting, not toggle. My mistake! I still think it would be good if you could retrigger the same note even while in drone setting though.
@Gavinski - thanks for taking the time to point that out!
I just want to make sure I follow you - are you saying that you'd like to be able to re-trigger a currently droning chord with a new note-on event? I do remember encountering that while working on it and I thought that maybe it wouldn't be an issue, but I can see now how that may have been a bit presumptuous/lazy of me.
If that's what you're after, I should be able to add that into the next update without much fuss.
Yes, that’s exactly what I’d like, because it is definitely a useful effect to bring on a fresh attack of the note at any given time, even if it is droning. Look forward to the update! Thanks again.
