Me too. Very nice app. I usually use Bs-16i but like the simplicity of this one.
Is it correct that I can’t import Soundfonts from other sources? I have a bunch of them in my google drive but they’ll only import if I move them first into my iCloud Drive, and ‘open in Soundfonts’ in Google drive doesn’t work.
Thanks Tim. I did add a URL opener to the app for SF2 files, but it received limited testing on my part. I will try out a scenario with a file on a Google drive and see what is happening.
Brad
@TimRussell I just tried importing an SF2 file from Google Drive and it appears to have worked correctly when I pick "Open in" option from the "•••" menu to the right of the file name.
Please ping me at [email protected] if this does not work for you.
Ok will try again, thanks
Guys, just drop fonts in here local storage

and location
bingo
Haven't read through the thread... looks useful, is there at least an envelope to shape the sound?
No, not at the moment. However, using AUM or GarageBand or another AU host allows you to build an audio processing chain from the output. For instance, here is SoundFonts in AUM with a low-pass filter attenuating the output.
best thing - you recall presets on multiple soundfonts in 1 klick no need to load hassle bs16i
Fluidsynth soundfont - you gotta try this one ! 315k in size... (some patches are fubar in this font beware)

any plans on expose a few more stuff in here? would be killer
@noob
It is on my to-do list. That list you see is straight from Apple's own AVAudioUnitSampler, or rather the AUv3 wrapper it provides. IIRC from playing around in Apple's AU Lab, those "Performance" controls are not connected to anything. What would be really cool is if they could be connected to SF2 properties such as a configured LFO, but Apple does not provide access to those bits of their implementation. I intend to look into AudioKit's own SF2 implementation.
oh nice thanks for a great app sofar![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Anybody else lose all their imported SoundFonts from this most recent update? Every SF2 I imported is gone and I’m only left with default presets.... Blues.
@BradHowes Really enjoying your app since the AUv3 update. I’m hoping and wondering if you had time, could you implement a few file management features? Things like creating a folder, moving patches, and deleting patches. Sometimes several patches in a new bank I download don’t work, or just produce a click sound, I’d love to just delete those. Thanks for your time.
Hi, I’m the developer. I’m terribly sorry this happened to you. I will look into what could be the issue. I am not aware of any breaking change that would cause something like that to happen. I’ll follow up when I know more.
Regards,
Brad
Ok. That was fast. Lol. Thanks for getting back to me @BradHowes just so you know I am on an iPad 6 (2018) 128gb and I have updated to the most recent iOS..... Well I thought I was up to date on updates, but I just checked To be sure and apparently 13.7 is now out, so maybe it was something to do with the version of iOS.
The only extra one I had installed was Nice-Keys-Ultimate-V2.3 (1150mb) and it disappeared when looking for it inside of SoundFonts BUT when I checked iPad storage > SoundFonts > documents + data, the file size was over 1.3GB.. so it seems as if the sf2 file was somehow being hidden.. I couldn’t find a SoundFonts folder anywhere on my iPad yet I’ve seen screenshots that indeed did have a folder.. 🤷♂️
I did contact Brad about it and haven’t heard back yet.. I almost thought it was user error but now that you’ve noticed the same behaviour, I believe there may be a bug.. I’d say contact him as well..
Same for me. I notice that Soundfonts was recently updated to 2.8.5, and I suspect this new version is the culprit... I've just updated to iPadOS 13.7, but doubt that's the problem.
Just for everyone's info, the soundfont files you install are in Soundfonts' private storage. The app publishes a folder in the Files app but it doesn't access that folder internally.
@BradHowes Is there anything we can do to help debug this?
Thanks
@uncledave @Poppadocrock @royor
Again, apologies for what happened. I am still not clear why this happened with this update (2.8.5). There is 2.9.0 which is in review that adds the ability to export all added SF2 files. These files will appear in the folder that @uncledave mentioned. You will also be able to access them and remove them from the Finder when connected to a Mac. I added this to try and help investigate the problem that @royor mentioned.
His case is particularly perplexing because when tried to add the SF2 Nice-Keys-Ultimate-V2.3 the app rejected it because it was not of the right size (this could be due to where I pulled it from). It did point to a lack of feedback from the app when that happened, but it did not cause the app to keep the file around or make a copy of it. That only takes place if the app can successfully process the SF2 file.
Brad
I just tried the iPad Storage trick of removing the app but keeping the data. Then re-installed the app, but no dice. The data is still listed in Storage, but Soundfonts ignores it. So, we really need an updated app.
Edit: Added a new, smallish, sf2, and it is visible in the Soundfonts menu, but the older files are still hidden.
This is another concern I had about SF AU, but I was just putting up with it. I also noticed it was taking up a lot of space so I removed a gig or so of SF2 but the app stayed the same size.
@Poppadocrock
I will look more into this. A delete of an SF2 entry should remove it from the device. The new "Export" option will reveal if this is indeed the case. Of course, in my testing everything is working just fine.![:smiley: :smiley:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smiley.png)
Cool. Thanks for the help.
@uncledave @Poppadocrock @royor
SoundFonts 2.9.1 is now released. Try using the Export feature and then see what is there via Finder or Files app. I also added additional logic to check for orphaned files.
Regards,
Brad
Oof. So, the soundfonts I had previously added were moved to the Soundfonts folder, instead of simply being restored. I began adding them one-by-one, using the (+) in Soundfonts. Then tried to delete one. Now the app just crashes, either stand-alone or AUv3. I see the splash screen, then poof! Looks like I need to save the files, then do a full delete of the app to get back to square one.
Same issue here. Additionally I was browsing files app folder for SoundFonts and touched an sf2 file and it opened SoundFonts and imported a second copy. Deleted that from SoundFonts GUI via slide left and delete. Now SoundFonts behaves as described above. I also noted duplicates when I first used the import option in settings. In the files app view many of these sf2 names have large hash values appended. Was this intentional?
Love this app btw in spite of these growing pains 😇
It could just be my imagination, but it seems like I'm getting reverb in the Yamaha-C5-Salamander-v1.0 sf2 imported from soundfonts4u, with no way to switch it off.
I was doing an A/B comparison with the same file in BS-16i, where I turned the reverb all the way off. I much prefer the sound that way. It seemed like in Soundfonts the reverb was there, although I don't see any reverb settings. Is it possible that the Apple AVAudioUnitSampler AU is applying reverb if it's in the sf2 settings?
I definitely prefer to use my own reverbs, if at all.
Maybe I'm just hearing things tho.
[edit: I think it is just my ears. I edited the sound font to remove reverb settings and it still sounded the same. I'll just chalk the difference up to different rendering engines and/or onset of senility on my part.)
After delete and full install, I'm good. Some of the soundfonts I re-added mysteriously appeared in the Soundfonts folder, so I deleted them. Bad idea, since then I couldn't access them from Soundfonts; apparently it was using the exported copy. Delete and re-add appears to fix this. So I'm back. Still love the app, despite confusion.
Additional note: when you delete files from On My iPad, they are moved to Recently Deleted. You have to delete them from there to fully erase them. And it seems like they're still charged to the previous owner, so they're counted under it in iPad Storage, which had ballooned during this exercise.
@BradHowes
I also did a delete and reinstall. I then used AudioShare to open in an sf2 to SoundFonts. This then appeared in SoundFonts app but not in the On my iPad SoundFonts folder. Closed the app and restarted and still not in On my iPad SoundFonts folder which did not even exist at this point.
I then used the SoundFonts GUI to add sf2 files from my AudioShare folder and selected all the one I previously had in SoundFonts. Those where all imported with these long hash values appended to the original file name. At that point the files app showed a SoundFonts folder which contained all these files with said hash appended. But the first sf2 I opened via Open In SoundFonts from the AudioShare app is not there in On My IPad SoundFonts folder. Is that now orphaned in some internal directory?
